TheOctonaut,

Why is Business Insider trying to write archaeology articles? This is awful.

TheOctonaut,

Why? That’s her comic right there? What does that achieve other than bringing her ‘other’ business here?

TheOctonaut,

Why?

TheOctonaut,

Yeah that’s a good thing with some artists I suppose.

TheOctonaut,

This is a link aggregation website. It doesn’t matter who posts the content. You’re thinking of OnlyFans.

Which in this case is appropriate.

TheOctonaut,

It really isn’t. Self promotion is pretty terrible for a link aggregation site. You used to be limited in the ratio of what you could post between yours and other content. Then The Other Site decided it was social media. Now you want here to be social media too. No thanks 👍

TheOctonaut,

No, it isn’t. Because, crucially, you’re not supposed to care who the other people are. By your definition if ‘social media’, my Geocities guest book was social media.

TheOctonaut,

I have no idea how this is controversial. Why is posting your own memes/comics worse than posting someone else’s content?

You can see exactly why in this very comment chain, people talking about organising followers to boost things etc

The point of a link aggregator is not to act as veiled marketing for social media accounts or cosplays. Posting your own shit is 9 times out of 10 just promotional crap. Like this. Lemmy doesn’t need content that exists primarily to drive traffic elsewhere, or shit content for the sake of shit content.

TheOctonaut,

They’re already deleting comments and organising “boosts”. Genuinely bizarre.

TheOctonaut,

This is true only in the vaguest sense.

  1. “Europe” didn’t invent the term soccer. A specific group of people in England did.
  2. Those people were upper class posh boys, the same ones who call rugby “rugger”. They are not the people who support football today or made football what it is around the world.
  3. If you can’t tell, it’s an obvious nickname for something. The equivalent of one nation deciding to exclusively call basketball “shootin’ hoops”.
TheOctonaut,

I don’t know where you’re from, but comrade is not an insult either.

Please talk to actual people instead of communicating via memes.

TheOctonaut,

This just reminds me I never went through with my 2010s business idea of opening a restaurant called “With an egg on top”.

TheOctonaut,

Isn’t that the point of the meme? I finally felt seen.

Get figuratively fucked and literally never fucked, descriptivists

TheOctonaut,

I stay out too late! I headbang like an ape! Yeah that’s what people say, mmhmm

What inconsequential or surprisingly good thing can I get from Aliexpress?

Im curious as I usually use the site very occasionally to get certain electronic parts or order from PCBway like I just picked up some cheap but infinitely better than stock gps antennas for my LoRa T beams and im about to get a set of also still cheap but much better than stock 915mhz antennas but i kinda wanna throw some other...

I’ve never agreed with someone on this and yet been certain they are wearing polished coal rings before

TheOctonaut,

…are you suggesting that for a smaller number, they achieved immortality?

TheOctonaut,

39 years old… Can confirm that time is perceptibly accelerating

TheOctonaut,

Is there a language where I can alias return as “Ultimately ,”

TheOctonaut,

Is this like that “the 90s were 10 years ago” effect? The viking age was 1,000 years ago. More, really.

500 years ago the world had been circumnavigated

TheOctonaut,

Please attend a very basic civics class

What should be used for anonymous usernames?

More often than not, the best way to hide is to simply blend in with the crowds – this also encompasses one’s choice for a username. It is relatively simple to make a single throwaway account – just come up with a username, and off you go – however, if one makes throwaway accounts often, the task of thinking of a unique,...

TheOctonaut,

Can I ask, in the friendliest way possible and purely for my curiosity so I really don’t expect an answer, how you balance “higher power” with “doesn’t use it”? The way you’ve described it could be interrupted as anything from an otherwise traditional Christian who doesn’t believe in directly answered prayers, to believing that this is some sort of simulation we will wake up from.

TheOctonaut,

WebP is definitely the VHS in this scenario - editing and creating images is NOT the most common use of image files. Not by a long shot. It’s for distribution of images, which is vastly more common a usage.

And there is nothing technically deficient about WebP for editing either - it’s just a new image format that came to popularity in the last 18 months. I’m old enough to remember JPEG being new, and it had the same things said about it. If you’re doing anything serious, both JPEG and WebP are the distribution format of your master image that you keep for yourself in a bitmap format.
