Its people not used to thinking about backups on databases etc or that they can't be used. They can probably stand up a database instance preannoncement with an api infront of it for ai training. Hell probably even offer it as extra monetary option. We will sell you what preannouncement looks like, then you can use the access you pay us for currently to compare how people react against a negative action by a company.
*edit - it does impact people that would use like web scrapers vs api and also possibly google search results, so it probably does do something, just not necessarily the impact everyone might have when doing the mass deletes.
I'm not sure who they're doing it for, I'm pretty sure at least 99% of the people that used it in the first place are now done with Reddit or only use old.reddit.com (until that socket disappears too)
I really hope @christianselig is paying attention to all this. It sounds like his iPad work would directly translate over here and a bit of work would create a fedi app.
For sure, if Apollo existed for fedi sites, it would be amazing. I didn't realise how much I hate using reddit website since using Apollo and without the app, the site is dead in the water for me.
Don't know if you use Lemmy, but wefwef for Lemmy is such a nice webapp and feels almost just like Apollo. Features are being added on the daily but it's become by far the best experience for me for browsing Lemmy instances right now.
It stopped about 2200 US eastern time for me...at least that's when I noticed it. I uninstalled and then deleted my Reddit account. I'm all in on the fediverse!
I clicked the link and thought, I'll read this and be done. RIF is also kaput. I've decided to keep it installed because all my Reddit links default to RIF and this way I won't accidentally give Reddit any traffic.
TL;DR consensus is mostly karma is the source of quite a number of problems on Reddit and many people are comfortable with not having them back. There are positives, but the system has to be reworked for it to really work to any capacity that doesn't negatively affect the platform.
Personally, I don't look at karma. I barely even checked other people's user page and I only went on my own page to look for my previous comments.
Well that 's it for me. I blocked Reddit on my PC with UBlock Origin, and the only time I would look at Reddit would be through RIF. I can only hope for an app so good for kbin and the Fediverse.
