TehWorld, in Do you interact more in Lemmy?

You want an honest answer?
No. No I don’t.

I comment and share links at about the same rate as I did when I was primarily on Reddit. I’m less interested in Reddit these days and probably split my time 50-50. I’m pissed at what they did and continue to do, and the quality of the content has clearly taken a hit across the broader Reddit community but it’s still SO MUCH BIGGER than the entire fediverse that there is hundreds if not thousands of times the people and content.

I’ve tried to get a couple of groups off the ground, but I’m just not that guy and wasn’t on Reddit either.

I am not commenting on Reddit much anymore tho, due to the aforementioned behavior by Spez et al.

itsAsin,
@itsAsin@lemmy.world avatar

that’s honest.

i miss reddit, too. been 3.5 months since leaving and i used to spend 12 hours or more at a time scrolling and reading. it was like a good friend or partner.

but i really NEVER posted there. and i do here, sometimes.

Rentlar,

Hey, thanks for being honest about it.

You’re right, the sheer size of Reddit means it’s hard to deny that the variety of discussion topics is much greater than on Lemmy. The decentralized servers model also means it’s slightly more difficult to find and grow small communities.

What I like though is that in general, posters on Lemmy, even the ones that repost old memes from elsewhere, try to genuinely engage with other commentors.

lucullus, in What popular quote are you tired of hearing?

Occam’s razor, because it seem it is often used wrong by using it for just shutting down possible explanations. Typically noone mentions, that this is about guessing probabilities without prior knowledge and not a way to completely ignore an explanation.

Wonder_Wandering,

People just use it as “this makes sense to me, therefore it’s probably right”

lucullus,

In fictional media I’ve mostly seen this the other way round. Like "I don’t want to believe this expanation, so it should not be considered "

Crashumbc, in Does noone train their dogs anymore?

The percentage is the same. But a LOT more people own dogs right now. Sure to the pandemic then WFH…

not really, I mostly interacted with niche communities on reddit that haven’t made the switch

Lifecoach5000, in Does noone train their dogs anymore?

One of my dogs has some crazy weird leash aggression. It’s not even aggressive “aggression” - she’s just an 80lb friendly beast that wants to meet other dogs and people, and she has no qualms about pulling you down if you’re not ready.

It’s a hell of a habit that I haven’t been able to get her to break. I am the guy that will cross the street with my dogs if you’re on the sidewalk coming my way - just to keep things stress free.

Mandy,

that is a very valid concern and i certainly dont have a problem with that, but i dont think thats the mayority tho

Drusas,

Same. My dogs have actually had a lot of training, but most people who see us in public certainly wouldn't think so.

grasshopper_mouse, in Mother-in-Law bought family tickets to Medieval Times for tonight, but they're on strike and scabs are doing the show...
@grasshopper_mouse@lemmy.world avatar

Can the tickets be changed to a later date?

It’s not too late. Stick to your guns and refuse to go. Make Grandma take the kids herself while you and the wife stay home and enjoy some alone time.

All things considered, I realize you have to pick your battles where in-laws are concerned, so good luck. If you don’t put your foot down with her now though, when will you, if ever?

I can’t really think of any way to make amends to the employees on strike. Maybe go back later with some snacks and water or something, but at the end of the day, if you go to the show, you’re prioritizing your shitty mother-in-law’s lack of compassion and morals over workers making a decent wage/benefits.

GuyDudeman,
@GuyDudeman@lemmy.world avatar

You’re right. It sucks.

Wear a pro-union shirt or go in with a sign. No need to fight with your family, because your family isn’t really the problem at hand right now.

half_built_pyramids, in Mother-in-Law bought family tickets to Medieval Times for tonight, but they're on strike and scabs are doing the show...

Give a donation to the picketers, maybe same or more than the tickets. Don’t need to make a point about it, but talk to kids and wife.

GuyDudeman,
@GuyDudeman@lemmy.world avatar

That sounds like what we’ll have to do. We can make a donation to the strike fund here:

Valmond, in Do you interact more in Lemmy?

Yes.

Sometimes it’s corny or a little bit flamey though, but that actually feels like I’m discussing with real somewhat (we’re on Lemmy after all) random people.

100% would discuss again.

stepanzak, in Do you interact more in Lemmy?

I’m trying to.

glimse, in Does noone train their dogs anymore?

Most people don’t train their dogs but it’s not a new trend. I’d wager that the last time you could rightly say “most people train their dogs” was in the first couple decades of domestication

Pyr_Pressure, in Can anyone recommend terrible horror films?

Army of Darkness

PvtGetSum,

That’s a fantastic movie

Vaginal_blood_fart,

Oh baby that was just pillow talk

Yes. I dont feel comfortable contributing to closed corporate ecosystems.

PetteriSkaffari, in How is your part of the world doing?

How come nobody’s talking about climate change? This will be the biggest thing throughout the world in the coming century and beyond. No interest or what?

Everythingispenguins,

Well I couldn’t say for sure but would suggest that it is a hierarchy of problems. If you are having a hard time with the basics then no matter how real and dangerous an upcoming crisis is it doesn’t matter.
