My dad threw a party to celebrate when I graduated university with a degree in Computer Science.
At the party, my dad’s friend took me aside and said “My nephew just got a degree in electrical engineering. Now that’s an up and coming field, you should get a degree in that.”
Like, alright buddy. Hopefully that career pays well enough for another four years of student debt. I’m still kinda in shock at how dumb of a thing to say that was.
Ah yes the brand new exciting world of electricity. Rumor on the street is they’ve got this fancy new device called a tellyfone that uses this electricity. You can talk to anyone in the world!
My grandfather loved country and western. I loved my grandfather, I loathe country and western (at least if they could play the fcuking track at 45 not 16 rpm … yes, I know it says 16, it doesn’t mean that hopefully … please god).
Long story short. Physical pain is a good distraction tool. JS.
he’s an astroturfer though, is he really low enough to stoop to ddos? thankfully the fediverse is diverse and resilient to attacks to any one instance lol
No, I mean his fanbois. His employees would get paid to do that stuff and then there would also again be a way for him to bear the consequences. His fanbois don't get paid and he doesn't bear the risk.
Brands don't have to do shit like this. They have weird trolls with weirder parasocial relationships to intellectual property to do it for them, unprompted.
It’s the rise spezkin. Super Reddit Hyper Loyalists so invested in their upcoming karma farming fortunes that any threat to Reddit gets met with scorched earth tactics.
…I’m only kidding, I hope this doesn’t become a thing.
I’m using free account on Mega. Had it for years, have my photos automagically back up there, still haven’t used all of the free storage. If that happens, I’ll probably subscribe there since it’s tested, familiar and safe. But there’s also Proton Drive. Will compare both when I need it.
There is no such thing anymore as a job for life anymore that ended in the 80s. I don’t honestly think that’s there’s a career for life anymore either, that ended in the early years of this century.
Asking someone to choose something to do for 50 years (if they’re lucky) at 16 or 18 is folly.
Build yourself a portfolio of skills which you are proficient in and enjoy doing. I would include (1) languages in that and (2) the technique of communication over and above any technical skills you possess.
I say languages because a second language awakens a different mode of thought, maybe not too much if the languages are closely related.
I’m Gen X and was probably never conventionally employable. Company Roles I’ve had seemed to seek me rather than me them. I wish I had been much more aggressive about a second language much earlier on.
It’s not the language itself. It seems to assist in fluidity of communication. I’m not sure that I can explain what I mean by that: the structure of French sentences differs wildly from English sentences sometimes, but about 30% of English words are French in origin. It seems to encourage me to thing about how I am conveying my idea in words without me being cognisance of that happening.
Lol, point taken. It has to be an actual rebuttal, and I guess that does take time. Downvoting everything you don’t immediately agree with seems like a bad policy, though.
Technically, you correct. The best kind of correct! OP could use a tablet, a ChromeOS device, an emulator, I think even Google TVs have Play Store access…There’s probably someone out there right now trying to use their smart fridge to access the play store
There are just two subs I check about once every two days, but I’m yet to log in again after I disconnected my account last month. I used to only visit it through Libreddit as the UX is better anyway but now that one’s gone too…
I had a dream, when I was a young teen, about being the single parent of a daughter (mother died in child birth). I remember the 18 years of raising that child better than most of my own childhood memories: taking her home from the hospital, first steps, signing up for elementary school, taking her to school every day, watching my child grow up. Getting into disagreements, teaching to bike, the panic of the first day of her period (she tried to hide it because she thought she’d be in trouble). High school, school clubs, prom, college applications. We got into a disagreement on her 18th, and she told me I was a terrible paren, that I’d failed even being friends with her, which was the opposite of how I thought it was going. She appeared in the front door with a suitcase, and walked out stating she’d never see me again, and the dream ended. To this day it still shakes me, but not as hard as it did when I woke up that day, broken for being a bad parent that I didn’t see.
That’s crazy. Yeah this was before inceptions release by a few years, and I didn’t see the TNG episode till 10 years later. Now everyone I tell this to jokes I’ve watched/played some game in Rick & Morty or something?
