newpuritan, in What do you use Vaseline for?

Lubricating the O ring that sits inside the watch case of vintage divers watches to keep them waterproof.

makanimike,

isn’t that not good, because it is petroleum based and will cause the rubber seal to disintegrate faster?

honkeymorpheus,

Most O-rings are made with a material called “Buna-N” (Nitrile), which is not degraded by oils, greases, or common fuels

makanimike,

like the gloves?
cool! TIL!

kestrel99, in Should an altruistic organ donor be allowed to restrict their donation to a specific group of people? (e.g. women, gingers)

Certainly not.

ChrissieWF, in In which game did you spend the most hours?

Dunno if counts as a game really… But about 4k hrs of VRChat - love the place and the friends I made there!

interdimensionalmeme, in Should an altruistic organ donor be allowed to restrict their donation to a specific group of people? (e.g. women, gingers)

No, if it became a tool of power it would cease to be an altruistic donation

PoetSII, in What movie did you rewatch most often?

As a kid I spent probably a week sitting under a table in my room, rewatching A New Hope on a portable dvd player over and over and over. I thought that I should watch it until I had every line memorized, and then move onto ESB (which I never did for obvious reasons)

So probably ANH, followed by any other SW movie, then Mad Max Fury Road and Sicario

hsl, in What are some useful or just cool stuff to memorize?

Thirty days has September, April, June, and November.

frogfruit,

My school taught it as “30 days hath September, April, June, and November. All the rest have 31, except the second month alone.”

Notyou,

I always just used the knuckle trick for counting. The ones that have 31 days are at the top of the knuckle and the 30 (or 28/9) day months are in between the knuckles.

Deelala0516,

This is definitely the way.

penguin_in_suit,

With 28 there is only one All the other are thirty one

My mom taught me this limerick when I was little.

cccc, in What are some of the things you say / think to yourself when going through a hard time or dealing with uncertainty to help yourself along?

I used to be pretty negative and aggressive until I realised that if I talked to anyone else the way talked to myself I would get hit.

Now I’m simple and encouraging. Generally a nice little “come on” followed by a simple “you’ll get through it”, “not long now”, “you can do it”, “it’ll be alright”. That sort of thing. If I ever had a coach for anything that’s how I’d want to be pushed.

livus, in What's the benefit of using Kbin over Lemmy?
@livus@kbin.social avatar

Why I joined

  • had a more intuitive interface
  • had a better aesthetic
  • had a much cooler name
  • the dev seemed like a cool guy
  • before federation it felt exciting like being on the ground floor of something

Why I stayed

  • has heaps of cool features and functions that are easy to use
  • I like the Mastodon interface too
  • turns out the dev definitely is awesome and everything is very open
  • it has a really chill community
  • I still just like it more than the various Lemmys
ME5SENGER_24, in What movie did you rewatch most often?

Groundhog Day, Wedding Crashers, Zombieland and then 2 odd Disney movies would be Luca and Coco

sunbeam60,

I bet it felt like Groundhog Day watching that film over and over.

At least once a year this one is a must.

Dirk, in How fluent do you think one have to be to be considered "bilingual"?
@Dirk@lemmy.ml avatar

If you can switch mid-sentence to another language and continue the conversation on native speaker level.

HipPriest, in What's the benefit of using Kbin over Lemmy?

I tried both, lurked a while and Kbin just seemed a bit more user friendly for me. Nothing deeper for me, just a matter of taste really.

Cabrio, (edited ) in Which is the most satisfying IO connector system, in your opinion?

BNC RG59 twist on, locking coaxial connector. The RG59 form factor is the pinnacle of locking cable connector form factors and should be implemented universally.

barryamelton,

some connectors are designed to break easily. RG59 would not break, the device would break. Hence why one finds in middle connections.

Cabrio,

Yes, some devices are not engineered or manufactured adequately to support the superior form factor that is RG59. Weakness is not permitted.

HorrorSpirit, in How fluent do you think one have to be to be considered "bilingual"?
@HorrorSpirit@lemmy.ml avatar

The entire idea of “knowing” a language is a complete mess. When do you know that you know? There are only two languages i can confidently say i am fluent in yet i know bits and pieces of random other languages, sometimes enough to follow simple conversation, and i taught myself to read some foreign scripts for fun despite not knowing the language(s) they are used to write.
