valdemar, in How often do you brush your teeth?

I only ever brush before going to bed, never in the mornings.

I probably started doing this around 6-8 years ago, and have had no problems at my annual check-ups.

Genuinely feel for people who have to spend time in enclosed spaces with you.

Congratulations for winning the genetic lottery with the robustness of your teeth, but brushing is also about hygiene. Body odour isn’t physically bad for you, but it is for everyone who has to be near you. Same with your breath.

Thorry84, (edited )

Dude your breath probably smells and people are too polite to tell you.

On your tongue there are a lot of anaerobic microbes (on everybody’s tongue, it isn’t a hygiene thing, they just live there). When you have your mouth closed for a long time, it creates a oxygen poor environment and these microbes thrive in that. They cause bad breath, so after people sleep or simply have their mouth closed for a while, the breath starts to stink. If you look in a mirror and your tongue has a kinda white or brownish tinge, this is because of the microbes. Everybody should brush their teeth and especially their tongue after sleeping. When looking in a mirror the tongue should be entirely pink and look healthy. Clean the tongue as far back as you can, to prevent bad breath.

If you smoke this isn’t true, your breath will stink no matter what.

So for your teeth it probably won’t matter much not brushing in the mornings, but for your breath it matters a lot.

Twice a day, and if I need to freshen up.

Doctormurder, in I'm being harassed by mosquitoes, how do i kill them all?

Imo the easiest option: fly screens everywhere. Especially in bedroom and keep this door closed so they won’t get in (in case they come through other doors)

I no longer have issues with them and if I ever see one, I just use my electric fly swatter. I also can’t sleep when there’s one in the room.

Fly screens are totally worth it. Self made might be cheaper, but I’m not cerrain since I didn’t do them myself.

Easy, make a gene drive for a recessive gene that causes infertility, problem solved.

Don’t you want a dominant gene? Anyway, if you want to know more watch: Unnatural Selection, Episode 3. It’s on Netflix and worth a watch, it discusses gene drive in detail.

Usually 2x a day, when I get up and when I go to bed.

_haha_oh_wow_, in Do you think there will be a future where your phone can automatically detect if you are trying to record police activity and disables your camera? What do you think the odds of this happening is?
@_haha_oh_wow_@sh.itjust.works avatar

This seems like it would probably be trivial to defeat either via legacy tech or simply by removing/disabling the receiver, interrupting the signal itself, hacking the firmware, etc.

Police could try to counter this by using lights (either visible or anything a camera’s sensor can pick up) to blind the cameras, but then people could also start doing stuff like using polarizing filters to minimize this, hiding cameras, or some other more clever method I’m not smart enough to think of.

fidodo,

Doesn’t need to be 100% bullet proof to be highly effective at suppressing accountability though. Yes people will be able to get around it but the benefit of everyone having a phone is that it’s ubiquitous. Everyone has a phone so if there’s anyone in the vicinity of police committing a crime it can be recorded. With all those extra steps you listed, the number of people who will go through the trouble will be a small fraction of the current phone user base now.

Yes, the official Reddit app makes me want to puke.

tarsn,

I hate that thing with a passion. All that energy spent on making those awful snoo avatars and shit. Just disgusting

Dual wield those electric tennis rackets?

If you’re talking about a particular area, using fans can help push mosquitoes away.

If you’re mobile, use DEET on your skin and permethrin on your clothes and your dog’s fur.

Yes i have basically replaced Reddit at this point, other than if google search comes up with something I need.

ViciousTurducken, in Liftoff. Lemmy app. Do you like the way it works now?

The UI is a little too cluttered and messy for my liking but it’s a solid app! Love FOSS software

I love free and open source software software, too! 😉

If you are in the woods, permitherin is the best option.

If you are just sitting around the patio, just set up a fan.

The community reddit had was really good. I hope it is replicated here. I wonder is there is a way to transfer some of the reddit data here?

n0m4n, in Where do you go on Lemmy for reliable news and politics?

This doesn’t ask your question, but this may be of useful to people, anyway.

I’ve just joined ground.news, a pay site. The great part about this site is that it rates news as to left, center, or right leaning, and rates the “factuality” of the sites. Filtering out non-factual knocks out a large part of the outlier’s lies, and shows who the people are, who push them. like knowing the players pushing their agenda. One caveat is that some that push lies still slide through by quoting the people who spout lies without disclaimers of the reliabilty of their false claims. One rule of thumb that I find helpful is that I mentally filter out any pleas to emotionalism. Manipulating readers/viewers emotionally is the opposite of informing. Sites that try to be centrist and ignore whether the sources are reliable about facts, end up being half lies or propagandsa. It is useful to keep in mind that blatently propaganda sites work in some truth to give themselves some plausibility. Only the highest reliable news are worth letting in to your news sphere.

This is a worldwide problem as paid propagandaists muddy the news sphere. Welcome to our cyber warfare world.
