deftnerd, in Hey Lemmy, what are some good public domain books?
@deftnerd@slrpnk.net avatar

I notice that you specifically mentioned audiobooks, but if you’re interested in written ebooks, check out Standard EBooks

They take public domain books and run them through a detailed process of editing and typesetting them to create beautiful versions.

Personally, I’m a big fan of The Personal Recollections of Joan of Arc by Mark Twain. There is an audiobook version on Librevox too!

freamon, in Is there an instance to request the creation of new instances?

Just start one (a community, that is). There’s not some marauding band of trolls out there, waiting to give you a hard time. If it’s niche enough, it’ll be a highlight just to see someone-who-isn’t-you post something!

Eric_andre311,

I wouldn’t mind creating one, but thinking ahead there may be new users who are looking for certain communities but don’t have the experience to create or mod one themselves.

This could help get things going faster and may give ideas to the people that are happy to do so.

beaubbe, in What the heck is this insect, anyone?

Google Lens says it’s a Signal Fly, does look similar!

lvxferre,
@lvxferre@lemmy.ml avatar

I’ve found a Canadian site describing it. It has a similar wing pattern, and it says that they’re “reportedly attracted to sweat”, that would explain why they’re driving OP nuts.

IthronMorn, in What's the point of buying new phones every years?

Z fold user here. This thing has a limited number of times of being folded and unfolded. My early upgrade plan is kinda to prevent the inevitable happening while I’m the device owner.

If you do not have a Google Services dependence, you can look the far superior hardware of Huawei Mate X3.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-ScIkOukCc (best foldable reviewer by far, since MrMobile is exclusive to USA)

IthronMorn,

It’s actually the Samsung software that I like most.

CoffeeBot, in Does anyone actually enjoy working out?

It varies for me. Some days I’m like “I get to work out! 😄”

And other days are closer to

“I have to work out 😣”

But I like the progress I’ve made, I’m even starting to see shadow under my ribs. I always feel better after the workout though, and it makes me feel like the relaxation time I typically do after is earned.

DJDarren, in Hey Lemmy, what are some good public domain books?

If ebooks are acceptable to you, then Standard Ebooks is the shit. Proper classics, formatted in a nice way, ready to drop onto whatever reading device you have.

jcb2016, (edited ) in Liftoff. Lemmy app. Do you like the way it works now?
@jcb2016@lemmy.world avatar

This is the best app ever on android and ios. i mainly use it on ios thought. Thanks devs

e: Trying Memmy it’s also good

MartinXYZ,

I have been using Connect for a while and really like it, but I’ll be trying out Liftoff for a bit now, I think it looks smooth!

Mugmoor, in People of Lemmy, have you ever had what some would consider a "spiritual" experience?
@Mugmoor@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Sure. Shroms’ll do that to ya.

reverendsteveii,

this, but in a way that’s not flippant and dismissive.

Bishma, in Hey Lemmy, what are some good public domain books?
@Bishma@social.fossware.space avatar

“We” by Yevgeny Zamyatin is the book that inspired both “Brave New World” and “1984”. If you go looking for it in paper form it’s sometimes credited to Eugene Zamyatin, as Eugene is the English version of Yevgeny.

ViciousTurducken, in Liftoff. Lemmy app. Do you like the way it works now?

The UI is a little too cluttered and messy for my liking but it’s a solid app! Love FOSS software

YourFavouriteNPC,

FOSS software

I love free and open source software software, too! 😉

justsayit, in What password manager do you recommend?

Plus one for BitWarden for a great low price/free option that’s open source.

1Password if you have a few extra bucks to spend. I find the look and feel to be worth the money despite not being open source.

Kristho,

I agree on this one. I used Bitwarden first - but now I’m on 1Password for both work and personal use.

rufus, in Is there an instance to request the creation of new instances?

I think you mean communities, not instances?

Maybe advertise your idea to the right people… But you’re right. Starting a new communitiy takes some effort and more than one person to get things rolling.

venusenvy47, (edited ) in Liftoff. Lemmy app. Do you like the way it works now?

It was buggy and the “Subscribed” feeds weren’t showing anything. I just deleted and reinstalled and it’s working well now.

I like that it shows the full community/instance name with each post. That lets me see where the content is coming from. It seems hidden on another apps I’ve tried.

swancheez,

There’s a toggle in the settings in Connect for that now.

Christopher, in What password manager do you recommend?

One more point on Bitwarden - when the top password managers were being hacked/exploited, Bitwarden was keen to fix what appeared to be vulnerabilities in an extremely timely manner. I don’t remember where I read the article but it still fared best out of all the other managers out there.

It may have been ars technica, I don’t remember.

croobat, in Liftoff. Lemmy app. Do you like the way it works now?

I like the minimalistic approach of Lerboa, but liftoff looks really solid. Totally see why it would appeal more to general masses, it’s beautiful!

FarLine99,

Jerboa is good. But Liftoff is better feature wise 🙂

Nilz,

I started with Jerboa but didn’t really like it. Switched to Connect for Lemmy and it’s been great. I’ll give Liftoff a go.
