jjjalljs, in whats a song you heard for the first time recently that gave you a powerful reaction?

Recently? This song is just the kind of menacing I like: wolvennest.bandcamp.com/track/accabadora

I was making a playlist for my friend’s Halloween party and found this album. Though a different friend was like “this song makes me feel… something I don’t know if I like it”

It's nice to be able to stay connected while out and about. Having features like maps helps when lost somewhere. You can keep store cards and such in your phone to scan instead of having to physically carry everything. I went to a conference for work a week ago that required use of an app in order to register for labs.

Teknikal, in What makes a smartphone useful to you?

I mean it does everything really, mp3 player, GPS, Internet, compass (maps), communication even games. That said I am a little disappointed because they have been removing things like headphone Jack’s, Sd cards and I really thought at this point we would all have flir cams etc on every phone.

Google Lens is definitely a real lifesaver when you want to instantly translate the menus.

For me the most important thing about my smartphone is battery life. It needs to have USB-C for convenient charging and accessories - I have tiny USB-C DAC with headphone jack that drives my wired headphones. Also I use it with my external SSDs while traveling to move data between devices.

The more sensors the better. I want a motherfucking tricorder.

___, in How do I reduce the squeaking of my faux leather sofa?

I just bought some leather conditioner. It’s oil like, but won’t hurt the faux leather (supposedly)

    ArgentRaven,

This is the real answer. If a hinge is squeaky, oil it. Same for leather. Faux leather is probably closer to polyurethane or plastic, but it mimics leather enough that leather conditioner should help. However, I would caution that you want to find a “leather conditioner” that specifically says it’s for your material. Whatever it is.

The problem is the surface is that type of smooth, high friction stuff that sticks to itself. If you condition the parts that touch each other, it’ll make it glide better.

I’m not a gamer, nor does my work rely on word or excel or PowerPoint. My phone had social media, music, podcasts, and what other apps I need.

I have a cheap laptop that gets used mostly for 3d printing stuff, and a smart TV with the various streaming services.

I have a pixel 7, and before that a pixel 4a. I never feel as though I’m missing out.

Just this morning I was listening to Ramsey Lewis - Only when I’m dreaming and I had to run it back a few times just to soak it in.

I have been slowly dipping my toes in Brother Ali the past few months, and recently listened to this for the first time. His voice is awesome but some of the words may be a little hard to catch. It's worth looking up the lyrics.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OO18F4aKGzQ

His voice is like caramel in my ears (in the most complimentary way), but it's his lyrics that get me in this and a few others.

    TheFarm,

I first discovered Brother Ali coming down off a bunch of LSD, and that was some ear candy at the time. He’ll always have a special place in my musical heart.

Kolanaki, in whats a song you heard for the first time recently that gave you a powerful reaction?
    @Kolanaki@yiffit.net avatar

Fucking meme songs… Literally. Two specific ones I had heard a while in meme videos always sped up so I couldn’t understand the words. Find the original songs, Pretty Boy by Naethan Apollo and Cupid, Twin Version by FIFTY-FIFTY.

I definitely feel the lyrics hella hard to both after hearing them legitimately for the first time. To a lesser degree, The UwU Song is fucking hilarious.
