BigGovernment, in Do you interact more in Lemmy?

Significantly more here. I never really liked Reddit, but a couple of my hobbies had communities there so I felt like I had to use it. I stayed away from anything that wasn’t a niche personal interest and avoided the bigger subreddits and front page. Here I check out the front page frequently and am pretty generous with upvotes. It feels more like an investment in a community I want to be successful, and not like there’s anything intrinsic to Lemmy that encourages it.

foggy, in What are some activity examples that train finger or hand dexterity?

Guitar, piano.

Guitar and magic tricks.

Ideally both at the same time.

Piano playing and touch typing come to mind

Curious_Canid, in People who have those talking buttons for their pet, how long did it take for them to catch on, and do they really work?
@Curious_Canid@lemmy.ca avatar

Our dogs seemed to understand what they were, but weren’t interested in using them. We mostly had workable signals in place already. I think they just found the buttons unnecessary. And our husky mix comes pretty close to talking anyway.

Once your pet already has you trained they aren’t going to want start over. “Teaching an old human new tricks” is an idiom for a reason.

I tried Jerbora and now stick to Connect, haven’t tried boost coz Connect has been great recently

Kalothar, in People who have those talking buttons for their pet, how long did it take for them to catch on, and do they really work?

I have those buttons for my dog. He is a Red heeler and German Shepard mix, and is quite clever.

He pretty much learned to press them immediately, however the only ones he seems to use without prompting is the treat jar and the play buttons.

The rest like hungry, thirsty, and potty he has to be coaxed into using first.

otter,

Does he do other actions when he wants food/water/outside?

I’m picturing a dog annoyed that it has to use the buttons instead of being able to point at the water bowl 😄

DirigibleProtein, in Is there a way to dissolve or break down polyester fibers?

Gasoline. Not quite understanding your description, are there any plastic parts?

DirigibleProtein, in Do AI startups build their own AI or something else?

Yes

Moobythegoldensock, in How many patients can one doctor take care of per year? How many people can one farmer feed a year?

What you’re describing for healthcare would be direct primary care with a capitation pay model.

Traditional wisdom is that about 1% of a doctor’s patients need care per day, so a doctor with 2000 patients should see about 20 patients per day. This is about standard for your office-based, 20 minute appointment doctors. For direct primary care the number per day is lower: for example, if the doctor does 1 hour appointments, you’d be aiming to see about 8 patients per day, with a panel of about 800.

The doctor is likely going to expect to be paid about $400,000, possibly more if they have employees working for them.

DirigibleProtein, in You can remove *any* film from your memory. What do you pick and why?

Eat Pray Love. My girlfriend asked me to watch it with her and it was shit. Oddly, she didn’t like Wolf Creek.

Prismo, in What are some must-haves on your Halloween music playlist?

Dead man’s bones

CarlsIII, in What shows you want to see get canceled?

God, I am so sick of this shitty kind of negativity. If you don’t like a show, you don’t have to wait for it to get cancelled to decide to stop watching it. Just don’t watch it. Other people watch it, so let them have it.
