inverimus, in Taking 11 years of data contribution with me! Train your AI with this, Reddit! (Power Delete Suite)

Reddit has backups, so for AI training purposes I'm sure they can restore all the posts of everyone mass editing/deleting this month.

Kill_joy,
@Kill_joy@kbin.social avatar

Yeah it's like driving by a house and sticking my middle finger out the car window at them and then never coming back.

It was only a moment, it will never be seen by anyone it was intended for, but it felt good for me.

Zaneak, (edited )

Its people not used to thinking about backups on databases etc or that they can't be used. They can probably stand up a database instance preannoncement with an api infront of it for ai training. Hell probably even offer it as extra monetary option. We will sell you what preannouncement looks like, then you can use the access you pay us for currently to compare how people react against a negative action by a company.

*edit - it does impact people that would use like web scrapers vs api and also possibly google search results, so it probably does do something, just not necessarily the impact everyone might have when doing the mass deletes.

For actual? Infinity still works, I guess they shut off at different times?

But yeah RIP legend

Pandoras_Can_Opener,

infinity plans to switch to a subscription model. might be they stay working.

genoxidedev1,
@genoxidedev1@kbin.social avatar

I'm not sure who they're doing it for, I'm pretty sure at least 99% of the people that used it in the first place are now done with Reddit or only use old.reddit.com (until that socket disappears too)

Lemmy: 1,660,853 users
Kbin: 52,449 users

2023-07-01 01:29:00 CEST

For future reference

Edit: Yes I know the Lemmy userbase is inflated but you can still kind of calculate the newcomers unless they start deleting all the bot accounts

Furthermore, since this has garnered a little bit of attention, for the kbin stats visit this site and for the Lemmy stats visit this site

1chemistdown, in Boost confirms switching to being a fediverse app after the Reddit app shutdown.
@1chemistdown@kbin.social avatar

I really hope @christianselig is paying attention to all this. It sounds like his iPad work would directly translate over here and a bit of work would create a fedi app.

hairyscotsman,

For sure, if Apollo existed for fedi sites, it would be amazing. I didn't realise how much I hate using reddit website since using Apollo and without the app, the site is dead in the water for me.

spoilerguy,

Don't know if you use Lemmy, but wefwef for Lemmy is such a nice webapp and feels almost just like Apollo. Features are being added on the daily but it's become by far the best experience for me for browsing Lemmy instances right now.

Mostly_Harmless, in Apollo seems to have been shut down
@Mostly_Harmless@kbin.social avatar

It stopped about 2200 US eastern time for me...at least that's when I noticed it. I uninstalled and then deleted my Reddit account. I'm all in on the fediverse!

Rabbithole, in Yet another app shutting down. Boost closing on the 1st

He confirmed the Lemmy app.

It's in the playstore where you can pre-register for it. Looks great.

JungleGeorge,
@JungleGeorge@kbin.social avatar

Really hope there'll also eventually be /kbin support

aeternum,

The problem is that there's no API yet. Once the API happens, I'm sure there'll be lots of apps to choose from

siuvhne, in Christian Selig’s Goodbye to Apollo
@siuvhne@kbin.social avatar

I clicked the link and thought, I'll read this and be done. RIF is also kaput. I've decided to keep it installed because all my Reddit links default to RIF and this way I won't accidentally give Reddit any traffic.

Mostly_Harmless, in Well, it happened a bit earlier than I expected but I'm officially here now. Hello friends 👋
@Mostly_Harmless@kbin.social avatar

Most of us are new here. It's like the great Digg migration years back!

Learning a new platform is fun, and I can't wait to see this take off as Reddit becomes a shell of it's former self.

Mostly_Harmless, in It's over...
@Mostly_Harmless@kbin.social avatar

It's just beginning!

athelard, in RIP RIF

The silver lining is that we discovered the fediverse

Teglement,

I just wish I actually...Liked it?

TechnoBabble,

It's clunky and kinda empty right now, but hopefully it'll get better.

Definitely needs a bunch of content that isn't "Reddit sucks."

Usernameblankface,

Time to go write posts and upload pictures that have nothing to do with Reddit.

Niello, (edited ) in Did Karma really matter that much in Reddit?

There was a discussion on karma some days ago, if anyone want a read. https://lemmy.world/post/590386

TL;DR consensus is mostly karma is the source of quite a number of problems on Reddit and many people are comfortable with not having them back. There are positives, but the system has to be reworked for it to really work to any capacity that doesn't negatively affect the platform.

Personally, I don't look at karma. I barely even checked other people's user page and I only went on my own page to look for my previous comments.

djmarcone, in Apollo was always reddit

No no rif was reddit now rif is dead.

Jonny, in RIP RIF
@Jonny@kbin.social avatar

Well that 's it for me. I blocked Reddit on my PC with UBlock Origin, and the only time I would look at Reddit would be through RIF. I can only hope for an app so good for kbin and the Fediverse.

abff08f4813c, in Reddit suddenly caresTM for the blind

The folks of rblind aren't fooled. That's why they set up their own lemmy instance already and are recommending migrating off the subreddit.
