McBinary, in Corporate greed is destroying Reddit, so I'm leaving
@McBinary@kbin.social avatar

I went to reddit a little while ago to check on the status of my favored reddit app, and past the top 15 or so posts is the same shit I saw days ago. New content there has seriously dropped off.

melroy, in Does anyone regret deleting their Reddit account?
@melroy@kbin.melroy.org avatar

Not even a second. I'm glad to first got rid of Facebook several years ago. Then Twitter. And recently also Reddit. No regrets.

Ps. I also don't have Instagram, TikTok or any of those non-sense.

No regerts...not even one letter.

Seriously, I deleted my posts and comments by my cake day (June 26th), and deleted my account on June 29th. Good riddance.

Not even a little bit and I was on Reddit since like 2011

Thteven, in Does anyone regret deleting their Reddit account?

Nope, good riddance.

Mculbertson, in Does anyone regret deleting their Reddit account?

No.

tentphone, in Does anyone regret deleting their Reddit account?

Zero regrets. So far the content has been better and people have been nicer, the experience on Lemmy app I use is very similar to the 3rd party Reddit app I was using, and the official Reddit app is so much worse than both of them that I am not at all tempted to use it.

elscallr,
@elscallr@kbin.social avatar

Ngl I miss all the niche communities from reddit that actually had content. Like there's nothing for The West Wing or The Wire on the lemmybin. Last hype shit for Starfield on the largest Starfield Magazine was like 3 days ago.

Not that I really need or get that much out of that content but it's shit I like to talk about. And sure I can create the communities or post the content, but it's like yelling into an abyss right now.

That'll change as more people join, of course, it's just a part I miss.

RheingoldRiver,

I've joined a ton of new discords in the past few weeks. they're keeping me together until the threadiverse takes off.

be_excellent_to_each_other, in Does anyone regret deleting their Reddit account?
@be_excellent_to_each_other@kbin.social avatar

I deleted a 10+ year old account a couple of years ago. The accounts I deleted when the ruckus started were those I'd been using since then.

That 10 year old account a couple years ago bugged me awhile because I had the conceit that anyone at all on Reddit recognized my name or cared what I had to say. Eventually I got over that.

As a result, I felt almost no sting from wiping and deleting the younger ones. Maybe 5 minutes of feeling a little weird about it until I realized I'd given up exactly nothing.

@LegendofDragoon@kbin.social avatar

I do feel like I recognize people here more probably because of the avatars. I see you around a lot, and I recognize Nepenthe, catch 42, and otomechan based on their avatars.

Funnily enough I always think you're Ernest for half a second before I realize I've done it again.

Hah I could see how the avatar is similar at first glance. :-)

athos77, (edited ) in Does anyone regret deleting their Reddit account?

14 years, 17 accounts, ~2000000 karma. Nuked everything: deleted comments and submissions, de-modded myself, unsubbed from everything, gilded various protest content using the coins I'd been given over the years, bought a cool Apollo app t-shirt, walked out and walked away. Nope, don't miss it; I'm exploring kbin and tildes, and getting my meme content from imgur. Which is ironic in a way, because the sole reason imgur was created was because reddit refused to allow native images.

Are you having regrets? It's okay to have regrets.

Lemmyfunbun,

What is kbin and tildes?

TelKaivokalma,
@TelKaivokalma@kbin.social avatar

Always weird to read comments like this while on Kbin. Kbin is another "threadiverse" instance. Like Lemmy or whatever.

LegendofDragoon,
@LegendofDragoon@kbin.social avatar

Yeah, it becomes so second nature that I'm on kbin that it's a weird kind of dissonance, like someone asking what's Reddit on Reddit.

EnglishMobster,
@EnglishMobster@kbin.social avatar

I love everyone always saying "Lemmy, what's XYZ?" or whatever not realizing there's a good chunk of people not on Lemmy.

It does get annoying when I see Lemmy-specific questions in my feed, though.

Very_Bad_Janet,

Kbin is a part of the Fediverse and is similar to Lemmy. I have a kbin.social account and am replying to you from kbin. (I subscribe to a lot of Lemmy communities via kbin).

Tildes is not a part of the Fediverse. It is a text-driven private forum basically created and run by one person. You need an invite from a Tildes account holder to join. It's its own little island. am on Tildes a lot and really like it.

Openminded-skeptic,

Isn't the founder of Tildes a former Reddit admin with a pretty well-known account? Or am I remembering that wrong?

Amongog,
@Amongog@kbin.social avatar

Kbin is a different software than Lemmy, although similar.
It has only been around a few months (unlike lemmy that has years in development).

It offers what seems to me a more centralized view of the fediverse, with federation to lemmy servers and mastodon servers as well.

It has access to the microblogging feature, that is like sending a toot from mastodon.

I've found it to be a more familiar experience to Reddit, and honestly, I prefer it over lemmy.

Due to it being so new, it has many missing features lemmy might have, like mobile apps (the API is still not public, and it's being worked on).

HOWEVER, Kbin has a great community backing it up.
I'm currently posting this from the amazing Artemis beta app for Kbin, the first of its kind.
This is due to the incredible job @Hariette has done!!

Really awesome! Another clear benefit of the fediverse/activitypub.

pizza_rolls, in Reddit is a dead site running
@pizza_rolls@kbin.social avatar

Reddit is a bunch of people asking each other to rate them now, including their clothes and wedding dresses. I don't understand the appeal of any of those subs, especially when we already know some of them were specifically created by 4chan to try to get people to kill themselves 😬

ImaginaryFox,

Haha I visited with being logged in and it was true what you said. So many rate me sub content. Someone disagreed saying it is your algorithm. I wanted to sign in and comment to say no go log out and see what reddit shows by default when you browse all, but resisted.

CoWizard,

I still have a few communities that have yet to migrate, so I hate browse them. But sometimes it recommends these rating subs, and morbid curiosity takes over. I swear, the vitriol that is emitted from some of these people... It's just depressing to see people treated that way

pizza_rolls,
@pizza_rolls@kbin.social avatar

I used to subject myself to those rating subs on 4chan for some dumbass reason when I was younger, do not recommend. Sucks to see people fall into the same cycle.

melroy,
@melroy@kbin.melroy.org avatar

@CoWizard
@db0 @pizza_rolls Tell me, which communities are you still missing?

CoWizard,

Guitars, guitarpedals, various gardening communities, various construction communities, homeowning communities, diy stuff, worldjerking.

A lot of the non tech savvy communities have yet to move. It's the same reason facebook groups are good for that sort of thing

speedycat2014, in (Mildly NSFW) Welp, I guess that's it. The single photo that got my ~10-year-old, 60k+ karma Reddit account "permanently suspended."
@speedycat2014@lemmy.world avatar

They permanently banned my 9yo account with 2 million karma for using the “boxes of Liberty” metaphor in a highly up voted comment about Republicans taking away access to voting. They said it was a threat of violence. 🙄 Meanwhile fascists make literal death threats in conservative subs with no consequences.

The site has systematically been banning high volume contributors who aren’t right wing enough for at least the last 3 months. They, like Twitter, are trying to suppress the voices of people who are against fascism. It is deliberate and planned.

Bozicus, in Started deleting my Reddit comments, now my profiles shows no comments at all, despite them being there!

I think it may just be Reddit being inferior software, but it happened to me, too. I have been Googling “Reddit “ and my username, deleting what comes up, and doing the search again in a couple of days to see if it stuck. (Deleted comments will show up on Google for a few days because of caching, so there’s no point in checking immediately). It takes a while, but it’s fairly reliable, and it can be done in small batches.

Showroom7561,

Regardless, using Shreddit + my GRPD export is working! It’s slow, but it’s absolutely working!! I’ll let it continue to run overnight and that should be that! =)

Hogger85b,

Mine ran pretty much constantly from thursday night to this morning to remove 60k comments (although script crashed once on Friday and Sunday at0200 for isp.resets while I was asleep so not quite full time)

(One tip if it does stall make a note of the comment I'd it stopped on and clean out the copy of the comments.csv the script uses above that point. That way it is not starting again)

Showroom7561,

Ok, it did stall after about 16,000 comments. Is it ONLY the comments.csv files that needs to be edited because there’s another file (comments_headers.csv) that seems important. LOL

Hogger85b,

Assuming your using the https://github.com/andrewbanchich/shreddit script then it uses the comments.csv as it's reference not headers. If you are doing posts as well then that uses Posts.csv

gigachad, in Started deleting my Reddit comments, now my profiles shows no comments at all, despite them being there!

I just played around a bit and noticed old comments appear when I sort my user profile by top or controversial of all time. Going do delete those manually tomorrow, though I have no idea if these are all. Comments are >4yrs old and definitely behind the assumed 1,000 comment limit.

Hogger85b,

You can get your top 1000 (only updates as comments are voted) your comteqverisal 1000 and newest. So you should be able to see your most popular. In theory if they were all different you could see 3000 comments but they is likily.overlap. Reddit doesn't bump any into new if you delete and doesn't go looking for votes on delete either.
