cypherpunks, in This community is not for support! [Please report support posts]
@cypherpunks@lemmy.ml avatar

As a new member of the lemmy.ml admin team I’ve also been removing a lot of posts from here which belong in lemmy_support, which I think is worthwhile for preventing this community from becoming a boring list of support questions.

To the many people who are flagging them: please read the examples above and don’t flag every post that is about lemmy; only flag ones that are actually concrete support questions. And do feel free to actually answer these questions before flagging them, so that the person asking doesn’t necessarily need to re-post it.

Thanks!

Well you see I just found the fediverse and everything seemed fine, then you get issues with the front page not updating, and deleted comments don't federate and user display names and profile descriptions doesn't update and um... its just annoying. Not anyone's fault, developing code is hard, I know, but this is a post about venting so...

And real life is just not something I'd even wanna begin talking about, it'd would be 5 more paragraphs of stuff no one wants to read.

I'm sick and tired of working for other people. Having to take PTO to do literally anything you want to do on a weekday is so fucked, and I'm one of the lucky people (who works PST while in EST). Corporate policies and politics truly do run rampant through every company, and I just need to keep working on products until one becomes sustainable long-term.

Feel like that's the key to financial and physical freedom - making the next big thing, then getting it to a solid state and just doing gradual improvements. Don't pull a spez, don't piss people off and don't add too many new features after a while or you'll kill what you have. And for the love of GOD, don't go public.

IPO'ing and going public are what kill companies with great things running for them, simply due to the "keep growing every day until the company inevitably collapses" mindset.

I FUCKING HATE CAPITALISM THE WORLD IS FUCKING BURNING AND NOBODY GIVES A SHIT

balrog, in What communities ("subreddits") would you like to see?

I tended to use Reddit for smaller niche communities, many of which I do not see here yet. For example Eldin Ring, Ghost of Tsushima, Hot Sauce, Gifrecipes, Rings of Power, PTCGL. It will be nice when these can be created and have enough people to make it interesting but it's not there yet.

WolfhoundRO, in How do we feel about Meta joining the Fediverse?

They're trojan horse. We can't stop them from creating their own servers, but we can choose to defederate them. Up with the Anti-Meta Defederation Pact

BeePlusPlus, in What communities ("subreddits") would you like to see?

The two that I can think of are Justrolledintotheshop and Fitness. I know there are fitness communities, but I miss the Weekly rant, victory posts, and the activity. There was also a circlejerk version of it and I liked lurking there. I understand that the type of person signing up here probably aren’t into some of these things.

I know Justrolledintotheshop didn’t participate in the blackout because it seems like a lot of the posters there didn’t care about the API stuff. They also don’t care about their personal data being harvested, and I’m sure they complain about right to repair and all of that fun stuff too.

Anyways, I always liked the “humorous posts; educational comments” subreddit. Another example would be programmerhumor.

I appreciate the mods for what they do, but I only feel comfortable commenting, lurking, and the occasional posting. Posting content makes me feel too connected to the internet and reminds me to touch grass more often. Hence why I wouldn’t become a mod or create those subs

taladar, in What communities ("subreddits") would you like to see?

Talesfromtechsupport and the other tales subreddits were always great.

I will miss Hybrid Animals too.

Strae, in What's a movie (or series) that lies about its genre?

Stalker by Tarkovsky. The description made it sound like a really cool sci-fi/fantasy, bleak adventure movie. Instead it was just a bunch of melodramatic philosophy. Pretty much nothing even remotely sci-fi happens.

Presumably there would be a cache on Mars of !news so that anybody who wants to view it would not have to wait 10 minutes.. they would get the cached update - so they would immediately see the community as it was 10 minutes ago.

This cache would be continuously updating so to the user on Mars, there actually isn't that much disruption. Every time they check, there would be updates.

10 minutes or even 40 minutes is not that long in the grand scheme of things. We start talking about lightyears is when I think it starts to break down.

This one is a hard one, but so many of my favorite podcast subreddits aren't available here for sending in memes and OC. Miss those communities.
