sbv, in Other than Lemmy, what are you doing tonight?

Getting buzzed and gaming. Not a great evening.

Mereo,

It’s good to be a Canadian :)

O_i,

I think that’s a great evening

sbv,

It’s okay from time to time. I’ve been doing it too much recently.

Stache_,

Well it’s good you recognize that at least. Moderation is key

9715698,

I was doing that a lot over the holidays, and decided to do a dry January. It is doing wonders for my gaming nights. You could try it next month (shortest one of the year, so a little less commitment).

dmention7,

I hope you find yourself soon in a place where getting buzzed and gaming is a positive instead of negative

Cheers 🤜

ohlaph,

Sounds like a great time though.

RememberTheApollo,

This is acceptable. Not an everyday thing, but Friday? Sure.

sharkfucker420, in If Trump loses in 2024, do you think he'd run in 2028?
@sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml avatar

Running for his life I hope

tourist, in What are some problems that countries outside the U.S. are dealing with?
@tourist@lemmy.world avatar

South Africa: Major energy crisis

Global: ADHD drug shortage

vivavideri,

AGAIN?!

tourist,
@tourist@lemmy.world avatar

It never ended

I’m guessing the lack of ADHD medication led some of those in charge of solving the problems to procrastinate.

vivavideri,

I had to switch to generic Vyvanse, at first because they couldn’t get brand out here, but now because insurance is like lol fuck you get generic or we won’t bother covering it

cactus_head,
@cactus_head@programming.dev avatar

I feel like those two problems could solve each other

Today,

Like a hamster wheel setup? They’re too distracted to stay on the wheel.

Vanth, in What are some problems that countries outside the U.S. are dealing with?
@Vanth@reddthat.com avatar

Australia is getting battered with storms rn with several people killed. Fights over tax cuts for the wealthy. Protests over Gaza and immigration policies. The largest specimen ever of the most venomous type of spider was found; it will now be used in a venom-milking program to help make antivenoms, because no matter what’s going on the tropes must be fulfilled.

FoxyFerengi, in Seeking Perspectives: Trans Athletes in Women's Sports

If we ban trans women who’ve been on estrogen for two+ years bared on genetics, then we should also ban athletes with genetic advantages like Michael Phelps. I’m not in favor of banning people

PeepinGoodArgs, in What are some problems that countries outside the U.S. are dealing with?

Island nations are facing rising sea levels thanks to climate change.

someguy3, (edited )

Really it’s time to abandon a lot of islands. And Florida. Damn I should buy a house before that migration happens. But I guess Floridians would want somewhere warm so Texas, Alabama, etc are gonna get it.

Empricorn, in What are some problems that countries outside the U.S. are dealing with?

Joker, in If Trump loses in 2024, do you think he'd run in 2028?

I hope he will be running from a psycho with a shank at ADX Florence in 2028. There’s a decent chance he will be dead in 2028 though. He’s not exactly the picture of fitness and good health. He’s an old, fat pig who lives on junk food.

More seriously, he has zero chance in 2028 if he loses in 2024, which is almost certainly what will happen. He’s been decisively rejected by voters once already. I find it hard to believe he has won over any new voters with his behavior since the last election.

Or maybe the government will step up and treat him like the terrorist that he is. If it was anyone else, they’d be waterboarding him with Diet Coke at Guantanamo right now. I mean, he’s openly calling for states to send the National Guard to Texas to fight the federal government. This fucker is on trial for insurrection and he’s out trying to incite another insurrection. Holy shit.

He’s had his deranged followers make threats against judges, prosecutors, federal agents, etc. He’s threatened his opponent in the primaries with a federal investigation if she doesn’t drop out of the race. He’s threatened her donors.

This dude is straight up nuts. I think it’s a legitimate question whether he’s eventually detained for the safety of the public pending his trials. At what point do the feds have an obligation to protect the country from this lunatic?

Forget about him and 2028. He might not even make it through 2024.

Heir_Of_Isildur,

Weeds don’t die. I wouldn’t be surprised if the fat fuck chokes on a burger tomorrow… But i also wouldn’t be surprised if he lives another 20 years

Crewman,

Yeah, shitty thing about death is it kind of just does what it wants.

kromem, in So is the US slipping into Civil War?

I mean, isn’t this kind of keeping with the theme of US civil wars so far?

If I was creating a civil war bingo card based on history of civil wars in the US, “starts over how people with darker skin can be abused or not” would certainly have been on it.

AstridWipenaugh,

There was a very real economic driver for slavery. Totally morally bankrupt, but it’s a reason. This is pure malice for the sake of a culture war.

WhiteOakBayou, in What's something you're proud of doing?

I took up an instrument for the first time in my late 30s and have gotten okay at it. If I was 8 years old people would nod politely to my parents after my recital.

BackOnMyBS,
@BackOnMyBS@lemmy.world avatar

what instrument? what songs are you playing, or are you originating music??

WhiteOakBayou,

Mandolin. Playing Bach, American folk standards and children’s songs. Started la vie en rose tonight. No original material but it’s been fun to do something I, for a reason I no longer remember, thought was beyond me. My wife loves it. My kids are annoyed that I follow them around like a restaurant mariachi playing the same songs over and over lol.

BackOnMyBS,
@BackOnMyBS@lemmy.world avatar

Sounds fun. Don’t forget about Losing My Religion! I play guitar and drums. When I first started with guitar, I only played covers as if the only thing that mattered was my technical capacity. Once I learned a scale out if curiosity, I discovered a wholeeeee new world. I no longer bother with covers. I hope you find some courage to engage in creating something new, and if you do, please share it with me if you feel comfortable 🙂

WhiteOakBayou,

Thanks for the tip about scales. Music theory has been on my mind as something to learn after I get technically good but maybe I should move it up in the batting order.

PP_BOY_, in What are some problems that countries outside the U.S. are dealing with?

krondo,

Came here to post this :)

stmcld,

Lol same, but i see a few people beat us to it.

Evkob, (edited ) in What are some problems that countries outside the U.S. are dealing with?
@Evkob@lemmy.ca avatar

We usually just import American issues but with a 2 to 5 year delay.

TropicalDingdong,

You’ll be very excited to know that we’re currently working on the Civil War Two: Baka Texas expansion pack. We should have it out of the beta stage and into production here in a few weeks, and you’ll be hearing about it non-stop until forever!

DragonTypeWyvern,

I’m personally excited for the release after that, Christian Hunting Season. The evangelicals have been hyping it for a while, they’re honestly so into it I’m a little worried it’s a fetish thing but it certainly sounds like a good time!

Evkob,
@Evkob@lemmy.ca avatar

The Brexit clusterfuck was prior to the Trump clusterfuck, and certainly prior to Texit.

Shit, chief neoliberal shithead Reagan is just Thatcher with a USA badge slapped on the front.

okamiueru,

Weirdly how well both aligned with Russian interests.

perviouslyiner,

Brexit was the practice run for trying to influence an election

jubilationtcornpone, in What's something you're proud of doing?

I have three kids. I was present for the birth of the youngest two. But I adopted my oldest. She was 12 so she had to tell the judge she was OK with it. I told her it came with two conditions: Nothing between us needed to change and she didn’t have to call me “Dad”. She calls me by first name to my face but she calls me “dad” behind my back. I’ll take it.

Jimmyeatsausage, (edited ) in So is the US slipping into Civil War?

A lot of you all must be too young to remember. This isn’t a new thing for Texas to do. They threatened to secede at least once (maybe twice) while Obama was president. Once it was straight out of the North Korean playbook, claiming a training exercise the military was conducting was a cover for a military invasion of Texas.

Seasoned_Greetings,

The Dollop did a podcast on Jade Helm as it was happening. Definitely recommend listening to that one if you like American history podcasts. It’s episode 100 I believe

HipHoboHarold,

And thats why I’m not worried about them doing anything other than what they’re already doing. They know they would be fucked if they leave.

And if they do? Well then we deal with it when that time comes. Hopefully a bunch of left leaning people leave, including my brother and his wife, and a bunch of MAGAts can go there and talk about how much they love America while also leaving it.

DangedIfYouDid,

They’d have no issue, they already consider everything outside of their small town to be Fake America.

The older I get the more I eyeroll at the political posturing. It’s definitely worse than when I was younger, but also it’s all happened before. It’s just loud people trying to be loud to keep us all afraid and obediently going to work, then every 4 years it gets loud again so we vote for who they want us to.

Real convenient the border is such a huge issue a few months before the election.

Of course we still have to take it seriously, the minute we let our guard down they start implementing stuff, look at roe v wade, but even then they didn’t know what to do after that. It’s all about staying in power for them

hglman,

When was it worse, why?

RampantParanoia2365,

Ok, but we also haven’t had such extreme right wingers in mainstream government before.

And also, what about the National Guard thing?

CosmicCleric,
@CosmicCleric@lemmy.world avatar

So much this.

jandar_fett, (edited )

I get what you’re saying, but at some point we have to admit that there really aren’t any adults at the table. A direct example is the governments covid response and another more recent is the emergence of the so-called freedom caucus. Basically I subscribe to the depressing notion that all these fuck head fascists that came before have sewn their seeds and now there is an alarmingly large amount of the populace who have drank the koolaid, made from those seeds, and even worse is a lot of the original sewers (heh), have lost the thread and are drinking their own koolaid…

ohitsbreadley, (edited )

Texas has made an issue over their independence and God-given right to be Texas, in defense of their the right to own chattel slavery since their first secession. From Mexico. In 1836.

Texas reconfirmed their desire to die on the hill of their divine right to own people, by seceding from the US in 1861.

After the civil war, Texas was a haven for the Confederates - and their ideology has been fomenting ever since

They’ve been talking of secession openly since at least the 1990s.

I think this is the first time since the civil war that other states have involved their national guards in support of a hotbed issue that could lead to a secession.

Edit: correction to grammatical error.

ediculous, in If Trump loses in 2024, do you think he'd run in 2028?

Idk, y’all. The biggest assholes never die. They stay alive out of sheer spite.

Mycatiskai,

How long did Kissinger stay alive. That monster was responsible for hundreds of thousands of deaths all around the world.
