Ask whether we got fusion working. Whether we did or didn’t, how do we start attacking our CO2 problem in a way that would minimally disrupt the traveler’s future?
They’ve had time and history to look at for the key knobs and levers to adjust that would solve a lot of our issues (while for sure creating new ones).
Well, I never said anything was wrong with it- but technically, it’s not positive themed. I’ve seen tons of negative-based things there, but they’re still funny.
I have two mastodon accounts that I barely use. I realized that I just don’t like twitter style social media in general. Same with pixelfed. I didn’t have accounts on the centralized alternatives to begin with. And I think that is fine. Centralized or not, social media that focuses on displaying your personal image is a scourge on humanity.
Lemmy completely replaced Reddit for me because overall the userbase on Lemmy is friendlier, and the quality of the content is better here. I reckon that once the normies flood, so will the toxic people.
I agree on the Twitter-style social media thing. I almost never used Twitter in all the years it existed, so I also don’t really post on Mastodon much. I used Instagram to share photography with friends/family overseas and so Pixelfed could potentially be of value to me, but I understand not using it if you never used Insta in the first place.
As for Lemmy/Reddit, I think the quality of content heavily depends on what your interests are. There’s plenty of good content for certain subjects (e.g. tech stuff) but I find Lemmy is sorely lacking in other areas, and so you tend to lose out on some of the diversity of opinion that made Reddit so good (or at least good to me). That’s largely been my issue with Lemmy overall and I think why I don’t use it as much as I used to use Reddit — a lot of the stuff just isn’t there yet, or if there is a community there might only be like 3 people posting.
I agree with you about Lemmy content. Tbh it might be an unpopular opinion but I also miss the diversity of the meme shitposting on Reddit because sometimes it was nice to just scroll and look at dumb shit. Lemmy in general has more involved content, which is great and high quality, but sometimes just missing what I’m craving.
I do really appreciate how much more LGBTQ+ friendly Lemmy is though. Reddit was getting grossly transphobic and I’m not trans but I ain’t about that life.
I don’t necessarily miss the memes, and a lot of the jokes would get repeated to death because everyone wanted their chance to say them, but I do find some of the Lemmy communities I follow can be kinda self-serious at times. I guess with a larger audience (Reddit), there was just more room for a joke or meme to land without derailing the thread or annoying people.

I get what you’re saying, but I think that’s kinda reductive. When I see a picture on Facebook of my uncle on his dirt bike all smiles after winning a race, I think that’s a positive and fruitful use of social media.
And personally, I like sharing a picture of a cosplay I made, hopefully to help someone else who might be on a similar creative path. Or at least to discuss creative processes.
I guess this is my actkually moment, but I think your assessment is off.

Platform Name: Lemmy
Accounts: This one is my main, a few bot accounts and others just for creating communities
Apps: Connect
Uses: You all know what this is! I also run a few posting bots
Platform Name: Mbin
Accounts: Fedia.io
Apps: None, was testing Artemis until it went AWOL
Uses: Hosting a few communities still. Was my main Lemmyesque account but Kbin was horribly unreliable. Mbin seems much better but waiting for app support as I like Connect more than the mobile web interface.

Uses: Logging and reviewing books I’ve read, keeping track of what is on my pile of books still to read.
Platform Name: Takahē
Accounts: Technically one, but it supports multiple profiles
Apps: Tusky
Uses: Mostly testing, run a few minor accounts there because the multiple profiles feature is ace.
Platform Name: Funkwhale

Uses: My bots also post here, I’ve never managed to get federation working on it though.
I think that’s it. I did have a PeerTube account but the instance it was on closed down, and I haven’t bothered to make a new one elsewhere.
All of these comments are well intentioned but of the big picture: land and weather.
Where’s the safest place to live and how is the weather doing at that time. Based on it one can potentially align survival to meet these places and protect us from severe weather.
Then we can ask him to go back and find a list of lottery combinations and dates to cash in real dollars for real, no investment and zero ties other than bankrupting red states.
Why red states? Because fuck them idiocy of saying a bunch of things are socialism when they’re not. Also because gambling when you always win is not a business for the state.
In years to come probably we could get an idea of the biggest changes in societal behaviors and cash into that so we effectively influence their future for better. Remember they’re also a person who needs access to their better life and we can help them achieve it.
im an american and had never heard of this book before so i had to look it up. it seems extremely impressive that someone would undertake such a breadth of american experiences through its entire history. however, i also saw a lot of criticism that matches what you described. ill give you the same advice id give anyone studying any history: no book is perfect. if you really want to know as much as you can, you’ll have to read a ton of books from a ton of different sources. plenty of people love criticizing america, its very easy to do, but most authors wont try to write with such the breadth that this guy has, due to it often including bias and poor sources. its an easy thing to do poorly. if you want a factual overview of american history, id go for a textbook. you can then deep dive into anything that interests you. if you are interested in varying perspectives, there are plenty of african american, native american, feminist, etc. books. you can look up plenty of different book lists online. just look up the author/book before you leave, as there are plenty of frauds. hope that helps! whats gotten you interested in american history?
If I recall correctly (and it’s been over a decade since I read that one), Zinn is quite clear from the onset about his stance. (Even the title makes it evident that his perspective isn’t going to follow the traditional USA history narrative.) He sustains his points with empirical evidence, so I would hesitate to call it prejudiced. But there are some issues with some of his sources. (I think Matthew Restall may address some of those.)
How about trying out James Loewen’s Lies My Teachers Told Me? That book explains what I think Zinn was attempting to problematize: the blind acceptance of the biases within historical texts. Loewen aims directly at the USA secondary educational system in particular. You will learn a lot about USA history and why it has been written from a specific angle.
