Legalize and regulate the drug trade and prostitution. Would overnight make those activities significantly less harmful and you would be able to put all that blank check DEA money into treatments and going after child traffickers which is the only market that shouldnt be regulated or exist. Wow. Problem fucking solved. Let them keep their avocadoes and shit. Boom, we just solved billions of dollars worth of problems and can actually use these things to better society for ourselves and the people that the cartel terrorize with this shit. Almost like, they dont want the problem to be solved.
A thing to remember is that legal prostitution is still a vector in the human trafficking trade. Even where itâs legal, women are forcefully relocated to those nations and forced to work.
Most of the prostitution issues would be handled, but you would still need to account for it.
You would have to make it legal everywhere or at least as many places as possible. The world followed the US lead on the drug war Im sure they could follow our lead with this too. Especially if you could demonstrate how it would hurt these criminal operations. If prostitution is legalized in 70% of countries, you just destroyed 70% of their human trafficking operations. Yes there would be the remaining 30% of countries but they already are experiencing that the demand isnt going to go up 70% in those few remaining 30% of countries.
Even in countries where prostitution is legal women are being trafficked against their will to those countries to be forced into sex work.
Theyâre already being trafficked to the US to be forced into prostitution, why would they care if itâs legalized. It wouldnât affect their trafficking.
But I also feel you may be inflating the ramifications of legalization of drugs and prostitution. I believe it was Canada or one of the US states where the cost of legally sold Marijuana was still too high and people turned to their old dealers. Youâd see the cartel enter the market again with cheaper, more dangerous options for those who canât afford the higher priced, taxed, and regulated products.
We can regulate those who wish to operate above board, but you canât stop the pipeline.
Iâm in New Orleans (so, a Texas neighbor?) and they canceled school and closed most of the major bridges because it rained the day it was getting colder. So, there was ice on the roads and bridges freeze quicker.
The biggest hassle (besides finding childcare) is that our homes are often raised off the ground and it barely ever freezes. So, you have exposed water pipes that can freeze and potentially burst when it gets that cold. Youâre supposed to leave a faucet on a steady stream while itâs below freezing, which is basically always just a few hours overnight.
We donât have the same issues as Texas with power in hot/cold weather. I think those are about policy choices unique to Texas.
I wouldnât call Republicans winning by 10% of the vote to be overwhelming. I think that kind of narrative only serves to help Republicans by reinforcing the idea that itâs hopeless for democrats to win. Also doesnât help that a lot of media only talk about elections and not the 2 week early voting period that we have. Itâs so bizarre that early voting isnât as well-known, given that TX was one of, if not the first, state to enact an early voting period over 40 years ago. NY only just started early voting a couple years ago!
Ded. Iâd be nothing but a mass of stitches and have been burned enough times, if that didnât heal id be dead.
Slow healing is the one thing I notice the most about getting older. Iâm in good shape and all, well nourished, itâs not lifestyle. I broke my finger and it took two years to heal completely. As a kid that would have been 6 weeks, at 50 something it took 104 weeks.

Iâm just happy we didnât lose power or water. Had to cancel some appointments because I didnât want to risk driving even though there was barely any precipitation (therefore ice). Now I hope my car starts when I go out later.
Other have said it, but there wasnât the freezing rain like last time.
That being said, it still didnât stop my brain from turning every single pop and groan of the house settling into âthe pipes just burst, now panic!â, so that suckedâŠ
But roads are clear, the frost isnât sticking and so far *knocks on wood, i still have power.
School was canceled due to the poor road conditions, so I had fun at home. My '94 ford ranger doesnât traction control or winter tires, so I drifted around my front lawn.
Iâm 20 miles south of Sherman TX and while I didnât see nearly as much snow/ice as they did I did get a lovely stealth ice that coated my neighborhood. Temps got to 7-8°f I was prepared and we were comfortable. Until today I hadnât heard of any busted pipes but my office and some other people have been flooded by them now lol.
People panic bought on the weekend which was fun to watch.
