And fuck. I really miss plex. I’ve had Netflix and Hulu forever as family won’t let me cancel. Decided to sign up to Paramount + for some Trek. Twice in lower decks it didn’t save my watched episodes. Doesn’t mark episode as watched if you exit during the credits. And multiple playback issues....
Out of the box it can play audio in the background, and now that extensions are available you can block ads as well. You don’t really need constantly updating 3rd party clients or questionable firewalls anymore if you just want usable youtube on a phone.
Things that make me angry about my current smartphone Samsung Galaxy S21Ultra on a Verizon plan is the mandatory software updates in which they install WITHOUT MY PERMISSION stupid apps like Netflix and addictive gambling games and stacking block games and Candy crush. God knows what else they install without my permission. I...

I’ve been running Plex on a Pi 3 and now Pi 4 along with multiple other containers with no real problems. I don’t transcode obviously but have no issues with performance.
I also installed Jellyfin last week to run side by side but ended up uninstalling as even when idle the memory usage went through the roof.
Actually, the OS runs from SD and for mass storage I have a single USB drive. The container’s data is stored on the USB drive along with the docker-compose.yml file. So if I lose the SD it’s just a case of reloading the OS, installing docker and docker-compose. Configuring the disk to mount on boot and then running docker-compose to get back up and running.
Docker data is sent via rsync to a Pi Zero should the USB drive fail. Plex/Jellyfin content I don’t care too much about as they can be “obtained” again 😉
From the first boot it’s only a few lines to get docker installed ready for running containers. Containers are awesome!
I know this is because Google indexes your mail but search is far superior on Gmail to Proton. I’ve downloaded the indexes from Proton on my home PC but search is still not good for searching email content.
The internet never used to be like this. It used to be full of shitty GIFs and under construction signs. Also don’t forget to sign the guest book and be impressed with the high hit counter.
I’ve run pihole for years. It works really well. The only problem I’ve seen is when you actually need a tracking URL to work. For example clicking a link in your emails to download a ticket for a concert. You just need to be mindful that when the browser fails to open a link it’s because of the PiHole. There’s no nice screen telling you. You just need to pop it into the whitelist to allow it although on a phone I just used to go to mobile data temporarily, click the link and then go back on WiFi.
I recently switched to using NextDNS, as it means all my DNS queries are encrypted and I still get filtering when I’m away from home. I also have three kids to manage so it allows me to set timers on their devices to block certain traffic. Good for blocking adult sites too.
PC died. Trying the legal options.
