Not saying this is the case here because I don't know, but on the other hand of that abusers are really good at manipulating their way back in to relationships, so unfortunately that's also an option.
I guess at a certain point in life you just say fuck it and go back to what you know.
Or you've been abused for so long as well as isolated from all your friends and family, that you're easily manipulated back in to a situation you('ve been made to) feel you can never escape.
I prefer to be aware of when I’m being advertised to
Always. the answer is always. Because even when you're not actively consuming any media, the advertisements (including more subtle things like product placements and viral marketing like this) have already been absorbed and are doing their thing.
I’m going from Hong Kong to Iceland next month. I’ve read that everything there, including food, are quite expensive. So my wife and I have been researching on how to prepare meal or snack that we can eat during the day instead of going to restaurant....
Obviously things like soup, or ramen noodles and other hot liquid meals don’t taste good at all cold.
You don't have to have them cold - just get a flask!
There are many good affordable flasks on the market today, OP might even have one already, but they might need more than one.
In the flask you can not only put things like soup or even pasta with sauce, but also just boiled water which you can later pour in to a pot noodle and have a fresh one of those! Or a hot cup of something (tea, coffee, cocoa), made with the water in the flask, or in their own flask! The options are endless.
If they have access to a microwave/hob in the morning they could even pre cook some hot dogs or other protein (meat or plant based) that would fit in, dump it in along with a preheated tin of sweetcorn or peas and maybe even tinned potatoes, some seasoning (a tab of butter/margarine like hotels serve would do wonders), then keep it warm in there for the rest of the day.
Another alternative if they really want hot food would be one of those thermal bags, but in my experience they don't do as good a job at keeping things hot (warm maybe, but nothing more).
Starting to feel crushed by the weight of the world, riddled with guilt and disappointment in myself over my choices. Nothing I can do about the past though....
Anything beyond that (like actual therapy to deal with the traumas of existing) is honestly too much for me to take on right now, so it's little breaks of calm in the chaos that somehow keep me going. For now.
The monsters aren't the ones being created, the monsters are the ones creating those circumstances to begin with.
I know you didn't mean anything by it, but that shift in focus is really important to point out, because those same people rely on you and me to see the poor people who's lives they destroyed as the problem, instead of whose who really are.
None of that changes the fact that it is the system that creates that kind of behaviour by encouraging and rewarding selfishness, greed, hate, and doing whatever it takes to "succeed".
I'm not denying that there are horrible people out there (I've been victim to a few personally), or that they shouldn't be held responsible for individual actions if they harm others (they should), but in almost all cases you can't blame them for turning out that way (again, not excusing any harm they go on to cause to others) when you look at the circumstances they need to exist in. Circumstances designed by a handful of people reaping unfathomable benefits.
So I'd much sooner point my finger at those who are actually to blame, instead of at those who are the fucked up products of their system, because one of those not only creates infinitely more damage than the other, but also it's only that same group that have the power to do anything to stop it.

Someone spent their time, money, and effort to write this in the sky (lemmy.world)
I love it
What movie did you rewatch most often?
For me, it’s either the Matrix or Pulp Fiction. I have seen both a lot of times but certainly not more often than say a dozen times.
During travel, what can I prepare beforehand as meal, which can be eaten without access to fire or microwave?

How do you cheer yourself up after a rough day? Or a rough year?

given how little one vote matter, it seems to me that stripping felons of their right to vote is both petty and counterproductive if the point was to reform them into civic minded individuals ?
Also, seems kind of scary that this implies a future where so many people are in prison that their vote could actually tip the balance ?
