I made a list of FOSS apps for AndroidTV

Thanks!

MxRemy, in In case you missed it: Fossify (A fork of Simple Mobile Tools)

Ooooh including the keyboard?? I’d really like that.

CrypticCoffee,

github.com/FossifyOrg/Keyboard It’s there in the org, not sure when it gets released to F-droid, but I think they’re just going 1 by 1, so hopefully shouldn’t be long.

THE_ANON,

Meanwhile use florisboard it’s really good

highfiveconnoisseur, in In case you missed it: Fossify (A fork of Simple Mobile Tools)

This is great. Thank you for sharing

flora_explora, (edited ) in In case you missed it: Fossify (A fork of Simple Mobile Tools)

Hm, I cannot find it on fdroid. Do I have to wait a bit or what do I do?

muhyb,

You can add IzzyOnDroid repo on F-Droid or use Droid-ify entirely for out-of-box solution.

flora_explora,

Oh nice! Really useful, thanks a lot :)

muhyb,

No problem! :)

CrypticCoffee,

Which one? I saw calendar yesterday.

If you don’t mind paying to use a search engine, Kagi is actually pretty good. Not as good as Google was 20 years ago, but significantly better than any other search engine I can find today.

Good thing they offer free trial (100 searches), so anyone can try before purchasing a plan

@18107 @ylai

BotCheese,

i dont use Kagi but i know people were upset about their deal with brave. after hearing about the it the devs went with it anyways

What hasn’t gotten worse with Google? I have been slowly leaving Google and now it’s just YouTube and Google maps. Youtube I am not overly worried about as I can still block all the commercials.

technom, in Researchers confirm what we already knew: Google results really are getting worse

Why just Google? Search has gone into the gutter across the board. Certain search constraints like excluding keywords or sites no longer work. Amazon doesn’t even care what you type in - they just show you what they want you to buy.

This is about degoogling, so, why are you even bringing that up here? Isn’t the whole point of degoogling to NOT use Google crap?

ylai,

See to the right:

Here you may post anything related to DeGoogling, why we should do it or good software alternatives!

FriendBesto, in In case you missed it: Fossify (A fork of Simple Mobile Tools)

I have been using them and Gallery was a bit buggy at the beginning, so that is the only one I have not switched yet but otherwise, they are all working as expected. I expect to fully switch shortly.

CrypticCoffee,

What are you using for gallery? Do you have something that easily moves stuff between folders etc.?

@ylai so now they have to state clearly that they still engage in

You can debloat it if your device is rooted but keep in mind that if you uninstall a core app that is tied to the system you will brick your device.

universal debloater is with adb

I forget this tool. You’re right

Didn’t work quite well for me

BlanK0, (edited ) in degoogle Moto G71

I would first approach this problem by first trying to convert as many apps that you have into a Foss alternative ( you could use this site to find the alternatives: alternativeto.net).

Then if I was comfortable enough I would later on try flashing a custom rom like lineageOS (I would recommend doing this with a second phone if you have one, like a older phone to get used to the OS since it is a bit different and if something happens you have the original phone as a backup).

Then I guess the final step would be to isolate your work apps that aren’t Foss like WhatsApp into a separate environment with an app like shelter.

Edit: Also try to not rely on google services as much as possible by using alternatives like protonmail/tutamail for email and other search engines like startpage, duckduckgo and searX (or searXNG, I do prefer more this one) (searX/XNG instances being the best search engines out there)

TWeaK, in Fossify Contacts and Fossify SMS Messenger (Fossify is a fork of Simple Mobile Tools) are now available, joining Fossify's existing suite of Gallery, File Manager, Phone, and Calendar apps.

If the phone app doesn’t have call recording, I’m not interested. SimpleMobileTools were nice, I’m glad that they’re still continuing on in spirit through a fork, but there are plenty of FOSS apps to choose from - pick the ones you like most.

Saying that though I understand the appeal of having a set of apps that look the same.
