Birdcatname, in What's your favorite restaurant chain?

Dunkin. I don’t really like many chain restaurants. I prefer local places. But Dunkin is pretty consistent with their coffee.

Lolors17, in What's a big tech product that you actually find useful?

Samsung TV.

mc_zodiac_pimp,

I’m glad you’ve had good luck with your Samsung TV. We have a Q60 and I absolutely despise it. I can’t wait to get rid of it. Apple TV had made it useable, so I’ll probably stick with it until it dies. My problem with it is the OS. It’s absolutely garbage in my opinion, and slow as hell.

Wishing a good future for yours!

Lolors17,

My TV is very old, it only has 1080p with 50 hertz. I don’t usw the OS of the TV itself very offen, but what I can say is that, when switching sources it’s a real pain, especially with HDMI-CEC.

JackbyDev, in In which game did you spend the most hours?

They’ve reset mine twice before many years ago. I’m sure Minecraft is my top overall. In steam it says Metal Gear Solid 5 is my top but I would leave it running sometimes for the research to finish. Second is Garry’s Mod. I played that A LOT when I was younger.

dan, in Should an altruistic organ donor be allowed to restrict their donation to a specific group of people? (e.g. women, gingers)

No.

If you’re alive then you’re totally be within your rights to choose who to voluntarily help or donate something to. Don’t like the look of that homeless guy for whatever reason? Don’t give them money. You can be as racist or misogynistic or otherwise generally cunty as you like, and as long as it’s your personal money/time/organs and you keep quiet about your selection criteria you’re unlikely to have a problem.

However once you’re dead, if you want your dickish restrictions honoured then you have to write them down somewhere. And any organisation set up to manage organ donations that agrees to facilitate such restrictions is likely to find themselves on the pointy end of a discrimination lawsuit at some point.

night_of_knee,

The question here is about a voluntary kidney donation from a living patient.

harmonea,
@harmonea@kbin.social avatar

What conditions are you imagining in which a donor is living but not aware of specifically who would be receiving the organ before agreeing? Tests need to be done to ensure compatibility, and a kidney is a lot to ask and probably wouldn't be agreed to unless it helps a loved one.

I feel like this is a strange premise whose goal is trying to try to move the line little by little until people are willing to say they're a little bit racist/sexist. Or until people are willing to admit they don't think others should have control over decisions made about their bodies. Be honest about your ends here instead of dreaming up fictions that make so little sense the answers are unproductive.

kia, in During travel, what can I prepare beforehand as meal, which can be eaten without access to fire or microwave?

Will you be able to poop during the duration of the trip?

Imactuallyanandroid,

I understood the reference

Lolors17, in What series did you rewatch most often?

The Big Bang Theory.

portalsentinel,

That show receives so much hate it’s unreal. It’s just a very nerdy sitcom. I loved it as well, although I haven’t watched an episode in a long time.

anaximander,

A lot of the punchlines are “ha ha, aren’t they weird?”, which hits totally different if you’re the sort of person who the character is an obvious caricature of. Doubly so if the weirdness in question is associated with some form of neurodivergence. For some people - myself included - a lot of the laughs in that show feel very much like they’re laughing at you, not with you. It’s only funny if you identify more with the people on the other side of the joke.

portalsentinel,

That’s an interesting take. I’m sure they didn’t mean to hurt ND people, even if they did end up doing that. I loved the jokes despite identifying with most of the “weird” characters

Marccalexx, in Should an altruistic organ donor be allowed to restrict their donation to a specific group of people? (e.g. women, gingers)

In Germany what you describe won’t be possible: organ donation from a living donor is only allowed if both person are quite close to each other (partners, family and so on). Organ donation from dead people is anonymous: the doctors that take the organs out of the dead person doesn’t know who receives them. Only Eurotransplant knows.

I think that’s a very good system. Organs should be given and received as anonymous as possible.

night_of_knee, (edited )

Are you sure Germany doesn’t have an altruistic kidney donation program?

This document from 2016 agrees with this assertion (bottom of second page).

It seems such a waste, this podcast makes it sound an amazing idea freakonomics.com/podcast/make-me-a-match-update/

CAPSLOCKFTW,

From the paper:

The legal basis for a living donation in Germany is a relationship or close personal connection between donor and recipient.

@Aviandelight@mander.xyz avatar

So you guys don’t do domino kidney donations? This is something that is sometimes done in the US. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/20199504/.

Marccalexx,

No, we don’t have that here in Germany.

gogosempai, in In which game did you spend the most hours?
@gogosempai@programming.dev avatar

That would be Elden Ring. Spent 200+ hours on that game (might sound like rookie numbers but that was my first open world game, was just a casual gamer before that).

gogosempai,
@gogosempai@programming.dev avatar

30 of those hours were spent on Malenia lol.

rufus, in What's a big tech product that you actually find useful?

Pretty much nothing. Why would i use it if there is an alternative?

markr, in Which is the most satisfying IO connector system, in your opinion?

Standard usb connector because despite my having a 50% chance of having it right side up, the first attempt is always upside down.

notun,

So is the second attempt.

I’m convinced that some USB plugs rotate through a fourth spatial dimension.

hsr,
@hsr@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Could also be that they have a spin of ½ so you need to rotate them by 720° to get back to their original orientation.

dekatron, in Which is the most satisfying IO connector system, in your opinion?

I like USB-C especially when it clicks.

TerranExpat, in Be honest, do you still use reddit?

I haven’t posted in years, but there is still so much content there. Now though without my favourite app (Joey) I probably will go there less. Even less when they disable old.reddit.com.

kerr, in During travel, what can I prepare beforehand as meal, which can be eaten without access to fire or microwave?
@kerr@kbin.social avatar

Not sure if it’s in your list, but the hot dog places were immensely popular and quite cheap when we were there a few years ago. Bæjarins Beztu was very tasty. Ate hot dogs with crispy onions and remoulade A LOT when we got home to recreate them. Even if you can’t take them with you during the day tours I’d recommend trying it out anyway.

nigelinux,

Yes hot dog! We’ve bookmarked it already but your firsthand experience has made me more eager to try!

wispydust, in Any good macro/keybind software for linux with wayland?

KMonad!

It’s more like an analogue for QMK (custom keyboard firmware) than reWASD though with features oriented towards rearranging, layers, etc. But it can do more than that, too.

Also it works on Xorg, Windows and macOS too.

Jogging_Baboon, in What movie did you rewatch most often?

I Love You Man, my comfort movie and one I never get sick of or fails to pick me up
