Nah deleted my acct like a month ago

squidsarefriends, in What are your favorite "ugly" games?

I second Stone Soup and FTL! Both amazing, but ugly. Also:

  • The Binding of Isaac
  • Slay the Spire
  • Mario 64
AlternateRoute,

Slay the spire is kind of a style choice. Dev art mode is bad however and kinda funny lol.

sLLiK,

I didn’t expect to find a Stone Soup entry so early in the list. It’s perfect for me because I can just spawn a new window inside my tmux session, type soup, hit enter, and etch-a-sketch my brain for a few minutes.

Atomic123, in In which game did you spend the most hours?

I have 1000+ hours in Forza Horizon 4 & 5, mainly due to weekly FOMO (new car every Thursday).

@euj2EUVtuwrch4edp@kbin.social avatar

I've been using https://www.ecosia.org/ because they plow some of their profits into planting trees. They use bing results and I generally find what I need quickly.

Hextic, in What are your favorite "ugly" games?

Kenshi came to mind as that’s a butt ugly game but probably not as “hidden”. Graphics look on par with Empire Earth 1 zoomed in but it’s really unique and original and the low poly look helps it run on my aging PC so no complaints.

Do you know if there is a good lemmy community for discussing Kenshi? I was about to go on a huge tangent about my experience with the game and stopped myself because this comment section probably isn’t the right place. ^^;;

Hextic,

I don’t know I’m new and still finding stuff. Also I’ve only scratched the surface of Kenshi ATM but if you do find one post it and I’ll join too.

rm_dash_r_star, in What movie did you rewatch most often?
@rm_dash_r_star@lemm.ee avatar

There’s a good set of movies I rewatch a lot so I can’t say which is most often, but I’ll pick a couple.

The first Matrix movie is up there for me. I think it’s the best one and I’ve rewatched it the most. I’ve rewatched the following two, but not as much. I thought the fourth one was weird and produced too late so not going to watch that one again.

There’s an obscure movie called Hunter Prey (2010) that I’ve rewatched a lot. It’s a low budget sci-fi, but it’s almost like a play with limited settings, just a handful of actors, and limited special effects. I really like the story, actors, and setting plus the music is good. Probably most people would think it’s shit, but sometimes a low budget film can really nail it for me.

Num10ck, in What is the least SEO-fucked search engine?

duckduckgo.com only had 2 ads that were clearly identified when I just tried it. no idea how manipulated the rest of it is.

substill,

Duck Duck Go search results are a little lacking, though, like it’s completely missing some possibilities. Looking up tech stuff for a Linux issue I’m having, Duck will miss a site that Google finds - and even if I enter the exact text of the site, it’s completely absent from Duck.

sock,

i gotta use duck duck go on my work laptop. no sugarcoat its dogshit google is still better even tho google is getting worse

erogenouswarzone,
@erogenouswarzone@lemmy.ml avatar

I really want to like DuckDuckGo, but the results are never right. I always end up going back to Google. But I’m a professional programmer, so it might be different for me.

biscuitsofdeath, in Be honest, do you still use reddit?

Nope

candle_lighter, in Can I use Google Play without a Sim card?
@candle_lighter@lemmy.ml avatar

As long as the device has Google Play services

elkaki, in What are your favorite "ugly" games?

I would say Kenshi with assests that show it was done by one person and a rough UI, also maybe pathologic 2, although for that game I wouldn’t say it’s the graphics that put people off it’s mostly the gameplay, but the geaphics are weird and really grey/depressive

AceFuzzLord, in What are your favorite "ugly" games?

From the games I can recall, Anuto TD (Another Ugly Tower Defense).

I cannot say whether or not it would get attention because of the graphic quality, but I know there are plenty of people who wouldn’t play it since it is not 8k super ultra 3D high def masterwork quality graphics and would gladly shit on it because it doesn’t have the most realistic graphics out there.

zeekaran, in What are your "weirdest" pizza toppings or other weird food combos?

I had a kimchi pizza in Golden, CO and it was great.

soupspoon,

He was our interpreter

zeekaran,

soupspoon,

Futurama, Cold Warriors

alternative_factor, in How do you cheer yourself up after a rough day? Or a rough year?
@alternative_factor@kbin.social avatar

Honestly when I feel my worst I enjoy comforting media, but what's a very bizzare and unethical bad habit of mine is reading stuff people with worse lives than me post online (I never interact with them- prime directive!). I know it's wrong and voyeuristic but it always makes me grateful for how comparatively together I am.

Dinodicchellathicc,

Now you’re interacting with me! Does it harsh your mellow?

alternative_factor,
@alternative_factor@kbin.social avatar

LOL! No it helped cheer me up honestly.

squidman64, in Those who tried Linux and went back to Windows, what caused you to go back to Windows?

I got tired of having to endlessly maintain it, vs windows which generally just works (no fighting with audio drivers, wifi drivers, gpu drivers, suspend to disk works without glitching, etc) and i like playing video games without having to deal with wine. Still run linux on servers, and my work desktop and laptop are linux since we have an IT department which maintains it for me.

squidman64,

Oh also windows has handled high DPI monitors and mixed DPI multi monitor setups perfectly for a decade or more, I think linux only more recently started handling it ok and it’s still got quirks.

MrMeatballGuy,

I think the experience depends a lot on what ditros you’re using and your hardware configuration. I started out on Manjaro and that ran terribly for me, then i went on to Linux Mint which i liked a lot and that was solid, but since i got a new GPU i needed a distro with a newer kernel which made me switch to Pop!_os and that is also running great. But i won’t deny that audio was a bit flakey on Mint for me until i messed with it, seems solid on Pop though.

SkyNTP, in Those who tried Linux and went back to Windows, what caused you to go back to Windows?

It’s more of a “why do I keep Windows on my main machine and only use Linux for my servers?”

The answer is two-fold

a) most of my games and a (dwindling) amount of productivity software are windows based. I know things are improving… But the fact remains that I am still literally invested in some software that is only supported on Windows (that pile is shrinking).

b) there are a few everyday tasks that are still just too frustrating to be practical for non-technical people. For example, why in the fuck do I need to deal with user and mod permissions for files on an external harddrive? I get why for system files, but for media files on an external drive? It’s a level of pedantry I’m just not ready to deal with.

turbochamp,

I don’t know what productivity software you might be using, but I want to point out some that are on Linux that people might think they aren’t:

Zoom, Slack, VSCode, Microsoft Teams, OpenVPN, Chrome, Firefox, Brave, Libre Office, Open Office, PostgreSQL, MongoDB

Not productivity:

Steam, Discord, Spotify, Plex, Jellyfin

Alisu,

That’s almost exactly my problems with Linux. Adobe is what holds me back the most, a few games that I play also don’t run, and dualbooting has been really annoying. Also, audio drivers, audio problems drive me nuts, and the solutions are absolutely bonkers complex weird setting stuff, specially becaus I’m using a laptop. That said, I love Linux and open-source software, just can’t afford the compromises.
