matthieu_xyz, to asklemmy in Are we using Lemmy correctly?
@matthieu_xyz@piaille.fr avatar

@_finger_
We can have both generic instances and instances around a particular topic.

We already have a few lemmy dedicated to a particular community like latte.isnot.coffee and startrek.website

milkytoast, to asklemmy in I really want to like Lemmy
@milkytoast@beehaw.org avatar

i mean so far, I'm enjoying it. sure, the community isn't as large, but that's mostly a good thing. on reddit, if i made a post, it would be like a 25% chance to get hundreds of comments, and a 75% chance to get none. here, I've gotten a few, high quality responses on every question post I've made. i do miss the "auto hide read posts" feature, but maybe that'll get added some day

adj16,

You can hide read posts here! In the web app settings for your profile:

adriator,

Is there a way to stop the endless loading of posts on the website? Because every time I try to click a post, it moves down because a new post loaded, and this happens every ten seconds, constantly.

CosmicSploogeDrizzle,
@CosmicSploogeDrizzle@lemmy.world avatar

It's a bug that wasnt an issue when the community was smaller. Last I heard they will replace it with a refresh icon that pops up at the top when new posts are available.

Quartz,

Oh thank God is a bug, I really thought it was a feature of the site.

b34k,

It’s amazing what kinda bugs can be exposed in your system when your user base expands by orders of magnitude overnight

Perdendosi, to dadsplain in What's the Tooth Fairy's going rate these days?
@Perdendosi@lemmy.world avatar

It depends on how many small bills the tooth fairy happens to have on him at the relevant night. I'm only a little ashamed in admitting that, one day when only $20s were in the wallet, I may have snuck into the LO's room, grabbed a couple of singles from her piggy bank, and then had the tooth fairy give her those (supplementing later, of course).

notacat, to asklemmy in Which instance do you prefer, and why?

Why are all the answers here from FMHY? It was like 20th on the list in terms of popularity when I joined. I chose it because it had fewer restrictions - users can create their own communities and, most importantly, downvote (the chart I looked at said some didn’t have downvotes??). Also I assume pirates know how to run a server.

Fubarberry,
@Fubarberry@lemmy.fmhy.ml avatar

Yeah same, I’m from FMHY as well and I’m really confused as to why everyone is saying FMHY.

I picked it because I skipped over the first couple large communities looking for smaller ones that allowed everything. Didn’t really care about the piracy aspect at all.

notacat,

I’m starting to feel we should delete this whole thread and replace it with how much FMHY sucks and is the worst instance ever the admins are literal trash pandas please don’t come here. I like it small.

faiora, to dadsplain in Me: Literally anything. Almost 2 year old daughter:

My three year old doesn’t bother with “no” most of the time, he just screams.

Or sometimes I get “NO I DO IT.”

howdy,
@howdy@thesimplecorner.org avatar

Man, the independent streak lasts huh? My daughter wants to do everything herself already! Also, that sounds cute to me but at the same time I totally know for you as the parent dealing with it...

JustAnAverageDude, to dadsplain in Me: Literally anything. Almost 2 year old daughter:

I’m at this stage with my daughter as well. She says a very clear and confident “no” to everything, even the things she wants.

“Want to go for a walk?” “No” (proceeds to find her shoes)

I am starting to respond to her positive actions with “but you said no. Are you changing your mind?” - if her answer is still no I hold her to it.

howdy,
@howdy@thesimplecorner.org avatar

Yep.. Exactly where I am. She is so darn cute but it can be frustrating at times for her and me. She just can't express herself fully yet... even though her mind is.

OttoVonNoob, to dadsplain in Me: Literally anything. Almost 2 year old daughter:

Mines the same age, doing the same thing xD. She's looking for some control. I usually give her the illusion of control by giving her two options, don't want to get dressed? "Would you like to wear your yellow dress or your red dress today?" Same with food, works for me.

howdy,
@howdy@thesimplecorner.org avatar

I’m gonna try that tomorrow. Especially with food. She has been a mess trying to get her to eat lately. She was a late walker, didn’t start walking till 19 months and almost like a light switch once she started walking. Eating wasn’t in the priority anymore. It’s going wherever and doing whatever!

Yes, 100% its like “I have freedom now” I can walk! I can sorta express myself!

@girlfreddy@lemmy.ca avatar

Next word is "why", where reasoning with a toddler will drive you to drink every night after they are asleep. lol

Moonrise2473,

Luckily in my language "why" is a 3 syllable word that's harder to say

howdy,
@howdy@thesimplecorner.org avatar

Its just me and you beer fridge old buddy.

Sprite_tm,

As they say, generally a repeated 'why' is not out of pure interest, it's a bit for attention. After a few of those, feel free to give nonsense answers.

Rhs519, to dadsplain in What's the Tooth Fairy's going rate these days?

We do something a bit different. Rather than cash, we get a small toy and wrap it up. (Still in the $2-$5 range).

Still slip it under the pillow.

It’s fun to watch them unwrap it. 3 kids deep, and no one has asked why our tooth fairy does it different.

pampoon, to dadsplain in Me: Literally anything. Almost 2 year old daughter:
@pampoon@lemmy.world avatar

Same. My daughter is a week shy of 18 months, and has fully progressed past the stage of saying YES! to everything excitedly. Now it’s noooo for everything. Makes putting her in the car seat in the crowded grocery store parking lot a nice treat.

howdy,
@howdy@thesimplecorner.org avatar

Mine is 21 months. She is almost all day just going going going! She grabs my shirt to get me to stand up and go wherever she wants to go. Her new thing is she likes hanging out in her room but only if mom or dad also are in there with her. It’s a lot of fun right now but a lot.

Heraldique, to dadsplain in What's the Tooth Fairy's going rate these days?

When I was younger it was 2$ so by today standards according to inflation statistic it would be around 3$

grahamj,

No but covid supply chain issues so $80

FracturedChaos, to dadsplain in What's the Tooth Fairy's going rate these days?

I did $5 for the first one ever, however, weeks later she had a meltdown and demanded that the tooth fairy return the tooth. She even tried to put the $5 back under her pillow🤣.
