starlinguk, in During travel, what can I prepare beforehand as meal, which can be eaten without access to fire or microwave?
@starlinguk@kbin.social avatar

A caponata sandwich with a shed load of cheese should keep you going for a while. Or if you don't want to make caponata, grill some veg instead.

nigelinux,

Caponata is new to me, and cheese would be great!

citizenserious, in What is the least SEO-fucked search engine?

Where can I find soemthing about startpage changing to bing?

Im28xwa, in What movie did you rewatch most often?

Maybe Thor Ragnarok

kairo79, in What's a big tech product that you actually find useful?
@kairo79@lemmy.ml avatar

I have Google smart speakers in every room except the children’s rooms. the fact that the music can be played synchronously in every room alone is worth my data to me.

fritz, in Is it worth to read Star Wars novels?

I very highly recommend the republic commando series by Karen Traviss. It is so well written and gives a lot of context to clones in general and commandos. Honestly some of my favorite books ever. The game is fantastic too of course.

Revolutionary_Pi, in What movie did you rewatch most often?

Definitely the Avatar movie, I mean the blue ones not TLA. I watched it when it came out, watched it several times with my family and friends. Lastly I watched it at IMAX, was a fantastic experience. Sadly second movie did not live up to my expectations.

Parsnip8904, in During travel, what can I prepare beforehand as meal, which can be eaten without access to fire or microwave?
@Parsnip8904@beehaw.org avatar

You can get prepackaged meals that you can eat after submerging the packet in hot water for a few minutes. Hot water is easily available in most place, even more so if you carry a flask.

Protein bars are filling and quite nice to eat. Dried fruits like apricots or dates are also a nice calorie rich option. Bread and jam/pb are the usual travel staples. Milk powder and cornflakes/cereal is also an option, but not one of my favourites.

You can also carry out forms of bread like pretzels, bagels or focaccia which will last for a few days or even more.

Don’t forget that experiencing local food is part of any travel experience :) you’re not going to travel to Iceland to just eat in the future. So it might be a good idea to explore local supermarkets for some local fruits, bread, snacks and so on. Hopefully some Icelandic person will chime in with more suggestions.

nigelinux,

I love bread! Though my wife, not so much. We do plan to go to supermarket, thanks for suggestions!

Hope you have a good trip :) I know the struggle! I’m a vegetarian and often it’s very hard for me to find dishes I can eat in many countries. I have shifted towards renting Airbnbs with kitchen and making rice or pasta with local veggies for most of my meals for this reason.

ao4571, in What movie did you rewatch most often?

There are few of them for me, but maybe Warrior (2011) is the favourite go to movie for me. If I’m overwhelmed by anything, it helps me reset myself and put things in perspective and get me in the mindset to fight back and stay strong.

Catasaur, in In which game did you spend the most hours?
@Catasaur@lemmy.catasaur.xyz avatar

Looking at 600+ hours in Rimworld, and probably even more in Dwarf Fortress but 200+ since the Steam release, it wasn’t tracked before.

pixel, in What are your favorite "ugly" games?
@pixel@beehaw.org avatar

I remembered thinking teleglitch was absolutely fascinating a while back. Not exactly a pretty game but it’s not ugly either, the chromatic aberration effects on collisions is real pretty imo, even if the underlying art is rather spartan

wiewiorek2137, in In which game did you spend the most hours?

Stellaris almost 600 hours and Cities Skylines, around 400 h. Damn!

RedC, in What movie did you rewatch most often?

Drive Thru. It’s a B rate slasher horror flick. Highly entertaining and always a recommendation.

Kissaki, (edited ) in What series did you rewatch most often?

Mushoku Tensei, Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid, Interview With Monster Girls, Usagi Drop, Overlord

gdoubleambo, in Is it worth to read Star Wars novels?
@gdoubleambo@feddit.de avatar

I really like the complete High Republic series. Adult novels, young adult novels and even the middle-grade novels. Those were the first star wars books I ever read and I loved the complete setting. Also got me into comics

I also read „Catalyst: A rogue one novel“ because I love r1 and that book makes the story even better imho.

200cc, in What gaming console / platform do you prefer?

They are more or less the same piece of hardware with different software in it. There are no reasons a console wouldn't do the same things that a PC does other than the devs put limits on what you can do with these. Consoles are crap made for stealing kids money

rikudou,
@rikudou@lemmings.world avatar

That wasn’t the question, though.

RogueTyre,

But it does seem to have better hardware for the price which they usually get back from games so unless u buy a lot of games it’s probably a cheaper option. That said I am strictly a pc gamer playing indie titles so take it with a grain of salt.

200cc,

Don't fall for the trap, it's not cheaper when you consider that you can do no upgrade and no repair

bug,

It’s also not cheaper when you consider the cost and limited choice of console games compared to the almost limitless choice of things to play on a PC, many of which are free or can often be heavily discounted. Also I hear your can use your PC for other things too!
