I’m using it when looking for specific information about specific topics (tutorials, product reviews) but I haven’t looked at the front page since the announcement
I just started blocking all the meme subs, because there's so many of them and they all clog up my feed. If I want memes, I'll go to Squabbles. Their meme game is legitimately on point over there, and I think their page layout is better suited for meme feeds than Lemmy.
however, i was raised for 18 years in the st. louis area so that’s my preference- STL style thin crispy crust, provel cheese, square cut. pretty opposite to what you’ll find in a detroit style 'za.
Sometimes if there's a good deal for something I know I want. For instance, I was wanting an RG35XX (portable retro console). I had never heard about Temu, went there and got the $100 off bundle (basically a set of thresholds to hit for up to $100 off). I found the RG35XX for $53 ($17 less than Amazon), and that coupon knocked it down to $28. For me that was a no brainer.
The propaganda from King of the Hill has made for sub-prime cookouts for all my life up until a few months ago.
Believing propane was the superior heating element of the cookout, because of Hank Hill, I never tried a charcoal grill. But when I went to other folks cookouts, it tasted so good. A little sweet and smokiness charred into the meat, “How did they do that?!” I contemplated late into many nights.
I switched to Charcoal after a friendly suggestion, and the difference is mind-blowing. If you’re cooking with propane, you might as well be cooking on a stove.
To be fair, there was an episode of KotH where Bobby and Peggy discover that charcoal was actually superior to propane when it came to taste. It was a whole big thing and hilarious to watch them try to keep it a secret from Hank lol
There are traps which are called mosquito magnets and they hook up to a propane tank to burn a small pilot light which produces CO2 to attract mosquitos and pull them into a bag via a fan.
You want to place them at the edge of your property though not close to your deck because they attract mosquitos in order to kill them.
I have tried these. They are expensive to run as you need to burn through a tank of propane each month. They do catch some mosquitoes, but they make little overall difference.
Okay then go with the electric ones. I had the propane trap and while it worked well the constant propane tank refill was a drag and I certainly couldn’t afford multiple.
Enter Dynatrap + Mods.
Dynatrap uses an electric light and fan. It works medium but if you put the octenol attractant in the catch basket it really turbocharged it. Want to kill more? Hang a “bug ball” under the trap covered with Tanglefoot spray. Any mosquito that lands on the ball dies there because they are stuck. The ball will be thoroughly disgusting looking quickly but very effective.
I’ve spent many years combating.
The Bt mosquito dunks help for any standing water ( have gutters?)
If you get creative you can put maybe a candle floating in the middle of a large bowl of water, then a bit of detergent will break the surface tension to make them fall in. The detergent will also kill them.
I sometimes use AliExpress for DIY electronics like microcontrollers and other components. An Esp32 usually costs around 8-12 euros in Europe. On AliExpress I buy them for 3 (plus shipping). Its worth it if you are buying more than just a few. Shipping is usually slow but if its not urgent its cheap and so far of good/ decent quality.
I did also buy a small industrial camera on there which did not work. I contacted the seller and after some troubleshooting they agreed to ship a new camera to me (still waiting on that one) but in principle I am satisfied with the service for the price I payed.
AliExpress is the best place to buy electronics online. If you know you’ll need some stuff, just place an order for a few dollars, wait a month, and have your cheap eletronics for as long as you need.
“Why not? You and I are eccentrics. We’re certainly not typical of the people living on Terminus. As for criminals, that’s a matter of definition. And if criminals are the price we must pay for rebels, heretics, and geniuses, I’m willing to pay it. I demand the price be paid. […] You can’t have geniuses and saints without having people far outside the norm, and I don’t see how you can have on only one side of the norm. There is bound to be a certain symmetry.” - Foundation and Earth by Isaac Asimov
Yeah I unsubbed aswell. Sorting by all no longer seems viable option. Just need to subscribe to every even slightly interesting community and then just stick to your personal subscribed feed. I don’t want to block those communities either because I want to see memes aswell. Just not a hundred shitty ones in a row.
I use autodesk products and other electrical engineering industrial products that require using windows. I’m mostly happy with being able to live in the mingw environment provided by git bash. Gives me most of what I need for a POSIX environment.
To switch to Linux full time I’d need to change jobs, lol.
