It was my first distro I liked it at the time, but after they killed of the KDE Edition I tried out Manjaro and the rolling release with up to date software just fits my use case much better.

Break contract. Fuck ‘em

brezelradar,

Better yet: Fuck’em without breaking the contract.

paris,

And then go to court against Morgan Stanley…

I believe they’ve been trying to get out of the contract though which is good, but it’s still easier said than done.

PowerCrazy,

Just claim sovereign immunity, bing boom, so simple. (I have no idea what the consequences of that owuld be, or what the legal outcome would look like.)

I’ve used Linux for over two decades (red hat to Gentoo to Ubuntu to arch) and I must say it’ll be a tough sell to get me back to an RPM or a debian based distro solely due to how god awfully slow the package managers (dpkg and rpm) are.

Since Docker came along and brought with it the ride of Alpine and APK, it made me realize that system upgrades on a modern processor, fast internet, and an SSD should take seconds, not minutes.

mindbleach, to privacy in AI Generated CSAM Is Out of Control

    There is no such thing.

God dammit, the entire point of calling it CSAM is to distinguish photographic evidence of child rape from made-up images that make people feel icky.

If you want them treated the same, legally - go nuts. Have that argument. But stop treating the two as the same thing, and fucking up clear discussion of the worst thing on the internet.

You can’t generate assault. It is impossible to abuse children who do not exist.

    m0darn,

Did nobody in this comment section read the video at all?

The only case mentioned by this video is a case where highschool students distributed (counterfeit) sexually explicit images of their classmates which had been generated by an AI model.

I don’t know if it meets the definition of CSAM because the events depicted in the images are fictional, but the subjects are real.

These children do exist, some have doubtlessly been traumatized by this. This crime has victims.

I have used some distros by now and I do love mint. But a few years back every major upgrade of mint lead to bugs and me reinstalling my system. So far the only Distro i tried that just keeps working is MX Linux on my old laptop.

Because I want to get rid of windows I installed Nobara. I love to play games. I works pretty good, but since only one guy ist maintaining it, it should be not considered a daily driver.

I am still not happy because it dont want to switch between distros for gaming and working.

Nobara is just a Fedora remix. I’ve used another remix a bunch of years ago and converting that to a regular Fedora installation after its maintainer left was just removing that addon repo and letting dnf handle the rest. I think I only needed to switch to Fedora’s branding packages.

For a home user with recent hardware in my opinion the system to beat is openSUSE Tumbleweed. It is a stable and rolling distribution, that is, it has the best of both worlds.

it’s under an hour long so I can watch more than one like this during my lunch break. It’s the long form content over an hour long that I have to avoid because it’s usually just vods which severely bore me.

    mercury,

Mints wifi was a pain in the ass first time I used it, try some distro with kde as stock, or install it yourself. Might be more usable

Yeh and apparently Lemmy folks down votes legit bad experiences with gnu/Linux. If you think the user is the problem here, this community seriously have a problem if thet want gnu/Linux to be mainstream.

    mercury,

People here really do need to realize how little the average user is willing to tinker and troubleshoot. Not to mention the software availability. Saying “it’s soooo easy to switch over” is just blatantly false, even now. The vast, vast majority of gamers play games with incompatible anti-cheat. Those people will likely not stop playing the games they want to because of moral values or Foss whatever’s. Same with software. Sure, krita or gimp are easy as hell to pick up, but if you’ve lived your whole life with Photoshop, and have no problem other than the usual adobe bullshit, you’re not gonna switch to an is with zero possibility of supporting that app any time soon.

I can’t offer a solution to fix linux’s issues, but there needs to be a community willing to answer the most basic questions honestly.

I prefer people posting the original source, and I’ll just let LibRedirect (on desktop) or LibreTube (on mobile) switch the link to my preferred Piped instance. I don’t want to use random instances.

I feel like most people who feel strongly against YouTube will have it set up similarly to where you automatically get redirected when clicking a link anyways. You can always offer up a Piped link in the text box or the comments as an alternative.

So in your opinion you can’t make yokes about piracy nowerdays? How did you get to that conclusion?

I honestly don’t even think this is that edgy of a sketch …

Vaguely conservative people love to claim that “you can’t joke about anything nowadays!!” but everytime I ask for an example it’s either completely banal stuff like this sketch, or it’s just straight up bigotry with the thinnest veneer of “a joke”.

Like, sorry that calling a trans woman a guy or saying weird shit about Muslims isn’t funny in 2023, but good god get some fucking actual material.

    Swarfega,

    dangblingus, (edited )

Perhaps some overzealous reference to the fact that Graham Linehan is a massive wanker, butthurt transphobe. The way you “can’t really make rape/racist/sexist/transphobic jokes anymore”. He doesn’t really make TV anymore. This skit on the other hand, as well as most of Father Ted and The IT Crowd, is perfectly PG.

    @1984@lemmy.today avatar

It’s a fantastic show still, very funny. :)

    Hundun,

I used to love this show until that one transphobic episode. After watching that I looked up the main show writer and learned that he is huge piece. Such disappointment.

    Flax_vert,

Thought the joke was more that the character was transphobic and it was an iran pun

    NuXCOM_90Percent,

Death of the author: The gag is that we think Douglas is shockingly progressive when his date tells him she “used to be a man” and he doesn’t care and it becomes the most healthy relationship he has in the entire series (and this includes him repeatedly trying to rape Jen and at least assaulting Roy and Moss). But then we remembering he is deviance personified and probably just doesn’t care because he has a fun girl he can stick it in. But instead, he misheard her and it becomes the “ha ha, you fucked a dude” joke of the 80s/90s. Which is pretty transphobic on its own and was in the tail end of when that was “acceptable”

Then it somehow becomes a drawn out bare knuckle brawl. Which I don’t personally think is transphobic in and of itself, but it is incredibly triggering and plays on the very real fear of trans people getting assaulted if someone finds out they transitioned. So probably not transphobic, but incredibly assholish.

Then, death to the author, we kind of know that Graham Linehan is a complete dipshit who is openly anti-trans and it is hard to give any form of “benefit of the doubt”. And apparently Richard Ayoade capes for him constantly. And it is the show that skyrocketed Noel Fielding (the guy we try to forget was best friends with russel brandt and associated with most of his “debauchery” back when it was considered “funny”). So… the show is a mess.

I still think the show as a whole is a masterpiece, but there are definitely some gags that just don’t play well. But… I also think it is a perfect example of “just pirate it so that nobody gets any money”. Similar to stuff like rurouni kenshin.

    Flax_vert,

Tbf a lot of that show’s had… Less than favourable views. Graham Linehan, being endorsed by Richard Ayoade, Chris O’Dowd, Noel Fielding.

    Flax_vert,

I like that term also, “death of the author”

    Hundun, (edited )

Humor can be read in various ways, the author’s public statements and policy paints a cringey picture, unfortunately. I am not a trans person myself, so the tastefulness of this humor is hard for me to judge. Still, this particular episode has left a bad taste, even if the show as a whole cracks me up. Doesn’t help that I am growing into a huge Matt Berry fan

    Flax_vert,

True. I think this is a case of knowing how the author thinks sets the tone, unfortunately.

    floofloof, (edited )

That one, and the writer, have not aged well. Old shows often have jokes that just leave a bad taste today, and Graham Linehan’s unpleasant politics add to this. But it seems he went off the deep end after he had finished his best work, and aside from this episode the rest remains funny and watchable.

    1984, (edited )
    @1984@lemmy.today avatar

Wait until you realize 99% of people are transphobes and just don’t tell you because it’s not allowed.

That happens when you ban opinions. :)
