Don’t go for the conservative position. I chose the same path a year ago and - as others said - hate every second of work there. The higher salary is not worth the bad time you’ll likely have. This is only my personal experience but maybe it helps you avoid the same mistake I did.
Check out Wonderfalls. It’s one of the stranger things I’ve seen, but quite brilliant. The Good Place reminded me of it in many ways, although they are very different shows.
Insight global is an alright company if you go the contracting route. They were one of the few that would actually get involved when there were issues with the client.
Contracting is tough right now with the limited options and the very volatile market, at least in the US. I’m about to be unemployed at the end of November unless I can find something.
Financial institutions are very regulated and it is usually a pretty solid job to have - I did 5 years at JPMC and 2 at Huntington. But beware they’ll fuck you over if you ever refuse to toe the line or want an actual work life balance.
The mega travel center in the South Eastern US, called Buc-ee’s, does have these indicators. However the last time my family was there, my wife encountered a Karen who was concerned she couldn’t tell which stalls were open and my wife pointed out the red occupied/green unoccupied indicator on the locks and she was like, “No, I don’t know, I’ll wait for someone to leave.”
Can’t believe it took so long to actually listen to Staight outta Compton, but that has some interesting observations on race and law enforcement in America.
Tacoma FD, Letterkenny, Shoresy, Miracle Workers, Poker Face, Resident Alien, Ghosts (US), The White Lotus, Shrinking, Ash vs Evil Dead, The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr.
Can definitely plus one on letterkenny, Ash vs evil Dead is really good once you get past the first episode if you are squeamish about horror themes, and the adventures of brisco county junior is always a solid winner.
If you like sci-fi comedy and British humor I would also possibly throw Red dwarf into the pile.
Honestly something that’s worth looking into is building homes with habitat for humanity (or any other organizations doing the same thing).
It’s pretty strenuous exercise and is good for you. Make sure to not abuse your body however and learn how to avoid doing so (i.e keeping back straight and squatting instead of bending over).
The most important aspect is learning carpentry, which is extremely good knowledge to have. It’s not just learning a new skill and an option for a new career but its the money it saves you. A carpenter is a jack of all trades and is far from just framing 2x4s. You learn a little plumbing, some electrician work, framing, finishing and repairing drywall and some more.
Granted a lot of it is pretty surface level but for a lot of repairs and installs around the house it’s all you need. Instead of paying like 1000$ for someone go install a toilet, do it yourself. Install outlets and light switches yourself, build basic custom furniture and shelves yourself. You become very self sufficient and it can save you so much money.
