I do, but not nearly as much. Probably spend about half the time if not less then before Apollo went down. Opening up GitHub to check on Voyager updates probably as often as I am opening up Reddit.
I use resilio, which is a peer to peer storage based on BitTorrent. I don’t remember syncthing’s base protocol, but it sounds like it meets the same goals.
Resilio offers apps for my phone, NAS, Mac, pc, etc. For my phone I use selective sync for a few key folders instead of the whole thing.
These don’t get me location redundancy unless I tuck another device offsite. Most people don’t have 2 secure enough locations for this.
This is gonna sound so fake it’s ridiculous, but at least it’s short. This was about a decade ago when I was about to go to college, so that factored into the setting, but the other part? No idea. Basically, I was riding around my college campus on the back of a raptor, saddle and all. I was having a blast, and everybody thought it was so cool that I had a badass dinosaur to ride around on, because obviously nobody else did. That was the whole dream, zero plot, nobody got eaten, just me and my raptor buddy having a grand ol’ time stomping around campus.
Try to always have something coming up to look forward to. Whether it’s a hang out with friends, a concert, a trip to a park, whatever. Keep a calendar and stick with it even on the days when you’re not really feeling up to it. Bonus points if you’re trying something you’ve never done before. New experiences are really good at getting you out of your head and being more mindful.
I used reddit pretty much exclusively on my phone through the Boost app. When that went dark, I didn’t really feel the need to go out of my way to download a far worse app, so I stopped checking reddit.
Relay still works for me, same with Infinity. I’m maybe 50/50 right now. There’s a lot of smaller communities that will be hard to grow here, but the big ones are just as good.
I’m able to guess plot points in movies before they happen. This includes guessing how the kid keeps the family from eating the meal in Troll 2 and guessing the kind of sword Excalibur was in Sharknado 6.
Ah yes, my ADHD ass will just magically find this focus thing you speak of instead of the long and brutal process of finding the right combination of meds and therapy. Problem solved. /s
Seems to be the case for most mental ailments. It’s hard for some people to grasp that other people experience life completely differently. It took me a long time and some very patient people to finally teach me that.
I have a very progressive siblings who is very pro-mental health and all that, but she never fails to mention how “those meds are so bad for you!” Yeah. I mean… I guess. The alternative is me being unable to care for myself. But whatever.
“Try exercising!”
Cool, I’d do that if my brain didn’t confine me to my bed for 18 hours without meds.
People just. don’t. get it. And they need to acknowledge that they don’t. It’s fine!! Just don’t try to act like we’re on the same level playing field. We’re not!
Cool, I’d do that if my brain didn’t confine me to my bed for 18 hours without meds.
Is that what that is? I’m in my 40s and trying to get diagnosed, and the possible ADHD has got worse over the last few years. I’ve gone through periods of weeks where I’m really struggling to get out of bed, and they coincide with each other.
Depression is also a condition that can cause this. Get a full health screening before you go fully looking into a diagnosis, but definitely keep it in mind if, physically, things turn up normal.
Also keep in mind that depression & anxiety can be comorbid with ADHD, which can often lead to frustrating misdiagnosis and being put onto medications that may not work quote right (if you choose to go that route). Hell, I’ve been told that “[you] don’t have ADHD – it’s trauma! PTSD!” As if the constant invalidatation of my condition wasn’t one of the reasons in part that led to my mistreatment and development of PTSD.
I hope that you are able to get answers soon and have things improve!
Agreed, also people need to know how literal having “poor mental health” is. The margin you have for extra load or bad things happening is so much smaller. Similar to how an unexpected bill will be shoulder shrug for someone with good economy and a disaster for someone with bad economy.
Oh yes, such as “just form good habits”…
Sorry, I’m incapable of making habits.
Or “think how good it will feel when you’re done”.
Sorry, best I can do is feel enough anxiety over not having done the thing that it will outweigh the anxiety I feel regarding doing the thing".
And if you’re really “lucky” it turns into PDA, “pathological demand avoidance” or as I prefer to call it “pervasive drive for autonomy”. Worst case you enter fight or flight mode due to any demands on you. My feeling is that it’s a understandable reaction to the feelings of anxiety demands have pushed on you over the years.
I once went to work, did all my normal work routines- Went to meetings, filled out my time sheet, requested time off for the holidays, rejected some code, etc. When I got back home I suddenly woke up and was pissed because now I had to actually go to work and do all that shit hahaha
I was searching for a fix for some MS bullshit and clicked on a link that had a good answer… and lo and behold, Reddit. “Came for the cats, stayed for the empathy.” Yes, they still have that on the banner. Lol!!
I deleted my account during the “strike”, and this was my first time back. I couldn’t upvote the poster, and for a second that made me sad.
So there’s several high caliber films I’ve seen a bunch, like Pulp Fiction, Memento, etc… but I think the actual movie I’ve seen the most times is The Room.
For the uninitiated, The Room is the worst movie of all time. Tommy Wiseau wrote, produced, directed, and starred in this disasterpiece. It’s so bad, they made a movie about the book about the making of The Room. It’s like watching a train wreck in slow motion for 90 minutes.
I’ve been responsible for many people’s first viewings, which means I’ve seen it far, far more than I should. I almost got to meet Tommy and Greg (plays Tommy’s best friend in film) at a screening but icy ass rain made the trek too dangerous.
I’d say it’s a must see for anyone who enjoys film. Every other movie will feel better after comparing it to this flaming bag of garbage. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and you’ll say “wtf” at least 7 times.
Oh snap, that would be fun to rip through! Read the book a while back and had a proper hoot with it. Dude has so many stories after bombing around with ol’ Tommy
