mycatiskai, in What companies have made your blacklist?

Sodastream because they were built on Palestinian occupied territory before they moved facilities back to Israel to avoid the bad press.

Spence Diamonds because they have the most annoying advertising and diamonds are bullshit carbon anyways.

Advertising being horrible is a huge red flag that your business is somewhere I won’t be going at all. Car dealerships giving away gold bricks, hot dogs, telling you they are your friendly neighbor, giving away trips or extras with every purchase means those things are all baked into the price already and you are spending more then elsewhere.

netchami, in What Linux distro should I choose?

Linux Mint is awesome for beginners.

AceQuorthon, in What Linux distro should I choose?

Pop_OS!

rockandsock, in Do you prefer to wear a smartwatch or a regular watch?

I have a couple of traditional watches that I occasionally wear and don’t own a smart watch because I don’t need another thing to worry about keeping charged.

nossaquesapao,

Just a few days ago, someone around here was telling me about how they need a charger with 10 usb ports when traveling, because everyone in the family has a smartwatch and other devices that need frequent charging.

Crackhappy, in Do you disable notifications for all your apps?
@Crackhappy@lemmy.world avatar

SMS and Signal are the only things that are always on. Email is on during business hours. Other than that, they’re always off.

shinigamiookamiryuu, in Excluding the obvious ones such as politics, what topics can't you stand listening to people talk about?

Technically I can relate to the dreams thing but for completely different reasons. Dreams on their own are fine to talk about IMO (most famously as a conversation starter and I even help host a group set up for them), but once in a while you’ll find literal dream preachers (my first BF was one of these, coming to the meal table was a chore), and I might ask something like “will this be on the test”. It’s not some kryptonite, it’s just dull-ish for a lack of a better word, though I’m not singling it out either.

churrundo,

Yeah, I studied psychology and I like to play Jung a bit when people feel the need to tell me about a dream they had, which in theory is by definition something their unconscious needs them to be aware of. So I ask what they think about it, what they felt at different points, etc. Usually the dream is either absolutely illegible, or unsurprisingly obvious. No in-between.

shinigamiookamiryuu,

Just one dream at a time? I thought comparing/contrasting multiple dreams was part and parcel to that process.

churrundo,

Probably, but that’s an entire therapy process

MagneticFusion, in What Linux distro should I choose?

If this is your first time using Linux, just use Linux Mint. Stable, popular, good package support, etc. Once u feel more ready you can dip your hands in other distros.

9up999, in Do you prefer to wear a smartwatch or a regular watch?

No ⌚.

INHALE_VEGETABLES,

No watch gang.

Chakravanti,

We watch the watchers.

mangosloth, in What do ridiculously rich people (like Bill Gates etc.) ask for/get for Christmas/birthdays/etc.?

I’ve talked about it with people who are not rich themselves but who are around the mega rich because of their jobs… Apparently at a certain point, “things” lose their meaning and experiences become their new materialism. Hence why so many rich people get caught up in depraved shit that makes it on the news, because theyre down the rabbit hole of collecting wild experiences as opposed to cars or jewelry or whatever other entry level rich person stuff. Flexing becomes more about “have you been to x, have you done y” etc

Resol, in What are Lemmy's unwritten rules?
@Resol@lemmy.world avatar

Mandatory Spez hate

cheese_greater,

Does he have any redeeming narrative or side?

Resol,
@Resol@lemmy.world avatar

Idk, we just hate him because he got rid of third party apps since it’s so expensive to use the Reddit API now

People like me flocked to alternatives afterwards, which is why I’m now called “Resol van Lemmy”

sheridan, in Can anyone else feel sensations in their brain?
@sheridan@lemmy.world avatar

Sometimes I’ve felt like an object I was imagining suddenly for a split second was somehow tangible inside my head. Like it has weight that I can feel, but it only lasts for a very short moment. It’s hard to put into words.

chtk, in What show is as entertainingly bad as Fear The Walking Dead?
@chtk@feddit.nl avatar
  • Falling Skies. A science fiction series executive produced by Steven Spielberg about a ragtag group of survivors after an alien invasion.
  • The Strain. Sci-fi/horror show created by Guillermo del Toro. About vampires; think modern retelling of Dracula. And nukes are involved at some point.
zakobjoa,
@zakobjoa@lemmy.world avatar

Seconding Falling Skies here. Entertainingly bad. Think Red Dawn but with aliens instead of Russians.

DemBoSain,
@DemBoSain@midwest.social avatar

Naah, it wasn’t that bad. I like to imagine every alien army has a boss that hands out insta-wins when they die. Like Independence Day. Or Independence Day 2.

zakobjoa,
@zakobjoa@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah it’s like Iraq. When Saddam was killed they won!

kandoh,

The strain gets really rough around the last two seasons.

RizzRustbolt,

It gets rough right from the first episode. This asshole is the protagonist I’m supposed to be cheering for?

Someasy,

I never watched past ep 1, LOL

Someasy,

The soundtrack by Ramin Djawadi was good though, if I recall

nevemsenki, in Do you prefer to wear a smartwatch or a regular watch?

Garmin “Smart” watch. It doesn’t do apps but it does notificatios and is great for fitness… and only needs charging once a month. A watch that needs recharging daily is useless to me.

9715698,

Me as well. I like to track my steps and exercise. Instinct 2 only needs charging I’ve a month. Absolutely love it.

XbSuper,

Never understood the issue with daily charging. Unless you need to track your sleep cycle (which I’ve also never really understood, but to each their own), what’s the problem with putting it on a charger each night before bed?

nevemsenki,

Because it’s a hassle. For example I need to lug a charger with me everywhere I go, which is especially annoying on longer trips.

IronKrill, in How many tabs do you have open?

At current count, 911. I used to sit around 3000 but managed to shave it down, now it’s creeping back up.

Too many things I want to download or read later and not as much time as I used to have. I have been making an effort to use alternative methods though such as bookmarks, YouTube playlists, or just, you know, doing the thing in the moment.

0x4E4F, in How would you explain Lemmy/Kbin to a Reddit person or to a social media person?

I just tell them there are pirate subs (comms), that get’s their attention rather quickly.

IbnLemmy,

Piracy and porn… The secret to every social networks success…

jedi,

Lol! The best way
