A phone in the sole so I can smell what I've been stepping in while talking to my friends.

Thorny_Insight, in What kind of wearable device do you want? Assuming it will work and feel like you imagine it would

One that slaps me on the back of my head every time I’m ruminating

otter,

I remember seeing something like that for posture, could repurpose it

Thorny_Insight,

I need that too

weariedfae, in If you could custom make your *perfect* shoes, what features would they have?

I’d settle for perfectly comfortableshoes but for special features I’d have to say…

Okok

So they’re sandals. Perfect comfort and air flow but they have a forcefield to repel dirt, rocks, water, etc.

And I’m thinking like hiking sandals so good traction as well.

Yes, these would be the most perfect shoes ever.

I miss my Pebble. :( I have yet to find an adequate replacement since it died.

Same, I have the Amazon gts 2 and it’s alright but it’s not the same. Thinking of getting the PineTime next but the firmware was a bit underwhelming last I checked.

kilted_cyclist,

Same! After mine broke I bounced between Samsung and Garmin before landing in a feñix 6 pro sapphire. Battery life is amazing. Watch faces are configurable and Garmin has an application that allows you to build your own faces if you have the time/inclination. And it’s damn near indestructible. Going on 3 years daily wear and it still looks like it could be new. Check out the black Friday deals.

They make phone forearm mounts for runners.

arirr, in What is Hamas' current charter or policy documents it relies on in terms of its own hegemony (if any at all)

I’m definitely skeptical of anything “moderate” that they claim to now operate on. Their actions, especially on October 7th illustrated what their actual ideology is. They even still have foreign workers who are entirely uninvolved hostage.

MicrowavedTea, in What kind of wearable device do you want? Assuming it will work and feel like you imagine it would

I can’t find an image of it but the phone/watch concept shown in The Peripheral would be cool. Basically a touch screen that can be either flat and work like current smartphones or wrapped around your arm with the whole area being a screen (with a better interface than current smartwatches).

thegreekgeek,

Ooh, like a slap bracelet?

MicrowavedTea,

Pretty much yeah, it might have been the same motion as well

Moghul, in What kind of wearable device do you want? Assuming it will work and feel like you imagine it would

Does a bag of holding count?

otter,

A big positive for driving over transit is being able to bring extra stuff that you might need

A bag of holding would fix that. 100% prepared, all the time

Moghul,

Not to mention the ease of carry. No heavy backpacks or unwieldy suitcases.

brygphilomena,

Just don’t forget it on the train.

LemmyIsFantastic, in If you could custom make your *perfect* shoes, what features would they have?

Slip in (already a thing) and machine washable.

GeniusIsme,

I agree. With “Lemmy is fantastic” part, too.

LemmyIsFantastic,

It’s meh. It could be fantastic but communist have taken it over and it’ll die down over there next few years.

I hope to be proven wrong but this place is just going to end up being fancy forums after everyone bans every opinion they hate and defederates.

I’ll probably be back on Reddit inside a year 😑

    Jaytreeman,

It's always the quintessential Redditor that complains about the fediverse.

This place is so much more positive than Reddit. Maybe you'd notice your mood improve a bit if you tried to participate in a positive way.

Devi, in What kind of wearable device do you want? Assuming it will work and feel like you imagine it would

Some kind of chip or retina scanner that lets you into wherever you want with no hassle. I have keys for home, keys for my car, keys for my parents, a keycard for work, a code for the gym, there's a lot of shit to carry round just so I can go into the places that I'm allowed to go into.

Good soles that don’t fall off while walking.

Basically anything from Cyberpunk. That aesthetic is so astoundingly cool to me. The eye implants probably the most. When I was a kid I played this Terminator game for Gamecube and you could activate terminator vision whenever. I always thought it was the coolest thing ever and that’s not really changed. Gimme those special eyes. Wanna see the world in a new light.

I already have an Apple Watch. That’s enough for me.

Something breathable like canvas but it is more durable than leather. The soles are as tough as possible while staying flexible enough to accommodate squatting. The soles are designed to be replaced multiple times without damaging the rest of the shoes.

It would have a composite protective toe, few to no seams, and laces that can snug it up to your foot if you tug them and hook them, but the shoes would stay on if you don’t do anything to the laces. Like, they just wouldn’t be as supportive without snugging them up.

It would have aggressive arch supports, or else come with several different inserts for different arch support needs.

Also, very wide toe box designed around normal toes, not squashing toes into a narrow or unnaturally shaped space.
