My dog dry heaves sometimes. It looks like he’s gonna throw up but nothing comes out. I asked the vet and he said that it’s probably eating stuff he shouldn’t (which makes sense, he has a bad habit of grabbing stuff off the ground and trying to eat it on our walks)
That why someone behaves a certain way is only important inasmuch as it determines whether they’ll keep behaving that way.
Examples:
Criminals don’t need to be punished but rehabilitated; because blame and guilt aren’t important; recidivism is.
Your lover might have all sorts of reasons they love you, and some of those may seem very romantic and some might seem as unromantic as can be. But as long as they will keep living you, that’s what’s important.
Everybody else is saying things that some humans are too dumb to grasp. I’ll give you an example that virtually all humans are too dumb to grasp.
How are our decisions affected by conflicts of interests? The last time I looked into this, the research in this area said that humans virtually always underestimate the effect that a conflict of interests has on them, by a lot. Many people don’t even see the conflict of interests. People who recognize the conflict of interests believe that because they are aware of the conflict of interests, they can mitigate the effects completely. They are wrong.
Humans get entangled by conflicts of interests just like dogs get entangled by their leashes. Just like dogs, many times, humans don’t realize that they’re caught. Just like dogs, even if you show a human the problem, they cannot understand. But even worse than dogs getting tangled by their leashes, humans believe they can understand what to do when they’re caught up, but it turns out that they’re wrong.
Content is key. And you are a large-scale provider, so many thanks! I know you’re just a regular person (although there is a non-zero chance you’re actually Obama) but we just appreciate you
I only hate Lemmy.ml or whatever its instance is cuz they banned me “for no reason”.
I think it was related to vaccuums, they wanted to clean up the place and thats hard to do when guys are jizzing in vaccuum s i guess…?
Edit: also, for all i know vacuums are manufactured in Malaysia (ML?) and the communist government “forced” their bloody hands on it. Still doesn’t make for a free and purely rational discussion forum.
I was banned citing rule 1 (no bigotry, racism, etc) for posting a meme about how modern cars are too big, too expensive, and send all your data to China.
Apparently because my meme implied China Bad.
I left because the moderation and administration are inconsistent. The rules were left too vague and one of the admins keeps removing random stuff according to different rules or new definitions of the rules. They are left so insanely vague so they can basically do what they want. Kinda icky to me. If I’m doing something wrong I wanna stop it. I was abused as a kid by a mother who loved to make up new stuff and new rules and judge me by them. Blame me for not following them when they only existed in her head.
Said admin acts the same way and I have absolutely no interest in engaging with that. I barely escaped hell before. I’m not going back.
Reminds me of Tildes honestly. Had some great discussions but the condescending loser assholes and the ruthless moderation by @deimos was insanely non-evenhanded ultimately and lost them a contributor who actually brought thoughtful if idiosyncratic views on things that always created abundant engagement. Ah, its just as well. I need fewer distractions and at least with Lemmy, theres lots of space (instance-permitting) to be me. Same reason why I like Lobste.rs: smart folks but way to harsh+judgemental and inflexible, like a computer program lol
I see a fair few comments about this quite frequently, and I completely agree - there’s a lot of video content that is better off as a written piece. Not everyone wants to sit through 10-15 mins of video that they could have skimmed or read in 2
Please cite these rules (eg Rule #3 blah blah blah). Orherwise, I and others who werent there have no idea what youre talking about and its de facto unrelatable or insccessible
I like how everyones complaining aboit micro xactions and monetization like console and pc games aren’t also doing that. Compare apples to apples, if you’re only going to talk about the free to play mobile games, you cant compare them to the $70 dollar titles on console and PC. Give it enough time and your PC free to plays and mobile ones will be monetized almost the same, weather thats due to new laws or the industries playing the long slow game of adding more and more monetization without spooking off the customers.
