Semmelstulle, in People in /r/redditalternatives are talking about a "Reddit 2.0" What website would fill that role?
@Semmelstulle@kbin.social avatar

Well the Wikipedia dude is about to pull that up but we also still have kbin.

gooddaytodayhere, in What's your opinion on cross-posting?

Some of the forums I’m subscribed to are using bots and honestly I don’t like it at all and I’m far less likely to engage

Yeh I have noticed the same. With no interaction it makes it look like a ghost town

Mr_Buscemi, in now that i don't have a reddit account, i guess i can tell you guys about secret communities

I can state one secret community that’s been inactive since 2015.

TheTrumanPlan

Every 6 or so months a random redditor was picked and the whole subreddit would set up scenarios to involve the Truman.

One example was when they made a whole subreddit for a band one of them liked. Once they found out the Truman joined, the subreddit was immediately privated.

They then began messing with him by

1: Pretending the sub got sponsored by a Korean ship company

2: make the Truman think there was an song from the band that they all loved but didn’t exist.

3: Fake an AMA with a band member from the band and then have them mention the fake song

4: Have that Korean shipping company post that the AMA was fake and state they are not sponsoring the subreddit anymore.

5: Not noticing that they were slowly fading in Jim Carrey’s face into the sidebar image for weeks and then telling the subreddit he was getting a tattoo of it. They all freaked out when they got told he got the tattoo I think lol.

That was all just from the first Truman I think. There were 7 more after that.

Here are the full megathreads from back then over the first two people picked. imgur.com/a/oHmC1NW

anteaters, in The Reddit moderators who coordinate many celebrity AMAs will no longer do so

Good to see that there are some mods who are not completely addicted to that little bit of power spez allowed them.

Dark3stWhite, in When all posts in my home feed for Lemmy have over 1000 upvotes, it'll surpass all the other Reddit alternatives I've seen, and I'll know for sure that the Fediverse is the way to go.
@Dark3stWhite@lemmy.world avatar

Personally, I care less about the number of upvotes and more about have a steady stream of new content.

I have been sorting by new now because if not I see the same posts on both Active and Hot. We will get there though!

busybunny, in 3rd party app for Reddit, Boost, is still functioning well after July 1st
@busybunny@kbin.social avatar

RedReader was still working, but then again I don't think the app developer planned on shutting it down on July 1st.

Macabre,

Yeah, RedReader is one of the apps that had an accessibility exemption due to it being so good with its accessibility features. The official Reddit app doesn't have those features, so Reddit knew they would get sued if they didn't allow some 3rd party apps to fill in that need.

HouseMouse, in For those in the know about privacy laws and the such. What is a proper response to reddit's claim that they cannot remove all the information associated to an account without first the user removing all of their posts?

I think it’s untested whether this is legal or not; it’s in a legal grey zone. Try to find an online script to help you delete all your posts. Alternatively turn the question to your national agency which handles GDPR compliance.

CaptainPatent,

With the API shutting down, I believe there is no longer an automated way to delete all content. I would focus more attention on the latter suggestion.

abff08f4813c,

With the API shutting down, I believe there is no longer an automated way to delete all content.

Actually, the API hasn't shut down. It's just you get a bill if you go over 100 api calls per minute, but existing scripts like github shreddit can be easily modified to include a builtin delay to prevent that from happening. Alternatively you can pay shreddit.com $15 to do this for you and not worry about it (they use their own API key i figure though I don't know the specifics, but I imagine they have a setup that prevents them from going over the limit as well).

I rushed in a bit of a panic to get all of my stuff deleted, not even waiting for the response to my data retrieval request (see https://kbin.social/m/RedditMigration/t/65260/PSA-Here-s-exactly-what-to-do-if-you-hit-the ) before I realized this.

Alexmitter, in Just created m/TwitterMigration

I still don’t understand why anyone would still be using Twitter today

Lots of content I want to see is on Twitter and the alternatives those content creators use are like Instagram or even worse. If I have to choose between Twitter and Instagram, then Twitter is the obvious choice, still.

Every once in a while I check who is now on Mastodon, and I am always happy when I see a few more users I like. But then I look and many people rather look for Project 92 or Bluesky from Jack instead of just joining Mastodon.

kurgal,

Is there a reason why this is the case? Could it be because it’s a publicity thing where it’s created by tech billionaires that’s why they prefer them over anyone else?

Alexmitter,
@Alexmitter@kbin.social avatar

I think people just have more trust in platforms made by public figures, as dumb as that sounds.

Eggyhead, in I'm developing an iOS and Android app for Lemmy called Bean and I'm looking for testers

I've heard kbin users refer to themselves as "beans", but now there's a fediverse app called "bean" for lemmy. Lol.

Lemmy is so damn good as is wefwef that I just don’t miss Reddit

de-integro-initium, in Relay for Reddit is continuing as a subscription service

I agree with you, since Apollo died last night, I have been exclusively on kbin and lemmyw. I don’t know if it is the novelty or just my wish for reddit to die, I don’t miss Reddit at all. Maybe it is like the feeling of a first day after a break up, while you’re still trying reconnect with yourself again.I will probably keep doing some Google search with Reddit for quick finds from time to time, until Fediverse is matured enough and index by search engine. For now I’m happy to be with your guys. Long life to Fediverse.
