Any extension to re-enable right click. It’s annoying when they try to block me from downloading a picture/video, copy pasting, or inspecting elements

Konstant,

Someone mentioned Don’t Fuck with Paste

ilinamorato,

You don’t need an extension. Shift+right click always overrides JavaScript.

Redirector

Add custom URL redirects, e.g. automatically use Piped or Invideous instance instead of YouTube, use Nitter instead of Twitter, remove Google amp

Edit: I just found out about Libredirect from this post - seems like functionally the same thing I’m using Redirector for, but with rules built in.

macattack, (edited )

Yeah same. I initially used it for YouTube/Twitter but realized that it’s reinventing the wheel that libredirect already created, and doesnt have the same features like pinging instances or being able to cycle through instances if one goes down.

I still find redirector useful, but now use it for things like redirecting away from guilty pleasure websites or when my locally-hosted teddit doesn’t properly handle internal links.

ilinamorato,

I had never thought about using Redirector to lock myself out of websites! That’s brilliant. I need to do that. Zero self control when I should be working.

hawgietonight, in Have you ever learned anything on the spot?

I learnt (the hard way):

  • There are electrified fences
  • You don’t learn to wheelie while clipped in
  • Some dogs shouldn’t be touched
  • Binging on sugar free candy will keep you close to the toilet.

Just recently I found out that my new razer mouse can enable/disable scroll wheel indexation by pressing the small button next to it.

Passerby6497,

You don’t learn to wheelie while clipped in

I’m curious about the story for this one.

hawgietonight,

Picture 18 y/o me in the 90’s with my new Marin Bear Valley SE and trick wellgo clipless pedals. No YouTube at the time, so had to figure stuff out intuitively… so I started to practice doing wheelies (while clipped in), and before you know it, I overshoot it a bit and my inexperience getting loose from the pedals had me land hard on my back.

Now doing tricks with the bike is second nature, but it did take some bruises. Just remember to cover the rear brake ;)

As a college student, my must have plugins are

  • DarkReader
  • Firefox Multi-Account Containers
  • Sponsorblock
  • TWP - Translate Web Pages

and the goat itself, >!uBlock Origin!<

const_void,

I find DarkReader to be pretty slow. You might want to look at Stylus. It works on a per site basis but it’s much faster.

Thank you for the suggestion, will take a look at it.

deegeese, in Just an idea to make the Fediverse better, what do you think about it?

I’m a developer and I use OAuth 2.0 for work but half of this is Greek to me. You should post in a developer forum instead of general Ask Lemmy.

thecookingsenpai,
@thecookingsenpai@lemmy.world avatar

True, I just wanted to be more generic before going technical (this is very vague from a tech point of view so i was testing how the idea could be reacted)

deegeese,

You should explain the problem you’re trying to solve instead of diving into your proposed implementation.

Will add, you are totally right

helpmyusernamewontfi, in what is a parental advice you wish you could give to your father/mother before they had you?

Don’t force your child to play mind games with their other parent or try forcing them to read out loud their entire text message history or explain their entire conversation they had with their other parent.

Don’t force them to lie to their other parent but also try and force them to tell you every lie the other parent made.

Don’t yell and scream at them or act pouty and manipulative when they say “No”.

If you have a problem with your partner take it with then directly, if its not fixable then don’t be together. Just please don’t use your child to manipulate your partner into depression or anger and force your kid to “choose a side”, it’ll make them resent you both.

merde,

i’m sorry to read that you had to go through that

Blisterexe, in Have you ever learned anything on the spot?

You can hold down spacebar or left click to fast forward thru a YouTube video!

PM_Your_Nudes_Please,

You can do the same thing on tiktok. Hold near the left side of the screen, and it’ll play at 2x speed.

Jarix, in Have you ever learned anything on the spot?

That I can change the cursor position when typing by sliding left and right on the space bar (key?)

And also if you long press the enter key it brings up a shortcut for emojis/gifs

Bitrot,
@Bitrot@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

On iOS you can also move up and down between lines and select text with the spacebar (hold space, tap on keyboard somewhere else with another finger, drag space to select).

Jarix,

Neat for ios users!

macattack,

I’m a recent convert myself. Definitely underrated and if you experience any issues with the publicly hosted versions, they are often resolved through customization if you host your own docker instance

Fogle, in Is it possible to replace a damaged audio cable with a non audio cable?

Are you just talking about using a usb cable that came with a mouse to plug in a USB speaker?

Sticker,

Headphones

Fogle,

If they’re usb yeah basically every USB cable is the same. Just plug whatever cable in and see if there’s any issue

sharkfucker420, (edited ) in Does tinned food have any nutrition or is it just empty calories?
@sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml avatar

It has most of the nutritional value it had before it was canned but some vitamins degrade pretty rapidly.

One of the factors in food preservation and nutrition is the stability of different vitamins. Specifically, there are water-soluble and fat-soluble vitamins.

Water-soluble vitamins dissolve in water. They are less stable and more affected by processing and include folate, thiamine, and vitamin C. Fat-soluble vitamins dissolve in fat. They’re more stable and include water, vitamin A, D, E, and K. Fat-soluble vitamins are less effected by cooking and preserving.

Basically it depends on what the food is and how it is preserved

If I’m honest with you though there is no harm in eating canned food and no such thing as “empty calories” all of your daily nutrients are important and you should get them but not meeting you daily quota isn’t such a huge deal as long as it isn’t especially consistent. Calories are your fuel but you can think of vitamins and micro nutrients as your oil that keeps things running smoothly.

If your diet is primarily canned goods I would recommend taking a multivitamin or altering your diet to include fresh produce containing those water soluble vitamins.

rdyoung,

I would argue that anything with more carbs, sugar, etc than fat and protein is by definition empty calories and in the case of soda and juice (yes even fruit juice) it’s even worse because of the complete lack of nutrients and what sugar does to your insulin response, hunger response, etc.

You can and people do make breads that are heavier and packed with more nutrients. I don’t remember the specifics but simply letting dough rise for longer than you usually would does add some nutrients but it’s still not outweighed by the negative effects of a carb heavy diet.

Phen, in Have you ever learned anything on the spot?

A ton of stuff. One that I figured out by myself and not many people seem to know is that in most softwares you can triple click on a word to select a full paragraph of text (double click selects the word). It works on code editors and IDEs as well, to select one line of code.

corsicanguppy,

“softwares” makes as much sense as “traffics” or “emails”; i.e. none. And now you’ve learned something more.

joranvar,

Thanks! I’ve used emails as a plural of email for a long time, referring to the messages. Not a native speaker, maybe it’s something Dutch people do with some loanwords. Never softwares or the (more recent) codes, though.

Lemminary,

Nah, people do say “emails” all the time and it’s perfectly fine.

Eg. “But her emails!”

joranvar,

Heh, thanks. I did just look up what people on StackExchange thought about it, and in short: both are correct, although the word originated as a mass noun (uncountable).

favrion,
@favrion@lemmy.world avatar

I have also discovered that accidentally.

intensely_human, in Do you feel a UBI is more left- or right-wing (or other) and why?

I think it’s left because it’s a social support thing, and I think it’s right because it’s super simple and puts power in the hands of individuals to choose how to spend it.

As a libertarian, I support UBI because I think a society with UBI has more liberty than one without it. I’m a conservative, so I abhor complex government, where petty tyranny can hide under the guise of policy. And UBI is simple.

Cowbee,

Leftism is about worker ownership of the Means of Production, rightism is about Capitalist ownership of the Means of Production. You’re adding extra values onto it that don’t actually exist. For an example, conservatives are de facto for large government, at least in America, just with no social protections and a huge military and police system. Being “simple” isn’t right wing either.

Urist,
@Urist@lemmy.ml avatar

Just popping in to say the level of reflection and accurate analysis between you and parent comment is dazzling. Spot on, friend.

Cowbee,

Thanks, buddy! I try to give analysis from a leftist perspective without using big theory words that might scare off non-leftists or baby leftists, I find people tend to accept and agree with leftist theory if broken down in basic building blocks. Have a good one!
