How Many Streaming Services Do You Have?

I remember when it was just Hulu for $5 and Netflix for $8. Saved $50 a month from cable. Now it seems we spend more. I have four. Max, Peacock, Paramount and Hulu. Prime doesn’t count because it sucks balls. (Only paying Netflix when next Stranger Things and Squid Game is released). Curious to see what the average Lemmer/Lemming (what do we call ourselves?) has?

Prime because it’s bundled with free shipping, I can’t remember the last time I opened up the app though.

I recently dropped Disney+ because I wasn’t watching enough to warrant the money. I’m burned out on Marvel and Star Wars.

A video platform for a very specific niche sport that is tough to find in the US. I keep the $5/month subscription year round, even out of season, because I actively want this group to succeed.

BottleOfAlkahest,

I pay $5 a year for dropout even though I don’t watch all of their content enough to probably warrant it some months. I tend to binge D20 and Um, actually mostly. But they’re a good company, making good content, and trying not to exploit anyone in the process. We need more of that and I’ve been lucky enough I can afford the $5 a month sub.

We kept ourselves to one for years. Now is zero.

RisingSwell,

For video content? Just YouTube. The rest doesn’t really interest me, I have access to a Netflix account but I haven’t used in in years, to the point where I’ll have to ask my mum what the password is again if I have a reason to use it

VanHalbgott,

Tubi, Pluto TV, Retro Crush, Filmrise, Crackle, and Plex are what I have on my iPhone.

Mostly just Tubi and Pluto TV.

diodorus,

I have only heard of like 1 of these

I don’t know if the free ones count

One: Emby.

I pay $13/year for a domain (that gets used across many self-hosted services), and another $6/mo for usenet access (provider + indexer) giving me access to anything I’d want to watch. Between Emby, Ombi, and the 'arr stack; I can open a webpage, search for new content, and click ‘download’; 15min later it’s in the library and ready to watch offline.

Currently sitting on a collection of 3500 movies and 35000 tv episodes that’s ever growing.

Disney and Hulu package. I’ve got three kids.

Amazon prime but for the Prime shipping.

I’m using my parents Paramount+ temporarily just to watch Star Trek.

Apple TV+ but only because I got 6 months free through playstation.

Prime Video (since it’s included with a prime membership), Spotify family (all spots filled), and kindle (if you consider it a “streaming” subscription).

None. Cancelled cable over 10 years ago, download what I want. I haven’t seen an ad in ages. I use uBlock and a VPN if I want to watch youtube, haven’t had any ads. The only ads I get are on the radio, but it’s free, that’s the way radio has always worked.

I only personally pay for Prime Video and Spotify. But I have access to Netflix, Hulu, Paramount+, HBO, and a handful of others.

And whatever I don’t have access to, I have a Plex server running Servarr/Radarr, which automatically syncs downloaded content from Plex’s watchlist. So I can just add something to my watchlist, and it’s available on Plex in the next 20-60 minutes (depending on that particular torrent’s speeds.)

WhiteOakBayou,

Prime but just for the shipping. Hbo max from my phone plan. Never watch anything on either. Get all my media elsewhere

One. It’s all you really need. Watch what you want on it for a month. Then cancel and sign up for another. Repeat.

As others have pointed out, you can get a lot of services for free, even if just for a while. Cell phone plans, Target Circle, Best Buy, and other places frequently send out freebie codes or include services with membership.

I have two: YouTube Premium and Disney+

My reasoning:

YT Premium comes with my Google One subscription which gives 100GB storage on their cloud and YT Music (which is, in my opinion, better than Spotify - there are better mixes and Spotify doesn't do great with Japanese songs, which I listen to a lot)

Disney+ because my gf got me into Marvel and I watch the new series' (plus Star Wars and classics from my youth like Kim Possible)

For other content (like the Office), I just use Stremio with Torrentio. Disney+ is still worth it because it's a pain to set up the HDMI every time and I'm peak lazy

Not a streaming service, but if you have a partner you should really look into Regal Unlimited / AMC's variant of that. Movie dates are great and there are always enough new movies to keep you going, plus you can sneak snacks in super easily in a bag (even just a full bag of popcorn lol). You can watch and rewatch like 10 movies in the theater a month if you want lol, plus it gets you out-of-the-house. It's not for everyone, but worth it for us!!

Kadaj21,

Prime only because it’s included. Otherwise my VPN and the high seas. Might consider youtube premium for the family account to get rid of ads but trying to see if I can get Pihole or something working.

NoneYa,

I was a bit like you until I canceled Prime because of the price hike. I hate to say I might go back but trying to hold out for a while out of principle.

But I have a Pihole and nothing I’ve done has blocked YouTube ads. It seems to be the case for a lot of people because YouTube hosts the videos on the same server as the ads so if you block the ads, you block the videos.

I keep checking every so often just to see if someone has a blocklist that works though.

Kadaj21,

I did recently grab one of those ONN android tv boxes and started tinkering (we have 2 Roku TVs and a ooold LCD with a Roku box for the kiddos). I was able to get a new launcher on it, debloat it, and then put SmartTube on it which does omit adds and also has sponserblock on it. Not sure how much space it has but i also installed RetroArch (I think) and see how it does with some 90s gaming. I at least connected my 8bitdo controller to it via bluetooth and was navigating around. Pretty happy with it for $19 so far.

Big on Plex here ^_^

Donjuanme,

Game pass, GeForce now, YouTube premium, Hulu, Netflix, Apple, Disney, Max, Amazon prime, Paramount, and Grandma just insisted we sign up for peacock to watch the football games.

I want to cancel paramount and Disney, but some family members really enjoy some shows on it.
