vd1n, in What series did you rewatch most often?

Dateline, murder never gets old!

Plus the hosts… Dying old guy, disheveled divorced looking guy, and the fluzey blonde!

(Sarcasm but datelines a classic)

Zozano, in Those who tried Linux and went back to Windows, what caused you to go back to Windows?
@Zozano@aussie.zone avatar

I dualboot both.

Windows for games with anti-cheat.

Linux for everything else. EndeavourOS is my darling.

patchw3rk, in What series did you rewatch most often?
@patchw3rk@kbin.social avatar

The Last Kingdom.

I can't quite put my finger on it but the series really keeps me watching.

Hello2JasonIsaacs, in What series did you rewatch most often?

Buffy, The Sopranos and Succession are probably my most rewatched. And Friends was on TV constantly when I was growing up, I must’ve seen each episode at least 10 times.

obi_one, in What series did you rewatch most often?

The office, parks and rec, firefly (that might be cheating since it’s not that many episodes), game of thrones before it went of the rails.

luthis, in What series did you rewatch most often?

South park and Its Always Sunny. Sunny is so good.

inattentive_person, in What series did you rewatch most often?

Modern Family, Brooklyn 99, Impractical Jokers, Parks and Rec, Sarabhai vs Sarabhai in no particular order

ada, in Those who tried Linux and went back to Windows, what caused you to go back to Windows?
@ada@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

My pattern with linux is that I tinker with it until I eventually break it in a way I don’t have the knowledge or skill to repair, and then I balk at the thought of starting from scratch again, so I just put windows back on the machine…

Zozano,
@Zozano@aussie.zone avatar

This is very easily mitigatable.

Set your root and home partitions seperately. Keep a text file of all the applications you install (preferably as a script).

When you break it, reinstall the OS, and relink the home partition. Run the script to reinstall your applications. Done.

Certainly takes less time than reinstalling Windows or even asking it to fix itself.

Use a decentralized SearXNG instance and have it query every search engine that exists on the internet, or host your own of you're really actually worried about privacy, and never look back.

hypna,

I just tried two of the instances listed with a search for “how to filter mineral spirits”, and they both gave me errors. Both Google and DDG gave me an answer. Is there some trick I’m missing here?

sam,
@sam@lemmy.ca avatar

The instances get overloaded quickly and the IPs blocked by google/Microsoft/etc… Better off self-hosting.

DRx,
@DRx@lemmy.world avatar

+1 for SearXNG… I run my own instance in docker, and host it through a cloud flare tunnel. I set all my “web browser bars” on all my devices to auto use its address, so I don’t even have to think about it, and all my searches are auto routed through my instance. It’s Great!

KLISHDFSDF,
@KLISHDFSDF@lemmy.ml avatar

+1 for SearXNG. I’ve personally found mostly better results, for my use cases, than Google or duckduckgo, although I keep DDG as a backup.

mim,

SearXNG is great.

I think the features I’m missing are easily adding more engines (haven’t looked much into it), and automatically blacklisting domains from coming up in searches.

Skyrmir, in Those who tried Linux and went back to Windows, what caused you to go back to Windows?

Every few years I try Linux again. At this point I’ve decided that when I can install linux, and use all of my hardware/software without having to open a terminal window, I’ll try it again. Until then, I only use it when I’m paid to.

xtapa,

Try Tumbleweed then. It has yast and will cover the important stuff you’d probably do in console otherwise.

Just out of curiosity: What’s your problem with the terminal?

Confused_Scallup,

Terminal is too much effort. I just want a pc that works with out me needing to do what I already do at work

Skyrmir,

If I have to open a terminal just to get up and running, the UI has failed. If something that basic has failed, there are other much larger problems to deal with still. None of which I want to deal with.

Also I’ve spent 40 years working in various versions of dos and PowerShell interfaces, and there’s enough difference with all nix type interfaces that I don’t want to deal with swapping back and forth. I do that enough with the programming languages I use every day that it’s a constant annoyance.

olorin99, in What series did you rewatch most often?
@olorin99@kbin.social avatar

I usually end up with community playing in the background while I'm working on something else. No idea how many times I've rewatched it.

godless, in What movie did you rewatch most often?
@godless@latte.isnot.coffee avatar

The Boondock Saints or The Matrix for me, both way over a dozen times.

Xylinna,
@Xylinna@lemmy.world avatar

So many good lines/references in Boondock Saints between the rope, the cat, and Willem Dafoe. Fantastic movie, sequels were kinda of meh.

ralC, in What are your favorite "ugly" games?

I haven’t played it, but Cruelty Squad beats 95% of these in uglyness. Probably because they (hopefully) do it on purpose.

Mr_Buscemi,
@Mr_Buscemi@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

That game is beautifully ugly lol. I need to go back and beat all the secret worlds

jecxjo, in What series did you rewatch most often?
@jecxjo@midwest.social avatar

American Dad up to the point that Seth stopped writing for it and then I restart. It is one of my background noise shows. King of the Hill is the filler cartoon to not start the loop instantly.

Star Trek TNG and TOS for scifi

Oh and i watch Forensic Files enough that i can typically remember who did it within the intro. Similar to the original Law and Order.

zemon, in What is the least SEO-fucked search engine?

I use Swisscows and Metager, and usually find what I need, if I don’t I retry the query with Startpage.
