novibe, in What genres of music do Lemmites enjoy?

I’m into everything tbh.

Lately I’ve been getting into the following:

Teenage Fanclub (song is The Concept)

The Lemon Twigs (song is In My Head)

Tainy (song is FANTASMA | AVC)

Duster (song is Constellations)

Alex G (song is Mary)

I guess that’s mostly alt-rock, slacker rock type stuff. Except Tainy… But damn DATA is fucking good man.

gjoel, in How do you enjoy listening to digital content? Speakers? Headphones? Earbuds?

I mostly listen on headphones during my workday. I very much prefer to listen on speakers though.

teawrecks, in What password manager do you recommend?

Keepass is

  • open source and free
  • just uses a file, so you can sync it wherever/however you want
  • has a browser plugin with autofill if you’re into that
  • is supported on all platforms
  • database lives in an encrypted file that you put wherever you choose
sonstwas,

For syncing I use Syncthing. It’s open-source as well and syncs two/multiple devices without the need for cloud-storage

Jourei, in How do you enjoy listening to digital content? Speakers? Headphones? Earbuds?

When I want high quality and am not really on the go, I have Drop panda headphones and some Sony earbuds for when I am on the go.

I like headphones but if the music isn’t taking advantage of the left/right channels, it doesn’t matter if I listen on my big ass stereo. My only issue with headphones is after a while, my ears start to ache (the outside part I mean) and/or get uncomfortably hot. Even with my large monitors that go completely around and don’t actually touch my ears, I start to feel like they’re being squeezed.

Djangofett, in Does anyone actually enjoy working out?

I forgot to add, it’s good to have a goal. Whether it’s losing weight or building muscle, and have a plan to achieve it. Keep at it, it takes time for new habits to form.

GlitterNinja, in What genres of music do Lemmites enjoy?

This is a bit messy looking, but these are my top five fav “genres” and my fav “artists” from each (genres in quotes because half of these aren’t exactly genres. Artists in quotes because one is not the artist but a sound the real artists use).

Kawaii metal: Babymetal and Ladybaby

Anime music: guess I’ll say Aimer because that’s probably the one artist with the most anime songs in my playlist (shoutout to Nier games soundtracks because they don’t fit in any of my other fav “genres”)

Vocaloids and utauloids: Flower is my fav vocaloid - love how she sounds, love her designs, and it helps that she was made for j-rock/metal

Vtubers/Hololive performers: Bae is bae

Rock/metal: Avenged Sevenfold and Metallica

Djangofett, in Does anyone actually enjoy working out?

I love lifting weight. I squat three to four times a week and I love going heavy. I also love bench and deadlifts also. Seeing my body get stronger is also rewarding, and just being physically capable is a great bonus. Helps counter act my sitting!

XpeeN, in What is the best anonymous image hosting site?

Actually pasteboard looks pretty good, I wonder how long the imgs stays online. Thanks for that.

snor10, in Does anyone else struggle with silence, particularly when trying to sleep?

I must have earplugs and an eyemask to sleep. Always wanted pitch black and complete silence since I was a child.

LachlanUnchained,

My wife is the same.

substill, in What is a beautiful concept or idea that continues to blow your mind?

Thermoses. They keep hot stuff hot. They keep cold stuff cold. No touchscreen or controls whatsoever. How does it know?

dmention7,

On the chance you’re not just making a funny - The walls of your house keep inside stuff inside and outside stuff outside. A thermos is just a wall for heat, whether that heat is trying to get in or out.

stinkypoopsalot,

Are you saying I live in a thermos?

Saigonauticon,

I suppose you could model the Earth as a thermos, or some type of vacuum flask.

Saigonauticon, in What is a beautiful concept or idea that continues to blow your mind?

The Elitzur–Vaidman bomb-tester, specifically (en.wikipedia.org/…/Elitzur–Vaidman_bomb_tester).

Next, that I can buy and program a computer for 0.30 USD that’s half the size of a grain of rice (ATtiny10). There are cheaper too, but that’s the one I like.

Finally, on to the horrifying: Boltzmann brains. The idea that given a reasonable interpretation of the laws of thermodynamics, and long spans of time, the most common form of brain in the universe ought to be one that forms due to random fluctuations. It exists for long enough to have exactly one thought (e.g. recall a false memory), then dissipates.

This ought to be by far the most common form of conscious mind in the Universe. In a sense, you could say it ‘blows’ the general case of minds.

Since you are a mind, statistically, you ought to be a Boltzmann brain. You may not be, but are unable to prove otherwise, even to yourself. So either we have some things left to learn about thermodynamics, or the most probable outcome at all times is that you cease to exist immediately after having your current thought (although I hope you don’t). Sleep tight!

Brochetudo, in What's the point of buying new phones every years?

I can’t see why you can’t see the difference. I’ve been swapping every few years from the lowest tier phone that’s recently come out and each change feels like night and day each and every time. Perhaps you should stop buying overpriced phones?

Kleysley,

Buying cheaper phones for the purpose of feeling the need to upgrade them sooner doesnt really make sende though, does it?

Brochetudo, (edited )

I have had three phones in the span of ten years. All of them were gifted to me via the line provider. I don’t know what you are talking about, mate,

azuth,

Well, there are some arguments pro buying cheaper phones.

  1. You have the option to upgrade, you are not obliged. Even if you finance the more expensive phone you are still committed for more. You have more options.
  2. Batteries do naturally degrade over time. No matter how expensive or good your phone is.
  3. Accidents happen some will not be covered by warranty but I also do not see more expensive phones having more than 2 years warranty which is the minimum.
  4. If you do chose to upgrade you have more phones, that means a backup or a free phone for a member of your family.
Brahm1nmam,

Point 4 is more important than some may think, you can dial 911 without an active SIM. For this reason alone I have old phones in all my gloveboxes.

Plus a couple years ago my folks were floating the river and their dry bag somehow stopped being I dry bag, I don’t remember the story cause I wasn’t there. But, when they got home, I was able to set them up with passable phones while the ones they ordered online came in the mail.

Kleysley,

Well these are some really good points! I didnt think about batteries degrading but as far as I know, the more expensive phones tend to have larger batteries which will still get you through a day without charging…

Talking about accidents, I dont think the warranty replaces accidents where you are at fault (?). My phones (cheap or expensive) always had a case and tempered glass on them and I have yet to damage any of them but I get your point, expensive phones have to last for longer. I personally worry more about how long I am going to get security updates though…

  1. Completely agree with you on this one.
