spaysi, in What series did you rewatch most often?

Chernobyl… I’ve rewatched it so many times my husband will ask me what I’m watching while he’s at work (I’m a SAHM) and when I don’t answer right away he knows I’ve got it on again 🤦🏽‍♀️😂 can’t watch it when he’s home cause he’s sick of it now hahaha 😝

MelancholikhPatata, (edited ) in What do you use Vaseline for?
@MelancholikhPatata@kbin.social avatar

I like putting vaseline on my lips overnight (it's best to apply it on damp lips)

200ok,

The damp part is key. It can lock in moisture, but can’t add any on its own.

Awwab, in Conventions for techies/nerds?
@Awwab@kbin.social avatar

Defcon

whileloop,
@whileloop@lemmy.world avatar

Yes, but I think Defcon is mostly for cybersecurity. I think OP is looking for something a bit more generalized.

knobbysideup,

“Hacking” == learning / sharing how things work. Sometimes to break them. But regardless it’s very relevant to op’s interests.

HobbitFoot,

Like learning to keep all of your electronics away from public access.

atlasraven31,

Can confirm that hackers are nerds. The less they need hardware to hack, the scarier they are.

LrdThndr, in How fluent do you think one have to be to be considered "bilingual"?

Judging by the text of your post alone, you’re bilingual.

Had you not said that English wasn’t your first language, I, a native English speaker, would never have know.

meiti,

Fun observation: as a native, just like many natives, you have made a grammer mistake. “have known” and not “have know”. Might be a typo though.

My fun theory is that grammer is just a form of heuristic made up by humans to simplify understanding languages.

I’m not a native.

LrdThndr,

Ah, dammit. Yeah, that was a typo :).

Zagorath,
@Zagorath@aussie.zone avatar

you have made a grammer mistake

I love a good case of Muphry’s Law.

*grammar

meiti,

Haha good catch!

Interesting_Test_814,

Muphry’s Law.

Was this one intentional ?

I think there are even a few grammatical errors that native english speaking people are more likely to be doing that us folks who learned it as a second language.
When I see things like “should of”, “would of”, “for all intensive purposes” it’s usually coming from a native speaker.
I think someone who learned speaking the language before first and writing it second is more likely to make these.
I assimilated “should”, “have” and “of” before I really used contractions, so I never make that mistake.
It’s even somewhat jarring to read.
should of… of what?

zzz711, in What's your favorite restaurant chain?

Chipotle

TheDubz87,

The chipotle/Qdoba near me has gone way too downhill in the past few years for me. The burritos used to be huge, now they’re the size of a small potato. Also 50% of the time they mess up my order and I don’t realize until I get home and open it up.

JoumanaKayrouz,
@JoumanaKayrouz@lemmy.world avatar

They suck now. Tiny ass burrito for like $12 and it takes forever. The service is always piss poor and they never get the order right.

ukcreation, in What series did you rewatch most often?

Parks and Recreation

DFTBA_FTW,

My fiance and I needed something to put on in the background that wouldn’t distract us while we worked late during a very busy week. We picked a random episode in season 2 and ended up re-watching the whole show over the course of 3 weeks.

WreckingBANG, in What's a good router for a home VPN?
@WreckingBANG@lemmy.ml avatar

I would recommend just using a RaspberryPi and host it yourself. I never had any issues and it was the most reliable way for me

thequickben,

I second this. Pivpn is very easy to setup.

Jerusalemspiderman, in should we be worried about powers-moderators/users?
@Jerusalemspiderman@lemdro.id avatar

It’s impossible here in any broad way. If an admin allowed it to go too far, they end up running off users, and possibly end up defederated if it gets really crazy.

There’s already duplicates of half the c/s out there, particularly among the reddit copies.

You might think that power admins could be the equivalent problem, but we’ve already seen problematic instances be defederated widely.

Pretty much every instance out there right now that has enough users to have power mods already has specific rules against going bonkers with moderation.

It’s a different system, a different culture, and the ultimate control is decentralized and distributed.

About the only people that could maybe upend that are the lemmy devs themselves, and it isn’t like lemmy is impossible to fork. I couldn’t do it, but there’s plenty of folks that can. And, let’s be real, those guys may be on the radical end of their political beliefs, but everything they’ve done so far points to them handling the project in a very socialist way. They could have forced the entire thing into an echo chamber instead of making it open source. They could have built in controls that would give them the ability to screw with instances remotely, but didn’t.

So, nah, power mods aren’t going to be a thing on lemmt any time soon. When it does happen, it’ll be on single instances and rapidly handled.

Hypx,
@Hypx@kbin.social avatar

@Jerusalemspiderman

@dunloap

That does mean we need many instances, and always be creating new ones. We should never settle on one instance. There should always be alternative versions of each sub/community/magazine, just in case power mods become insane at one of them.

Jerusalemspiderman,
@Jerusalemspiderman@lemdro.id avatar

Exactly :)

NotACube, in Which is the most satisfying IO connector system, in your opinion?

BNC connector, such a satisfying screw and click into place mechanism.

nickajeglin,

Agree. Twist lock always feels easy to do and secure.

Slackwise,
@Slackwise@lemmy.ml avatar

BNC is the one. No idea how this response is that far down and people are saying stuff like “USB-C”. I guess people have no experience with the wonder that is a BNC connector…

JoumanaKayrouz, in What's your favorite restaurant chain?
@JoumanaKayrouz@lemmy.world avatar

BD’s Mongolian BBQ. I’m not even sure they are around anymore though.

Im14abeer,

There’s still some around, but not nearly as many as there were. The one local to me closed and the nearest remaining one is like 20 miles away.

mihnt,
@mihnt@lemmy.world avatar

There’s one near me. All the others are on the opposite side of Detroit from me. (1hr+ drive away.)

I fucking love them too. Real life mini-game of how much shit can I stuff and pile into a bowl.

JoumanaKayrouz,
@JoumanaKayrouz@lemmy.world avatar

I think there’s one in Sterling Heights on M-59 still.

mihnt,
@mihnt@lemmy.world avatar

That’s the one near me.

szdt94, in In which game did you spend the most hours?

Dota 2. 7882 hrs

Sippa_Turnipsi,

6331 hours here. Maybe one day I will be good in that game.

PlasmaK, in Be honest, do you still use reddit?

If a search directs me there or if there is some news that I really need to check. I have abandoned the account.

berkat, in Am I too stupid or is Lemmy not working? Different experience logged in vs. logged out

While not the purpose of this community, make sure you go into your lemmy settings and have any languages you want enabled. The UI isn’t very clear so also make sure “undetermined” is selected along any other languages you’d like to see.

0x4E4F,
@0x4E4F@lemmy.fmhy.ml avatar

This is most likely the reason why you’re seing only 1 post when logged in. Have Undetermined selected in Settings and always post as Undetermined, no matter wich language you post in.

FauxPseudo, in What movie did you rewatch most often?
@FauxPseudo@lemmy.world avatar

On Facebook I collect posts like this as a demonstration of how seemingly harmless questions are the answers to security questions. This one is basically code for “What is your favorite movie.”

redballooon,

Next up “what’s your favorite mother’s maiden name?”

diskmaster23,

ALottaPussy

Knightfall,
@Knightfall@lemmy.ca avatar

It’s because of those Facebook surveys I never choose those questions.

ChrisFhey, in What are some of the things you say / think to yourself when going through a hard time or dealing with uncertainty to help yourself along?
@ChrisFhey@kbin.social avatar

I don’t have anything special really. Just an “It is what it is” and try to get through regardless.
