mbryson, in What's your opinion on all the Reddit alternatives?
@mbryson@lemmy.ca avatar

The big thing with any Reddit alternative is what kind of community is migrating over there. A lot of controversies Reddit has had in the past have centered around vocally discriminatory communities migrating to a new platform after Reddit has decided their content does not align with their views and goals as a company.

Fatpeoplehate, the_donald, probably jailbait I imagine (though before my time on the site thankfully).

The one exception I would say would be the uncerwmonious firing of Victoria from AMA which caused an uproar and led to AMA’s never really feeling the same. I didn’t think about leaving then, but I understood the anger and concept of reddit slowly losing its identity in favour of a more corporate one. Ironically Reddit’s latest decision has led to AMA opening the flood gates to anyone and everyone, giving a more genuine feel to the community.

Now 3rd party apps being shut down (although revanced provides an alternative) has caused a general consensus it’s time to leave, fragmenting communities into different websites and platforms. I’ve encountered some hostility and opinions I personally disagree with on Lemmy, but overall the generalized community here is a good replacement, over a displeased and spiteful group that would fixate on one specific person or upset over one specific group of people. Perhaps thats just the nature of the fediverse overall where - if an admin of lemmy.ca decides to make us a proudboys affiliated network - I can just go elsewhere.

TL;DR Lemmy is all I need. It’s not voat, it can federate with kbin fine, and it’s open allowing anyone and everyone to have their say. I like Lemmy!

Borscht, in Liftoff. Lemmy app. Do you like the way it works now?

It immediately replaced connect for me. Absolutely incredible. I think I’ll have to pick around for some actual feedback, but that’s a damn good sign so early.

Love the layout, organization and it’s immediately captured my entire Lemmy usage.

domesticstreetcat, in What search engine do you use? (and why?)

duckduckgo primarily, but have been starting to dabble with a self hosted Whoogle.

Stillhart, in Liftoff. Lemmy app. Do you like the way it works now?

I’m not a fan. It’s laid out weird, like a Apple app or something. I just couldn’t get used to it.

Connect and Jerboa are the two I’m trying to decide between now.

c0mplexx, in What's your opinion on all the Reddit alternatives?

Didn’t try the others but Lemmy is basically a less active Reddit so
I already stumbled upon a power hungry mod too

blirdo, in Liftoff. Lemmy app. Do you like the way it works now?

I’m using Liftoff until Boost (formerly Boost for Reddit) releases their app. Boost was an amazing experience on Reddit so I have to imagine it’ll be equally good with Lemmy. So far Liftoff has been very good though. No real complaints but would love to see more customization options in the future.

Tygr, in Are you replacing Reddit with Lenny?

Yes (Lemmy), replaced it about two weeks ago. I only visit Reddit for super niche stuff while logged out and using an as locker with the old subdomain. I will never upvote or reply to a topic on there ever again.

retrieval4558, in What's your opinion on all the Reddit alternatives?

I’m all in on Lemmy. Haven’t tried many others.

YSK, you can edit titles here.

TeaHands, in What is the best peice of media you ever interacted with?
@TeaHands@lemmy.world avatar

Games: Outer Wilds and World of Warcraft.

The former because it’s an experience unlike anything else I’ve ever had in gaming, and the story and meaning stays with you for years afterwards (possibly forever, but it’s too soon to tell.

The latter because the very idea of being able to really explore Azeroth after years of playing the Warcraft games was the most exciting thing ever, and the moment I first exited the orc starting area and looked at the map and saw how big the world was will never leave me.

Books: The Hobbit. Read it when I was 4, with a not insignificant amount of help from my dad. It was fun, it was thrilling, it was scary, and it kicked off a lifelong love of reading. For an adult it’s a very short read that will probably only take a couple days, which is also a big plus.

Honorary mention to Thud! by Terry Pratchett. Really the Discworld series as a whole, but that one particular book is the absolute perfect blend of comedy, social commentary and downright horror. Again, very much stays with you afterwards.

8565, in Is anyone else disappointed that Lemmy is becoming the new Reddit?

Sounds like your subscribed to some toxic communities. I dont have that problem at all

Fuckfuckmyfuckingass, in What is the best peice of media you ever interacted with?

Disco Elysium for sure.

MrShankles, in Are you replacing Reddit with Lenny?

I don’t trust anyone named Lenny. Lemmy is cool though

MxRemy, in What's your best recommendation for sharing images on Lemmy?

If you wanna stay in-fediverse, you could post the pics on a Pixelfed instance and use that as the host. Just post the pic there, copy the direct URL to it, put it in the URL bar in a post here and it will show up as a normal picture instead of a link. Also Pixelfed allows unlisted pics, like if it’s stuff that would clutter up your profile.

squirrel_bear, in I need to survive for 3 days without pooping, and eating as little as possible. I can pee, but not very often. It can't take up too much space. What food do I pack?

OP, there’s help available if you have OCD.
