If the phone app doesn’t have call recording, I’m not interested. SimpleMobileTools were nice, I’m glad that they’re still continuing on in spirit through a fork, but there are plenty of FOSS apps to choose from - pick the ones you like most.
Saying that though I understand the appeal of having a set of apps that look the same.
I mean, if it’s a one time payment then he has no reasons to regret the decision even if the users dropped off. On the other hand, if he was expecting a recurring royalty from the buyer, then he didn’t think it through.
PS: I’m not justifying his actions in any manner. If a sale without a heads up is deceptive, his last reply was outright indignation. I’m just trying to understand whether he actually regretted it or not.
It is a great device though. Requiring a Google account to initially setup the device is one of my two only complaints, the other being the lack of a HDMI 2.1 interface.
Was a while since to tried to do it by removing. but removing stuff is not as good as starting without them. Easiest way is to flash a custom ROM. Then you can add play compatibility with MicroG or playservices isolated by apps or GOS ( if you have the right phone that’s it).
You don’t need root to run a custom ROM or run MicroG. You might need to root to flash everything depending on your phone , but no need to re enable it afterwards.
The creator of the Simple apps sold them to an advertising company, which has since added trackers into the apps. The fossify project is forking all of them to keep them tracker free and to continue development.
I have been using them and Gallery was a bit buggy at the beginning, so that is the only one I have not switched yet but otherwise, they are all working as expected. I expect to fully switch shortly.
