pass would meet your requirements. It is a super simple implementation of a password manager levying PGP for encryption and git for syncing. You can therefore use any git server for syncing. There are browser extensions for autofill etc and scripts to import/export passwords etc.
Yeh. It’s amazing. I have a medical license for it. But sometimes I want to not sleep haha. More about the silence being frightening. Rather than not being able to sleep. Haha.
longevity. Between software updates and an over powered phone cpu I know it will last. Android phones in general barely get security updates.
Simplicity. I used to root and install ROMs on my android phone. I used to jailbreak iPhones. I’m done with that now. I do enough technical work at work I don’t want to have to mess with my phone.
Security. Ties into updates somewhat, but how often do you hear about iOS malware? It is usually big news when you do.
I don’t see how that point is relevant as that claim was never made.
The claim was that Android phones usually barely get updates which maps to my experience. Updates more than one or two years after the release of a device is the exception, not the norm.
For the first year or two, that’s common. Getting feature updates for anything even approaching >5 years is near unthinkable for Android devices however. You only get that with custom ROMs and even there it’s only half of the story as they can’t provide security updates for vendor blobs which is kind of a big yikes.
The iPhone 8 will get cut off the newest feature updates in the upcoming iOS 17; 6 years after launch. Security updates will likely be available for years to come. For comparison, my OnePlus 5 from 2017 (1 year younger) received its last update (any update whatsoever) in 2020 (3 years ago).
With an Android device, you’d be lucky to get security patches in any regularity at all, much less >3 years after release. That only happens with a couple few vendors who actually care such as Nokia and maybe Google (to a degree).
The vendor blobs in custom ROMs come from the stock vendor ROM. When the vendor stops publishing their stock ROM, the custom ROM’s will also stop coming. In some cases some BLOBs can be taken from similar devices that might be supported a bit longer but I believe this is quite rare.
The ROM itself still gets updates through the AOSP but vendor BLOBs stay where they are and open source devs can do little to nothing about that.
I homebrew the ROM on my personal phone and I can tell you from first hand experience that you need the vendor dirs extracted from the OEM ROM. You can read up on that on the wiki pages for building any device ROM.
You can also come to that conclusion the other way around: How else would you (or LOS maintainers) get your hands on proprietary blobs full of secret sauce that vendors sometimes even try to actively block access to?
blameitonjorge, nexpo, night mind I've found work great as they talk in a very mellow manner. As long as you're ok falling asleep to the type of stuff they talk about lol
hottest: 42°C in summer 2003. there have probably been warmer days by now, but I’m not aware of any.
coldest: -14°C in winter 2009/2010, while waiting for an absolute asshole of a bus driver to stop reading his news paper and finally open the door to let us in. I get that you want to enjoy your break in silence, but ffs. Leaving us waiting in such cold temperatures for around 10 minutes was just inhumane.
I do light workouts at home, and it’s honestly a hassle, but I enjoy the benefits of it (especially walking just to take my mind off of things). So I kinda just suck it up lol. I’m still working towards making it a habit (if not already), so what I do is also watch videos during sessions.
I find that being active along with having a balanced diet makes me feel energized throughout the day, and also make me sleep better at night.
I also look forward to cheat days. I work hard and in return, reward myself with something good. Whenever I find myself feeling lazy, I try my best to push through with it. Feels kinda bad to skip tbh so I try to make it up the following day.
As someone who lives in a mosquito-ridden area, I’d usually spray the target room with mosquito repellant. However, this method is toxic so I’d usually stay outside the sprayed room for a while.
If you want to avoid toxic fumes I’d say blue light traps are pretty effective, though they won’t kill as many mosquitos as the repellant.
Haha, what a great idea! I love it! Sending me a signal about things you don’t want me to record!
I would build two things. First, an antenna that detects and (using multiple copies) locates these signals on a real time, public-access map.
Second, I’d build a security camera with a wide angle lens that turns ON whenever this signal is received.
Sure, 90% of people don’t know how to do these things – but I do, and I can put them in a store and the results on a website. Most people know how to buy a thing and plug it in, or access a website!
Then I’ll manufacture a ton of them at a factory here in Vietnam, and you will be able to buy them at a reasonable price. I’ll make a tidy sum, pay a bunch of taxes that will build highways and schools, and you’ll have more freedom than you started with.
I’m less successfully mercenary, though, so I know what I assume is a representative sample of tech muggles. Having thought about it, 1% of people could figure this out, and maybe 0.1% wouldn’t have to use other people’s tools to do it.
Hm, uniting people in general is like herding cats. Uniting hermits? Sounds hard. I’ll stick to science :D
Being mercenary is largely overrated – better to try and live a calm and happy life filled with friends and family.
Many opinions have been offered on whether the most valuable attribute in warfare (and by this I mean business) is loyalty or bravery, but few people are willing to admit it’s actually just hunger.
As others say, Bitwarden checks all of those boxes, and KeepassXC technically doesn’t fit the “not self hosted” requirement, but you can store your database file in any cloud storage you want.
I find it helpful to listen to .mp3s of people talking about something I’m interested in. I can focus on that and drift off to sleep and wake up not even realising I fell asleep. Also, I’ve found a hindu mantra that helps sometimes. It’s so hypnotic, it just carries me into the navel of sleep.
