Thunder was pretty snappy. I didn’t know about that one, so I tried it just now. I’m afraid to say I think I like Liftoff better still, because Thunder uses swipe gestures for a few things and is missing a few “top” sorts, but it seemed like it has potential.
It didn’t have top sorting at all a few versions ago 😅
Theres a dozen of us contributing to it every day, it’s coming along very nicely, and making it usable without the gestures is a current focus. It’s already possible with posts, but next up are comments.
Keep it in mind! Check back a bit later and I’m sure you’ll be impressed.
Cool, thanks for the update! Coincidentally, Liftoff put gestures with no option to turn them off in their latest release, so I’ve been a little unsatisfied about that. I’ll try Thunder again.
The play store release is a huge deal too. Ngl that I probably wouldn’t have used Thunder if I had to manually update it from github for each new release.
Yes (Lemmy), replaced it about two weeks ago. I only visit Reddit for super niche stuff while logged out and using an as locker with the old subdomain. I will never upvote or reply to a topic on there ever again.
I’m using Liftoff until Boost (formerly Boost for Reddit) releases their app. Boost was an amazing experience on Reddit so I have to imagine it’ll be equally good with Lemmy. So far Liftoff has been very good though. No real complaints but would love to see more customization options in the future.
Though, my Lemmy illiteracy has lead me to make an account per instance. So I have one here, .world and nsfw. Is it possible to go on different instances with the same account?
I will be if I can get a good app to use on my phone. I’d also love to see some qol features like RES offers for my browser. But I am enjoying it so far!
Not OP but I’m finding it more intuitive. I come from RIF and I feel the experience is similar to that. I was spending a ton of time on Jerboa just figuring out where the heck things were.
I lived on a boat for many years and most of those at commercial fishing docks. Someone left a 5 gallon bucket of anchovies out in front of their boat on the dock for a couple days - with the cover on. I was present when it was opened. PTSD level bad.
I once left a plastic tub of bird seed next to the shed one winter. Something chewed it’s way through the plastic, got stuck and died. Since there was now a hole the rain turned it into a weird soup that I discovered during the hot summer. I can’t even imagine the smell if that was anchovies, it was bad enough as it was.
It immediately replaced connect for me. Absolutely incredible. I think I’ll have to pick around for some actual feedback, but that’s a damn good sign so early.
Love the layout, organization and it’s immediately captured my entire Lemmy usage.
The big thing with any Reddit alternative is what kind of community is migrating over there. A lot of controversies Reddit has had in the past have centered around vocally discriminatory communities migrating to a new platform after Reddit has decided their content does not align with their views and goals as a company.
Fatpeoplehate, the_donald, probably jailbait I imagine (though before my time on the site thankfully).
The one exception I would say would be the uncerwmonious firing of Victoria from AMA which caused an uproar and led to AMA’s never really feeling the same. I didn’t think about leaving then, but I understood the anger and concept of reddit slowly losing its identity in favour of a more corporate one. Ironically Reddit’s latest decision has led to AMA opening the flood gates to anyone and everyone, giving a more genuine feel to the community.
Now 3rd party apps being shut down (although revanced provides an alternative) has caused a general consensus it’s time to leave, fragmenting communities into different websites and platforms. I’ve encountered some hostility and opinions I personally disagree with on Lemmy, but overall the generalized community here is a good replacement, over a displeased and spiteful group that would fixate on one specific person or upset over one specific group of people. Perhaps thats just the nature of the fediverse overall where - if an admin of lemmy.ca decides to make us a proudboys affiliated network - I can just go elsewhere.
TL;DR Lemmy is all I need. It’s not voat, it can federate with kbin fine, and it’s open allowing anyone and everyone to have their say. I like Lemmy!
I’ve already deleted all of my posts and edited the comments to “FUCK YOU u/spez”. I didn’t delete the account because the little cunt has a reputation for editing user’s comments, I’m just gonna mass edit them from time to time to be sure.
I even changed out the email with an alias one literally saying “fuckyouspez@…” and that fucker hasn’t banned me yet.
tbf they’re pretty much all federated with each other still, there’s not a whole ton of exceptions. You’ve got the fascist and tankie kids, they’re defederated a good bit, and Beehaw defederated the two other big ones, due to bot accts if I remember right.
Basically anything asides world, ml (i think?), beehaw, lemmygrad or explodingheads.
You can google lemmymap, and you’ll get a visual representation that shows blocks. There’s also a couple websites that’ll give the info more accessibly, but I don’t recall them. Someone else will prob share one.
Beehaw initially couldn’t handle the influx of unvetted users with 4 admins so they defederated. It was early days. We may be refederated in the future.
