wtvr, in Why is youtube recommending conservative "talking points" to me?

It’s because you are a guy in your 30s. You (and me) are in a shitty demographic so the algorithm peddles us shit. It doesn’t matter how many times I list shitheel vids by the ppl you me mentioned as “do not recommend channel”, I will always have Rogan or Peterson popping up in my feed to ruin my day. It drives me crazy

Robertej92,

It can’t just be that though, I’m a guy in my 30s and I never get any of these channels recommended to me, just videos by channels I’ve subscribed to or similar to what I’ve been watching, even after watching political videos I don’t get those shysters recommended to me.

stealth_cookies,

Agreed, I’m in the demographic as well and mostly get science education and cooking videos recommended to me. I’ll get the occasional political video but they are definitely more left wing channels.

@Obi@sopuli.xyz avatar

There’s a difference between the recommendations for normal videos and shorts, I’d bet OP is looking at shorts.

In the normal feed YouTube knows about my hobbies, interests and serves decent recommendations that usually interest me.

The rare times I look at shorts it starts with comedians, goes to ass&tits, and then out come the crazy right-wingers.

stappern,

fucking same and im also dude in my 30s, i stopped using it. no way to not get that garbage.

Klawn, in what was your first video game/system you played or remember playing?

It was fruity Franck on armstrad CPC. You had to insert a floppy disk and type EXACTLY the program’s name, which i couldn’t because me as a child always called it tutty fruity. My uncle needed to be here if i wanted to play.

Pssk, in What's the point of buying new phones every years?
@Pssk@lemmy.ml avatar

I have been using my poco f1 for more than 4 years now, the only problem i have had is the battery. It has an sdcard slot, headphone jack, 6gb of ram which has been more than enough and latest lineageos is supported. see fsfe.org/activities/…/index.en.html

saddlebag, in Does anyone else struggle with silence, particularly when trying to sleep?

Buy yourself a white noise machine. I’ve been using one for almost 10 years, it’s helped my sleep routine immensely. I prefer it to something with talking because the fluctuations of something like comedy would disrupt me. Also, I think that concentrating on something like comedy makes me want to watch it and I would woke up.

The next thing is an eye mask. Even if your room is mostly dark, I’ve found it helps me to stay asleep.

ToastyBanana, in Does anyone else struggle with silence, particularly when trying to sleep?

Others have made great points; I’d like to add my favourite: you can play rain sounds from Spotify (and iOS devices can do this without any subscriptions from the Hearing CC toggle)!

It helps me during nights I have a lot on my mind :)

kreateer, in I'm being harassed by mosquitoes, how do i kill them all?
@kreateer@programming.dev avatar

I’ve found that Eucaliptus plants deter mosquitoes pretty well

WaDef7, in e-reader or tablet for reading academic paper

Many people here are talking about buying an iPad and the pencil, but if all you're doing is reading papers I think this is a massive overspend. There are many inexpensive android tablets that come with pencils plenty good enough for handwriting or non-artistic drawing.

Of course, you say you have a job so you're likely not to need to buy the cheapest thing possible (even if you don't, you're not forced to buy an iPad, Samsung's tablet software is quite good), but I don't want someone with the same use case, who might just be a student, to get the impression they need to spend a grand to read pdfs.

Double_A, in What password manager do you recommend?
@Double_A@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

For important things Keepass (which I sync in Onedrive). For casual things whatever the browser offers… or some random long password and password reset ._.

DreamySweet, in Does anyone else struggle with silence, particularly when trying to sleep?
@DreamySweet@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

I need constant noise from something like a fan to sleep.

majorgator13, in What password manager do you recommend?
@majorgator13@kbin.social avatar

Currently using bitwarden. Moved over from LastPass. Free and works on browser plus mobile. Like it so far.

peter, in Is it a good idea to enable "show bot accounts" on lemmy?
@peter@feddit.uk avatar

Bad bots won’t mark themselves as bot accounts so it’s lore a case of if you want to see things like reminder bots etc

lemminer,

The reason why I made this post was my subscribed feed was being filled with lot of posts from lemmy.world/c/digitalart and lemmy.ml/c/memes, and I didn’t like the fact that these two prominently stayed on my feed. Unless post from other communities weren’t highly rated, they weren’t showing up, where I’m more interested in seeing new posts from niche communities.

I’m facing the same issue what I was facing with Reddit where important posts from smaller communities were getting skipped from my feed. Which I find very undesirable.

Althought I appreciate the memes and the artwork, I had to unsubscribe from them. Which is giving me better results.

StudioLE,

Disagree. If that were the case then the evil bit would be entirely redundant

andreluis034, in What password manager do you recommend?

I think bitwarden fills all of your requirements.

RustedSwitch, in What password manager do you recommend?
@RustedSwitch@lemmy.world avatar

It’s been a long time since I switched to 1Password, but I used to use keepass. I’m not sure whether keepass has a browser extension, but otherwise (if I recall) it checks your other boxes.

1Password is great, even though it’s not open source, and you get to a spot in life where $3/mo is feasible.

slazer2au, in what was your first video game/system you played or remember playing?

Super Mario World 3 for the NES.

what a masterpiece! still so charming and fun and challenging today! and OH the music (with an extra sound-chip in the cartridge to add more voices!!) <3

japps13, in What password manager do you recommend?

I like the Password for Nextcloud app. I self-host mine, but I think there might be Nextcloud instances that you can access. It is encrypted, and has an app for smartphones.
