“Hey Google…Release the kraken”.

6mementomori, in What is the name of your cleaning robot?

i am my own cleaning robot! :)

stolid_agnostic, in Where can I NEUTRALLY keep up to date about the Palestina/Israel situation?

NPR/PBS is generally the way to go. Some bias can creep in, but they do their best.

Yep. Why is this? I stopped buying games because I end up sticking to the same ones and types that give me the most joy, where I feel like I’m achieving something and not wasting my time.

If i open a game now that’s too difficult to learn, has too many key options, is too bright for or hard on the eyes, is gory, doesn’t have bag space and wants to nickel and dime me for it, etc…I just stop. Red Dead Redemption - beautiful game and I crave to go back. It is too difficult and causes me so much stress. Not worth it. There was this other game I wanted to play. The controls and interface was just awful. Look around the world caused motion sickness and hurt the eyes. WoW - toxic community.

When you get older, I think you learn what works for you. What feels comfortable. What feels good. What makes you happy. Because that’s what you’re there for, to be happy.

icedterminal,

Wow has taken such a bad turn in cultivating a toxic community.

surewhynotlem, in What are some good (and free) webcomics?

I’m showing my age here, but 8-bit theater is fun

akhenaten0,

Oh wow, that takes me back. That and RPG World, by lil’ baby Ian Jones-Quartey.

Sigh. Times are tough.

Atomic, in Gamers who have gamed for a long time

Play whatever you enjoy. Maybe you feel like you don’t have the time to sit down and invest yourself in a story die to other commitments like work or family. That’s normal.

It’s your free time. Gaming should be a fun hobby, not a chore.

Wish more games would have a “I have not played this in a month and need a quick recap” mode.

vinceman, in Where can I NEUTRALLY keep up to date about the Palestina/Israel situation?

I think CBC has had very fair reporting on the subject.

MeanyMellow, in What are some good (and free) webcomics?

Personally a big fan of hiveworks for finding new comics. If you like story focused ones, I like Widdershins, Sakana, Daughter of the Lilies, and Wilde Life. I read way too many webcomics, so let me know if you need more!

Oh shit thanks for so many recommendations!

electrogamerman, in Gamers who have gamed for a long time

For me the main reason is that games are the exact same with better graphics.I already spent hundreds of hours in one game getting better, unlocking shit, learning the maps. Why would I want to start from scratch for another game that is the exact same gameplay.

Nowadays I will only get into a game if it’s something I have never played before, and Pokemon games that I know what I am doing already and I just do. But starting a new shooter, new adventure game, rpg, etc, its just the same in green for me.

Agent641, in Why wasn't NYC's Central Park concept copied by other cities?

Kings park, Perth.

Bigger than central park and high up on the only hill for miles

Dagwood222,

One of the great design tricks of Central Park is that at almost every entrance you go downhill. You are instantly cut off from the city noise.

elscallr, in Where can I NEUTRALLY keep up to date about the Palestina/Israel situation?
@elscallr@lemmy.world avatar

This is a topic that has centuries of history, dating back well before the existence of either Israel or Palestine as countries. You won’t find a single source that can actually get into the thousands of nuances involved. Don’t think there are only two sides, either. Read from everywhere, make up your own mind, but honestly you’ll never fully understand it.

Krudler, in How does one be a good mod?

Just from my personal experience relating to banworthy things.

Make the rules clear and unambiguous and include the penalty for breach within the rule body itself.

And have an absolute heart of stone. When you ban somebody, you quote the rule, and you do not add any personal narrative. You ignore every appeal for decency or clemency. If somebody cannot be bothered to read and follow the rules, they have already forfeited the right to be a part of your community in any way. Do not allow yourself to be swayed.

Even if there is some ambiguity or sense of injustice, that’s just too bad so sad. “Oh no, I don’t get to post for 24 hours on some random forum about some bullshit that doesn’t really matter”. Wah. If they can’t get over it, they weren’t going to add anything useful to your community anyways.

If somebody sends you an appeal and you don’t want to argue with them, simply don’t argue with them. If they keep coming at you, making your life hard, or swearing at you, just keep extending the ban or make it perma.

We aren’t dealing with bars of gold here, it’s mostly random horseshit posted to communities that we talk about for a few days and then forget we even saw. I mean I loved the community that I built and nurtured for 14 years but really at the end of the day after I walked away from Reddit from the API changes, I haven’t noticed one iota of difference in my life.

Kit, in Why wasn't NYC's Central Park concept copied by other cities?

Pittsburgh has three major parks in the city limits - Point State Park downtown, which is a small area that hosts events, Schenley Park which has plenty of hiking, biking, and fishing, and Frick Park which is massive and allows you to get lost in the forest in the middle of the city. It’s a great way to get out of crowded areas without traveling.

Snapz, in Why wasn't NYC's Central Park concept copied by other cities?

Didn’t Los Angeles have central green space (not on the scale of central park in NYC, but large) that was gradually eaten away and paved over with time?

PrincessLeiasCat, (edited ) in Gamers who have gamed for a long time

Same. 100%. I don’t love it though, tbh. I’d love to get immersed in something new again.

And MP has always been toxic, but goddamn…as a woman you just get sick of some of the shit you hear. I have to straight up turn text chat off, and it’s rare that I go on mic chat even though good communication would help a game so much.
