I maximize fiber and protein and don’t really count calories. Most americans do not get enough fiber so metamucil can be very powerful. I will go out of my way to eat filling, low calorie foods. Apples, celery, and the not so occasional pickle.

It's probably due to the selecting 'Most Popular' meaning that it only finds the most upvoted thing on the instance. Instances as well as the Fediverse have grown so much adding more and more content over time but that does not always mean that everyone sees that one meme anymore making more modern posts have less traction. (At least from what I can think)
Foods just fuel to me unless I’ve had weed. But when my husband first started working long hours I didn’t enjoy eating alone. It didn’t matter what the food type was.

Good question! Your perspective on that might differ a lot depending on how long you’ve been on the internet.
In recent years, every major messenger (WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal, …) has been doing it this way, linking your phone number to your identity, so your contacts are automatically discovered from your address book (and reciprocally, people who have your phone number already will find you easily and as soon as they install the app you recommended to them). If that’s all you’ve ever known, not only is that not a bug (or rather, a major privacy and identity linkage breach), that’s a convenient feature, and you kind of expect things to work that way. I personally don’t like that (and I’m aware of being a dying species).
Now, regarding Prav, please don’t use it (for the time being, at least). As far as I can tell, this is a fork of the Conversations/quicksy.im XMPP clients (Conversations being the original work, and Quicksy being a derivative by the same author using the phone number discovery / easy onboarding approach discussed here). Unlike the original which is very safe and reputable, whose author is known and very active within the XMPP/security communities, and whose hosted service has years and years of excellent service and uptime under its belt, this one comes out of nowhere, from an unknown contributor (afaict), has no funding model to suggest it being sustainable, and worse, no rationale as to why it exists in the first place (why would it be chosen over the original). So, my recommendation is to stick to those.
Back to the original question, thanks to Quicksy.im having been around for several long years already, the debate of having phone numbers being used for identification on XMPP is not really something new. Having been there for a very long time and seen the before/after, indeed this has enabled some of my current contacts (who were already users of other services like WhatsApp and certainly didn’t mind) to get on board a bit more easily. They are not the majority, so, and in all, I’m glad that the option exists, it’s not as big a deal as it might seem for XMPP in general.

I'm part of the community maintaining many services to public including XMPP services at diasp.in and poddery.com Prav is just trying a different approach to running an XMPP service. Both poddery.com and diasp.in is fully volunteer driven and we are finding it difficult to get new volunteers.
To all the prav folks responding here, sorry if my message came up rubbing the wrong way, I didn’t mean to be diminutive or dismissive in any way. I am glad to see my questions answered, and I guess prav makes sense in the specific context that was mentioned. I only wish it was a little bit more explicit about what it is, what it is not, and whom it targets. I wish you good luck with your project :)
Eating is a social deal in every culture (as is smoking, doing edibles, or partaking in any other consumable, generally). It might even be an instinctive thing. I know when my wife isn’t around (often due to business) I’ll just make something simple for myself (like the stereotypical can of tuna) and when she doesn’t want to eat (migraines, etc.) then I feel disappointed that I won’t be making dinner for us.
Curiously, when it comes to dessert, I am a little sad if we don’t eat it together, if say, there’s pie and she had her slice while I was dogwalking or something.
And I say this as someone who’s eaten alone for most of my life. My usual thing was just to make myself one of a few staples and snack while playing video games. (This also led to a preference for food I could handle without flatware but also wasn’t greasy. Things wrapped in tortillas and carrotsticks.)
Now that I’m in the habit of prepping dinner every night, it feels weird when I don’t.
i just eat intuitively, it took some training to wean myself off sugar and onto vegetables but now the most unhealthy thing i can get cravings for is cinnamon buns and meals feel incomplete and vaguely gross without some sort of vegetable, ideally green vegetable, in it.
IMO calorie counting and anything as strict as that is just stress-inducing and gives you a pretty fucked up relationship to food. I think the best thing for most people is to just look at the calorie counts but don’t actually worry about it at all, minimize sugar intake, maximize vegetable and fruit consumption, reduce meat consumption, and choose whole-grain options wherever possible.
This lets you enjoy food without stressing about it, and should be extremely easy to follow.
Sugar is basically the only big bad food that matters, it’s super easy to get way too many calories with sugary stuff because it doesn’t make you feel full and is so calorie dense.
Vegetables on the other hand are pretty low in calories and take up tons of space in your stomach, so you feel full and won’t want to eat more than you need. And always choosing whole grain makes sure that even if you get a lot of starch (which is basically sugar but less terrible), you at least also get a bunch of fibre and other nutrients.
And fibre is a bit of a golden bullet i feel: it just generally makes your gut health better and best of all makes taking a dump a much more pleasant process.
Eating like this helped me kick my sugar habit and lose 90lbs. I also would add fermented foods to help diversify you gut microbiome. Kimchi, sauerkraut, kefir, kombucha, and yogurt (Greek, Iceland, etc…) are all great.
Don’t forget beans and lentils too. Fry some eggs and slide it on a bowl of beans and that’s a good eating, right there.
oh yeah big thumbs up to both of those, though i will say that beans and lentils are actually kinda expensive here and dried ones are hilariously inconvenient, yeah sure i’m gonna fucking soak stuff a day in advance lmfao.
What i tend to stick to is frozen peas and haricots verts, that is really cheap (the peas are even domestic!) and can simply be dumped into the meal or quickly reheated in the microwave/boiled/pan fried.
it’s an arse, it means i have to plan what i’m going to eat way in advance and if i wake up and just… don’t feel like eating beans then i have a bunch of beans i need to consume before they go bad…
Everyone’s different I guess, but I don’t think of one day before as “way in advance”. Plain boiled beans freeze really well so I just do that if I’ve already made them but my plans change.
Honestly I’m starting to think “Do you freeze food?” is the most powerful indicator of a person’s overall level of having their shit together.

At least you write really well, so you’ve got that going for you. I do get that things which involve that much prep don’t work for everyone’s lifestyle, I guess it’s the upside of being pretty boring and living in a country where I don’t have any friends that I can make it work for me.
I’m just feeling upended because I’m taking care of a family member’s dog at their house, and the place I’d be otherwise is my apartment but it’s pretty new and I was homeless before and just don’t have much routine in my life. Really want more.
Also my apartment’s countertop space is almost nil and it’s not much better at this house.
Not the worst I’ve dealt with though. In college I had an apartment where the countertop space was just the drain area of this big cast iron sink + drain pan thing, and even there I managed to cook a lot.
But always immediate stuff. Onions and eggs and spaghetti and sauce and all that.
Peak routine was during my last relationship. Got really good at great northern beans. Dang I’m gonna take another run at beans I think.
It’s an asynchronous process that requires me to hold a mental model of the state of an ongoing project.
I mean it’s not that bad, I can put beans in a bowl of water on the counter and not have to remember it because I’ll see the bowl of beans.
But my life is chaotic and I might forget they’re there or just go sleep at a friend’s house or whatever and then I come home and there’s my bowl of beans harboring an entire microscopic civilization entering the industrial age because Siri decided to play dumb when I asked her to remind me in twelve hours that I’ve got beans soaking.

My brain evolved in a place where soaking beans would require finding a puddle in a rock depression after rainfall. Like unless I come across a tree full of protein bars, I’m fucked.
