Anamnesis, in What is your favorite part of the day?

The first coffee and bit of nicotine in the morning. Nothing like feeling productive and energized.

05:15-06:45 while I’m at the gym, quickly followed up by the worst part of the day, shower and breakfast.

Rentlar, in Thoughts on reddit reposter bots?

There are certain niches where automated mirroring is a little useful.

Game day threads, part sales (where people need to be quick) are a couple examples.

I have most post bots blocked though (lemmit, alien, lululemon, etc.).

Like others said the downsides are that they drown out original posts and discussions with authors that never respond to comments. Consequently, the not-logged-in experience on instances that “leave it up to users to block” will appear messy and full of garbage.

I think they have their place but those automated should be contained to communities that want them, easily identified, easy to block and post rate limited to reasonable levels.

A yet to be developed feature in Lemmy would be the ability to somehow “opt-in follow” automated bot posts rather than the current “opt-out” model.

OpenPassageways, in When/how do you think capitalism will be defeated?

Gens Y, X, Z, and soon A are being taught by conservatives that capitalism can’t be reformed, and therefore are digging capitalism’s grave with their own hands.

You want reasonable restrictions on firearms? Conservatives say that can’t be done because of the 2nd amendment. They’re basically teaching gens Z and A that the 2nd amendment needs to be eliminated and those generations might actually have the numbers to do it eventually.

It will be the same with capitalism. You want reasonable regulations and taxation to reign in the abuses of the rich and corporations? Conservatives say you can’t do that because the free market must be supreme.

Conservatives will dig the grave of capitalism by continuing to fight against any reforms that would make capitalism more livable for future generations.

Salix, (edited ) in What's your favorite instrument that really gets through to you?

Hard for me to choose just one. I love these three instruments because they are so peaceful and calm. Though people do use them to do covers of heavier music as well.

The Guzheng is a 21-26 string zither instrument. I love Zithers in general. There are many types from different countries.

The Guquin is a 7 string instrument.

The Erhu is a 2 string instrument. Part of the huquin instrument family.

Harpsist, in What movie or book had the biggest impact on you this year?

The law of 1 - the book of Ra. Book 1.

I’m open for comments on this. It is so far past the whoo whoo scale I’m not even sure how I started reading it without quitting.

23:00 - 06:30 , no one bothers me, I bother no one, just me and the quiet environment, perfect to grab a coffee, study and work without anything to take my focus away.

thallamabond, (edited ) in Court documents naming Epstein associates are to be made public this week? Who do you think will come out the worst?

Leslie Wexner the owner of Victoria secret and the man who gifted Epstein his New York Mansion. But maybe not because he has money.

Synth.

Fight me.

CephalonFaye, (edited ) in What's your favorite instrument that really gets through to you?

The tekerő. It’s the Hungarian version of the hurdy-gurdy.

A_Random_Idiot, (edited ) in Anyone who recently had a "Yup, it was that kinda day" day. What happened?

Yesterday I had a major “I am living in a movie and I’m the character everyone loves when bad things happens to them” vibes

Cause I woke up yesterday and a not insignificant chunk of my electonics were broken/nonfunctional… Some of them werent even plugged in, so its not like it was a power issue or something.

They were all bought at different times, from different stores, and different brands. The only thread tying them all together (and this is where the movie character shit kicks in) is that all their warranties expired within like 2 weeks of eachother, Which means they all just fell out of warranty.

The Few replies from the various companies I’ve gotten so far can be basically summed up as “1 day out of warranty is still out of warranty, go fuck yourself”

It sounds so ridiculous that even I don’t believe it, and I’m living it. Do they just put kill switches in stuff to make them die immediately after warranty now? Cause I sure as fuck feel like they do.

AtmaJnana, in Thoughts on reddit reposter bots?

I block them all. If I wanted reddit content, I’d still be on reddit.

ominouslemon, (edited ) in Best/usable free Evernote alternative

There is a huge number of alternatives, depending on what features you need. Joplin is probably the most famous open-source alternative. You can also subscribe to Joplin Cloud to have e2e-encrypted note synchronization between devices.

If you don’t need a web clipper, look into Standard Notes (FOSS and e2e encryoted, also available via web interface - that’s what I use ATM), Simple Notes (FOSS but not encrypted), Obsidian (great but maybe a bit overkill and expensive if you want to sync) or Anytype (also a bit overkill and still in beta, but also very promising)

Alternativeto.net can be helpful in making a choice

EDIT: for each of the softwares I’ve mentioned there is a way to import Evernote notes in bulk

kurcatovium,

I’m using free Standard Notes account for couple of years and it’s pretty solid for basic note taking. It obviously lacks all the bells and whistles of paid version, but I’m fine with this for the great price of $0.

ominouslemon,

I’m using the paid version (I have a Professional plan but I still pay 49.99$ a year, which was the old price I believe). It’s pretty great, but markdown support can sometimes be janky and I also have problems with sync from time to time. Also the apps make me re-login randomly, and one time the app thought I had a free subscription instead of a paid one and, because of that, ALL of my markdown notes were turned into plaintext notes. I still have to re-set them all, one by one, to markdown.

There is also 100GB cloud support for files, subscription sharing and a bunch of other stuff, but I’d rather see them work on making the whole experience more robust, instead of adding new features.

With the current prices I would not recommend upgrading to a paid version, and I’m also looking to switch to something more flexible and robust.

kurcatovium,

There’s Notesnook, which looks like pretty much the same thing. Might be worth checking out.
