It’s weird that we have “capitalism” and there are people, who clearly have desire for a drm-free content. Hell, we even have a gog, where you can buy drm free games. Yet the market does not want to provide legal option to obtain films/shows that are not locked into the service.
And even with the gog there are still many games that are impossible to get drm-free in a “good” way. Not to mention emulation where things get kinda grey, depending on the system you are emulating
My game changer was going to bflix.gg and downloading the android app from there (OnStream).
Every episode of anything can be streamed! If I get problems I can download an episode str8 on my phone. I use xcast to then chromecast it directly on my tv.
It will never be a safe space as long as spez is around
period. Centralized systems like Reddit are inherently beholden to the views of the people who own the central hub. Even if the people at Reddit now were “cool”, eventually a piece of shit would end up in a position of power and compromise the site. As we have seen time and time again, both recently and throughout history, we cannot allow our systems to be contingent on the assumed goodwill of the people who run it. Said differently, we need to assume that bastards will take control at some point in the future, and intentionally design our systems to be robust in the face of disturbances caused by bad actors.
Does the Fediverse have a similar feature, where communities/magazines can be private and only allow users to view/subscribe to them with mod approval?
I know this is possible with instances, but that seems impractical since the account would be defederated from the entire Fediverse to maintain privacy.
You're forgetting the most important rule of the internet, enacted in 2020 and largely unspoken, but widely followed:
No controversial thought. Everything must abide by the hivemind. Sure, the hivemind might extol the virtues of free thought and expression, but actions speak louder than words.
Thanks to the massive worldwide propaganda campaign of 2020, very few corners of the internet are safe from virtue-signaling, wannabe-woke control freaks who can't stand the thought of others disagreeing with their force-fed worldviews, because they mistakenly believe that such ideas are "dangerous." 🙄
Yes, I know, opposing viewpoints are something small little minds like your own can't possibly tolerate. Now run back to your safe space where everyone agrees with you and gives you constant validation!
Sure is looking that way already. I had such high hopes for Lemmy being a more open community....but that's already quickly turning out to not be the case.
