Tedesche, in Would you choose invisibility or teleportation?

If I could somehow be assured that the world wouldn’t immediately turn in me when they discovered my super power and try to capture me for its own ends, teleportation. If not…definitely invisibility. Much easier to hide the power, not just myself.

Thorny_Insight, in Would you choose invisibility or teleportation?

Invisibility.

I don’t know why but I love the feeling of being able to watch people without them knowing about my presence. I spend a lot of time in nature and intentionally dress to blend in and I love that often when I hear/see people near me I can just stand there in plain sight and they still often don’t notice me.

RogueBanana,

I don’t know if this is creepy or cute but uh keep doing but not next to me

What if he’s already invisible and saw you typing this comment?

Mnemnosyne, in Would you choose invisibility or teleportation?

As others have said, invisibility versus teleportation is way too lopsided in favor of teleportation. Even if we’re talking perfect ‘you cannot be detected unless you bump into something or otherwise reveal your own presence’ invisibility, it’s still not good enough to compete with teleportation. Especially with S-tier teleportation like described there.

You’d have to really beef up the invisibility side to make it more fair. Maybe instead of just invisibility, go full incorporeal, with the ability to have gravity affect you (or not affect you) however you want, relative to whatever reference frame you want (be very careful with this) and the ability to make any part of yourself incorporeal or corporeal without it being all of you. Even then, I’d have a bit of a hard time picking this over teleporting.

Or go with the Invisible Woman’s powerset, that’d be a pretty solid other option versus that teleportation. At that point I would actually have a hard time choosing, cause that is some nice teleportation, but Sue Storm’s powers are pretty high tier as well.

Force field bubbles are wild. I bet you could use them as transportation as well. Just explode one under your feet and catch yourself with them when you land.

At a minimum you could make bridges that would let you walk/run/ride/drive though the air or across water. Still great for travel.

BennyInc, in If you could custom make your *perfect* shoes, what features would they have?

100% dirt and water repellant. Just stay clean and dry all the time.

Wumbologist,

The monkey’s paw curls. Your sweat is forever sealed within the shoes.

SgtAStrawberry,

Well it forget to make the shoes dirt and water repellant, but otherwise I have those. Not to bad if it isn’t to warm outside, grate autumn/spring early winter shoes.

Therealgoodjanet, in What is Hamas' current charter or policy documents it relies on in terms of its own hegemony (if any at all)

How Hamas feels about Zionism/Israel:

  1. The Zionist project is a racist, aggressive, colonial and expansionist project based on seizing the properties of others; it is hostile to the Palestinian people and to their aspiration for freedom, liberation, return and self-determination. The Israeli entity is the plaything of the Zionist project and its base of aggression.

How Hamas feels about Jewish people:

  1. Hamas affirms that its conflict is with the Zionist project not with the Jews because of their religion. Hamas does not wage a struggle against the Jews because they are Jewish but wages a struggle against the Zionists who occupy Palestine. Yet, it is the Zionists who constantly identify Judaism and the Jews with their own colonial project and illegal entity.

There’s a bit more, it isn’t too long, you can find it here: www.middleeasteye.net/…/hamas-2017-document-full

teichflamme,

Who is more believable than actual terrorists?

We’ve seen in their recent attacks that they do very much differentiate between Zionists and normal people before they kill them. Oh, wait…

Therealgoodjanet,

I’m just quoting from their charter…

teichflamme,

I’m just saying it’s obviously not how they feel about it, but rather what they like gullible people to believe.

To put your quote into context.

dumples, in What do you do to reduce your use of single use plastics?
@dumples@kbin.social avatar

If you can find one in your location we have been trying to shop more at a package free stores. We have found that the cleaning products which we have purchased are generally similar in price and work just as well if not better than we used to use. After living in a city that charged for bags at the grocery store we have gotten used to using a reusable bag for all grocery trips even though lots of items still have the single use plastics in packaging. For those we try to reuse that plastic as small garbage can liners or other uses but most get thrown away.

We have been trying to reduce our consumption in general (the high costs of goods has helped with this). We have been trying to only purchase the high quality long last version of any item instead of the cheapest one available. This has been difficult since the high quality is more expensive and its difficult to find what items are actually worth it instead of a brand name. Overall it difficult but being mindful of it has been helpful

TheGiantKorean,
@TheGiantKorean@lemmy.world avatar

This would be fantastic! I’ll look around in my area.

floppingfish, in What do you do to reduce your use of single use plastics?

We replaced liquid laundry detergent with powered , replaced shampoos and soaps in bottles with bar soap etc. And bought netting bags to replace plastic bags

tdawg,

I started using those “eco sheets” for my laundry and they work just as well. The big win is the container is the size of your hand and is made of cardboard

TheGiantKorean,
@TheGiantKorean@lemmy.world avatar

We switched to these also, and they work great. We also tried this with dishwasher detergent, though, and didn’t have as much luck. Maybe it was the brand we chose.

mx_smith, in Those of you with lesser-known types of jobs...what do you do?

I used to work as a line stander on Capitol Hill in DC. You get paid to stand in line for lobbyists for hearings and committees. Many times your there a day before and camping out overnight with all the other line standers. It’s like an old school concert ticket environment, if you ever camped out for concert tickets back in the day.

PhlubbaDubba,

I feel like that shouldn’t be legal…

johnyrocket,

Just like lobbying!

mx_smith,

Actually the lobbyist are the ones that do most of the hiring for that position. I worked for the Dutko group at the time, before that I was a bike messenger and they get those jobs all the time.

CameronDev, in Is it normal that some domain name registrars and hosting companies have an unsecured connection?

Probably not normal. And a bit sus?

Pulptastic, in Those of you with lesser-known types of jobs...what do you do?

I’m a metals engineer. I design and monitor processes to make metals with the right properties for a given application. That means lots of testing to prove it was done right, and testing usually means breaking shit to make sure it has enough strength and ductility.

It has pros and cons. The money is good and demand is higher than supply so it is pretty easy to find a good job, but it is a niche field so I have to go where the work is and aw(mm usually they put these places in the middle of nowhere in shitty republican states that have great corporate tax policies. It is also pretty much exclusively on-site work which means I have very limited choices of where I live.

I am a polymath and am good at lots of mathy sciencey things, I’m hindsight I probably would have picked something that allows for remote work. TBF remote work wasn’t much of a thing in 1995 when I chose this field but I wish now that I could work remotely.

All that said it is a good time and has treated me well so far.

jkchoc, in Those of you with lesser-known types of jobs...what do you do?

I’m a Dev(Sec)Ops Engineer, so I’m basically the guy who makes all the funky stuff in the background so developers can write their apps/websites and automatically roll them out on different environments and versions, also im more or less adding a bunch of tools for this and different platforms so the devs can do that autonomously without me being there 24/7

LaChaleurDeLaNuit,

So you’re like the ultimate boss of developers, you develop so developers can develop.

gsfraley,

Hell yeah! I basically could’ve written this myself word-for-word

marx2k, in Those of you with lesser-known types of jobs...what do you do?

Idon’t currently work. I got rich designing a very specific ball bearing used in those fidget spinners that we really big a few years ago.

Just kidding. But it would make for a cool "so what do you do? " intro

jeremyparker,

I’m no bearings expert but my gut tells me that if I were to start making cheap toys for kids that centered around bearings that had no significant durability or precision requirements, I would probably not opt for a bearing design that was rare or expensive or unique.

In fact, I’d probably go knocking on doors of those companies that do have strict requirements and be like, gimme all the ones that failed inspection.

In fact #2, if i wanted to retire and make everyone in Lemmy threads like this one jealous, I’d start thinking about what other high precision parts probably get thrown out if they fail inspection, that I could buy for next to nothing, and how I could make that into a toy.

Parts of machines are cool. Parts of machines that are crafted to high standards of precision are cool. The toy probably invents itself. Going viral and getting as popular as fidget spinners tho… That seems harder.

themeatbridge, in Would it make sense to have #CashAwarenessMonth

Maybe we could all wear our shoes on our hands and sing showtunes in the airport parking lot.

What the fuck are you talking about?

naut,

To show that you care for your life time you gave away.

Iamdanno, in Those of you with lesser-known types of jobs...what do you do?

I stumbled into the field of construction cost estimating, because I wasn’t watching where I was going, and it has been good to me. There’s only an education/certification requirement for the companies that do the largest commercial projects (at least in my region). However, there’s a pretty large job market because there are a ton of smaller commercial & residential builders.

I’ll never be wealthy, but I make a decent living, and my work/life balance is good. I primarily work in the office, but get out in the field enough to keep it from getting boring. There is also a good ability to move up into project management, which can pay better, but also has a higher stress level in general.
