SkepticalButOpenMinded, in Just Buy Everyone a Car

This is a great take down of an idea so stupid that I didn’t realize people were pushing for it. The stupid idea being replacing fixed route public transportation with government subsidized on demand rideshare.

FarceOfWill, in Tire Dust Makes Up the Majority of Ocean Microplastics, Study Finds

It wasn’t the plastic straws after all?
I’m shocked, shocked.

“Small price to pay for the freedom to travel”

-An actual thing that’s been said to me before when I brought up other environmental issues

Lianodel, in The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, everyone 🤦

New national parking platform

…if that means what I think it means, it’s probably the worst of the lot.

Take it from an American: mandatory minimum parking will absolutely ruin your towns and cities.

PonyOfWar, in Was cyberpunk 2077 ruined by carbrain?

The whole point of Cyberpunk’s setting is that it’s a capitalist hellscape. The corpos don’t care about the environment or setting up a nice public transport network. And of course there is also the gameplay perspective, riding a train in a videogame gets very boring very quickly.

Blackmist, in The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, everyone 🤦

Poor motorists having only like 99% of infrastructure reserved for them.

So victimised right now.

Let’s take away railway sleepers so they can drive on the tracks.

I really wish I could use those roads for transport using a bicycle. I just don’t feel like being passed by a truck moving at 80km/h just a few centimeters away in a curve with bad visibility, potentially even with fog in the morning.

You can make multiple extra lanes for cars, but not a single lane for bicycles?

boogetyboo, in flipping off drivers for the bus driver.
@boogetyboo@aussie.zone avatar

I’m a tiny woman who isn’t starting road rage, so what I do is just make the other person concerned. I’ve done this as a pedestrian and a driver.

It’s really easy, as a pedestrian walking past, pause slightly and drop your eyes to their front grill, tilt your head slightly and grimace. If in the car, point and sit up in your seat like you’re trying to get a better view of their car and do the same face. Look alarmed even.

I’ve seen multiple drivers pull over to check out their cars. At the very least it makes them take time out of their day for no reason - and inconveniencing dickheads is always fun - but given we’re in Australia, their imagination can take them to all kinds of places. What did she see? Is it still there? Is it in my car now???

ntzm, in It's time to replace urban delivery vans

Erm how am I meant to take my grandma to hospital and also drop off three fridges and my kids to school and then an entire building’s worth of bricks? Therefore cargo bikes will never work in any situation. I am very smart.

Vote for right wingers and this is what you get.

FunderPants, in You’ve heard of bike gutters, get ready for people gutters!

SUV, Truck, SUV, SUV, SUV, SUV, sedan, SUV, SUV, SUV, SUV.

The culture problem around big vehicles we’ve created with bad regulation and aggressive marketing is depressing.

pgetsos, in Shouldn't we be switching buses with light railway?
@pgetsos@kbin.social avatar

Light rail/trams are better especially for avenues etc. But busses are more flexible, and you usually need a combination of both for best results

bob_lemon, in China's new high-speed train just set a new record as the world’s fastest — and it could travel faster than an airplane

On a recent test run, the train sprinted to record-breaking speeds of 281 miles per hour, making it the fastest train in the world.

That’s not even close to the current record, which is 375 mph: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Railway_speed_record

Once completed, engineers hope the maglev will reach 621 mph

Yeah, that’s a big “if” right there.

I’m all for high speed rail and I hope they succeed, but this article is terrible.

cron, in 4chan gets it

After widening was completed in 2008, a portion of the highway west of Houston is now also believed to be the widest in the world, at 26 lanes when including feeders. - (Wikipedia)

WTF

Yerbouti, in I laugh at the Ford every time I see it. Today i got at chance to park next to it and the the size difference is comically large.

The F150 was the most sold car in the US last year. I’ve never seen so much of those in Montreal CA in over 20 years. We.are.doomed.
