Sneaky blowjobs?

KeepFlying, in What's your best idea for a date centered around the library?

Some kind of scavenger hunt around gathering your favorite things. Then showing them to each other.

Nemo, in What's your best idea for a date centered around the library?

My local library does craft nights, open mics, movie screenings, tax help…

So any of those except tax help. Unless that’s your kink, I guess.

slazer2au,

Tax at the library would work for my wife. 😏Thanks for the idea mate.

“Harold and Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay” has the answer you’re looking for 😉

trustnoone, in What's your best idea for a date centered around the library?

I love those old school libraries that have amazing sculpture or art sitting around and old books and chairs and tables. If you’re both book readers and you can find one to lay next to each other as you read out the window or something. They’re normally next to a museum of some sort too

XTL,

Reading out the window at a museum actually sounds like a fun thing to do together.

pineapple_pizza, in What's your best idea for a date centered around the library?

Kinda related, but library aid was a good way to meet people in HS. Lots of downtime

Xanis, in What do normal people look at on their phones?

Dunno about normal, per se. I have adhd and when I’m not forgetting what I was about to do in the time between having the thought and picking up my phone, I am often diving down some rabbit hole. This might be a quick Google search in a definition, or to figure out where I heard a word. For example, a friend recently mentioned acid reflux. So my brain thought “GERD?”, “GERDY??”, “THE HERDY GERDY?!?” which led me to Wikipedia, then to a handful of rather cool videos on Youtube of people playing the instrument.

Er…

My point being: Use it as a helpful miscellaneous tool. Like a physical widget that can go along with near any activity.

HeavyRaptor, in Keyword based Filter on Lemmy ?

Boost has it. I also have Elmo and Twitter added, it’s been much calmer since. Haven’t added X yet because I don’t know if it would block every word with an x in it though.

themurphy, in How do I avoid Amazon when orders from other sites get fulfilled by Amazon?

You accept that you live in the most late stage capitalist country of all time that’s very pro monopoly.

And then you move I guess. No one believes USA will ever change for the better.

rikudou,
@rikudou@lemmings.world avatar

Move to Czechia! Amazon’s presence is negligible here, we have our own local alternatives (Alza.cz being the biggest one, but we also have a plethora of e-commerce sites in general).

jol,

Germany also has plenty other websites like Otto and Kaufland. And they all your favourite random letter brands you can find in amazon.

thethirdobject,

In Switzerland we don’t even have Amazon. We can order from one of the neighbourhing countries’ Amazon, but they don’t always ship here. There are a lot of alternatives though.

intensely_human,

Really it’s the internet that enables these monopolies. It nullifies space for information. Like a little pizza place can only have so much reach. But if the product is teleported, then that little pizza operation can just keep growing and growing smoothly and taking more of the market. And it can happen really fast.

cmeio, in How do I avoid Amazon when orders from other sites get fulfilled by Amazon?

Depending on where you live, just order less. Try to pick up the stuff you order or go to shops directly (or sometimes question if you really need it). Its not all or nothing, every single product less bought with them is a step in the right direction

Knitwear,

This is how I’ve been shopping for years, but not to be woe is me, I’m a wheelchair user with a variety of medical nonsense that keeps me in the house. Trying to shop ethically online used to be feasible, but it’s increasingly impossible

viking, in What do normal people look at on their phones?

I’m reading ebooks with ReadEra (adfree and unrestricted in the free version, bought it during some 50% sale to support the dev).

Else I’m reading news (news.google.com with a highly curated blocklist of >150 sites) and play a bunch of word games like Wordle, Dordle, Quordle, Octordle, crosswordle, fibble, symble, thirdle, warmle and whatever else.

JackGreenEarth,

I don’t know about your ereader, but Librera has been working great for me, it’s very customisable, is FOSS, and is on F-Droid.

viking,

Sounds great! Really not looking for a change since I’ve been happy with it for a solid decade, but it’s great to know there are alternatives.

It's not defederation - hardly any instances block lemmy.ml, not even beehaw.

INHALE_VEGETABLES, in What's your best idea for a date centered around the library?
    • Look up your birthdays in the newspaper archives if they have one.
    • See if you can find your favourite book from when you were a child.
    • Get caught giving sneaky blow jobs.
Thorny_Insight, in What is the best option to provide for people who are homeless in the cold?

First things that comes to mind about staying warm in cold weather is wool instead of synthetics/cotton and mittens rather than gloves.

    greedytacothief,

Why not synthetics? Sure they smell worse than wool, but a synthetic fleece is very warm and will stay warm even when wet, and will dry faster than cotton.
