Summzashi, in How often do you brush your teeth?

When I wake up. Once a day. Never had issues, breath smells fine etc. Guess I’m blessed with great tooth genes.

ProtonBadger,

I always wondered whether it’s flora and fauna dependent to some extent, so some people have bacteria that don’t damage the teeth and other have the nasty ones and have a constant battle.

Summzashi,

I’ve been a massive slut for a couple of years. I wonder if it was possible to pass those germs on.

Sev,
@Sev@feddit.uk avatar

I’m 80% once a day [night time] and touch wood, only ever had one filling needed and that was back in 2009. Bro sciencing it but I chalk it up to drinking a lot of water and shlooshing my mouth out after meals, especially if i’ve had orange juice, ice cream or other not good for teeth stuff. A bit of gum maybe too, but I don’t know how much of BigGum fills our heads with random fake science.

I did have a ‘uh-oh’ phase a few months ago where my teeth were super sensitive, but some Sensodyne, mouthwash and twice daily sorted it out and now i’m fine again…and back to my old habits lol; enamel must of taken a lil beating.

Dentist says things are always fine, so I just keep it up /shrug

mrcranky, in What's the hottest and coldest temperature you've ever been in?

-45°C in central Alberta in the 90’s, +45° C in California in the 80’s.

Mine’s about the same range, but both in Alberta

yads,

I don’t think there’s anywhere in Alberta that gets above 40

SilentStorms,
@SilentStorms@lemmy.fmhy.ml avatar

Not regularly, but if I remember correctly it was a record-breaking 43 about 10 or so years ago

Laticauda,

I’ve seen Alberta get above 40C in rare cases.

Crit_D, in I need to survive for 3 days without pooping, and eating as little as possible. I can pee, but not very often. It can't take up too much space. What food do I pack?

I came to Lemmy as a substitute for Reddit, and I'm impressed at how little time it took to reach the high-quality posts that Reddit was known for.

zurohki,

Your comment made me put down my phone and laugh out loud until someone came and checked that I was alright.

It's not just OPs strange and mysterious predicament that has made this thread epic, but also the genuine efforts of some of us to help OP in the midst of wild, off the wall, guessing.

And then there's the misplaced reply that ended up in the perfect place.

And I'm glad to have seen it first hand.

mvirts, in What are the best fediverse alternatives to youtube?

Peertube for sure. Seems to work great whenever I try it, but I’m not a political extremist or European so most of the instances I’ve come across aren’t interesting to me. I would recommend starting your own instance, but also YouTube is YouTube because they actually pay creators if that’s something you’re looking for.

richyawyingtmv, in Does anyone actually enjoy working out?

I walk, a lot. Everywhere. Always have done.

It keeps me nice and slim, and is my way of dealing with stress and any thoughts I may have swishing around in my head. I live in an area that allows me to walk anywhere I want (ie. not America) and I don’t need a car at all, luckily.

And I do push it a bit. I walked 36km which is around 21 miles on Sunday, and 32km on Saturday. My legs were starting to hurt like hell nearing the end of it but I always keep going. It feels good to push past what I thought was my limit and keep going. I don’t think there’s any real conscious thought behind it, it’s just how I am. And as I’m in the office today, I’ll be walking there and back too (5 miles each way), no bother at all.

Running and weight lifting though? Not my thing. Too much rushing around for the former and not enough moving around for the latter!

Edit: realised my conversion to miles is off. It’s early. Turns out according to Google maps I walked 21 miles Sunday…! Took just under 5 hours. And I did get a bit sunburnt, but otherwise fine as usual

xkforce, in What's the hottest and coldest temperature you've ever been in?

richneptune, in What is something you think leftists are not ready to hear but need to hear it?

I say this as someone who considers themselves a leftist…

The lack of civility shown by left leaning people online is almost certainly pushing moderates into more extreme communities and the unhinged takes are perfect meme fodder for those with a bad agenda. Instead of channeling your anger at the person you’re corresponding with through your keyboard, channel it at a lack of empathy and understanding in society as a whole and respond with kindness and disengage when the conversation is not honest.

Repeat above for the use of “nazi”. The use of the word has become devalued because people like to fling it at folks with milquetoast centrist opinions, save it for people who are legitimately evil.

Yup, I said the same thing to people around me, when the use of the word “fascist” became a thing in my country. Even clearly moderate opponents were being called fascists left and right. I told people around me that the word would lose its meaning and power. That’s exactly what happened, and when an actual fascist came up, you had nothing against him and its supporters transformed the term into a joke.

impulse, in What's the hottest and coldest temperature you've ever been in?

Coldest was probably -20 °C, hottest around 40 °C.

My comfort temperature is right around 15 °C. Anything higher than 20 °C and I start sweating.

My girlfriend wants to go to Egypt for vacation this year. That’s going to be fun…

matty_ice, in What's the hottest and coldest temperature you've ever been in?

Hottest was about 56C when I ran the Badwater race through Death Valley. Coldest was about -27 when I was in Idaho…tried to jog that day too but couldn’t take the burn in my lungs.

foggy, (edited ) in Why is youtube recommending conservative "talking points" to me?

It sees you like standup comedy (POTENTIALLY ANTI-WOKE) and gaming (POTENTIALLY INCEL) and in your 30s (LIKELY HAS SOME DISPOSABLE INCOME)

So it’s pipelining you to the annals of YouTube that check those boxes, have very good viewer retention and have good user engagement.

The ones with good user engagement are the ones that raise your blood pressure. They make you angry. So, politics, or dirty cops, interrogations, murder stories, stuff like that.

You can resist them all you want, but stuff that makes people angry and chatty and commenty and re-watchy is like cocaine to the algorithm. It makes them money, so they spam it everywhere it even remotely makes sense to try to get you stuck in their quicksand.

DarkMatter_contract,

Could be they are using k-nearest neighbors, and op bracket fit into those content.

ScrimbloBimblo,

This is the real answer. It’s easy to forget that for most people who are famous for their unusual political views, most of their overall content has nothing to do with that. There’s something about politics that can turn even the most open-minded of individuals into raging idealogues.

It’s hilarious to me that Joe Rogan is now known for his like 3 conservative views when I mostly remember him as the guy who hosted Fear Factor, did every drug known to man, interviewed scientists in every field out there, and did that really popular interview with Bernie Sanders a couple years ago.

The point is that every hobby and niche interest has someone who gets way too hung up on one particular issue and devotes way too much time to talking about it, dragging the whole community down with them.

kia, (edited ) in What's the hottest and coldest temperature you've ever been in?

Hottest: 37°C

Coldest: -25°C (-40°C with windchill)
