I really wish I could use those roads for transport using a bicycle. I just don’t feel like being passed by a truck moving at 80km/h just a few centimeters away in a curve with bad visibility, potentially even with fog in the morning.

You can make multiple extra lanes for cars, but not a single lane for bicycles?

If the children were driving their own SUVs this wouldn’t be a problem.

Or we could, you know, follow previously established methods of building vehicles that make pedestrian death and dismemberment less likely.

No, no, no. Americans need them this way apparently for some inexplicable fucking reason.

So instead of just designing them with pedestrian safety in mind to begin with, we are just gonna slap on more fucking band-aids (like cameras) that do fuck-all.

@boogetyboo@aussie.zone avatar

I’m a tiny woman who isn’t starting road rage, so what I do is just make the other person concerned. I’ve done this as a pedestrian and a driver.

It’s really easy, as a pedestrian walking past, pause slightly and drop your eyes to their front grill, tilt your head slightly and grimace. If in the car, point and sit up in your seat like you’re trying to get a better view of their car and do the same face. Look alarmed even.

I’ve seen multiple drivers pull over to check out their cars. At the very least it makes them take time out of their day for no reason - and inconveniencing dickheads is always fun - but given we’re in Australia, their imagination can take them to all kinds of places. What did she see? Is it still there? Is it in my car now???

ntzm, in It's time to replace urban delivery vans

Erm how am I meant to take my grandma to hospital and also drop off three fridges and my kids to school and then an entire building’s worth of bricks? Therefore cargo bikes will never work in any situation. I am very smart.

Showroom7561, in 85% Of Car Drivers Break 20mph Speed Limits, Reveals U.K.’s Department For Transport

I believe it 100%.

I started riding with a Garmin bike radar and installed an app that tells me exactly how fast a car is going when it passes, and the majority are over the speed limit.

Just the other day, in a 60 km/h zone, I clocked two cars going 125 km/h.

If I thought for a second that police would charge these drivers using photo/video evidence, I’d fork over the $500 to get the radar with a camera built-in and report each and every speeding driver that passes me.

In Denmark we have the lovely new law that if you drive more than 100% over the speed limit and over 100 kmh or drive over 200 kmh at all or drunk driving with over 2‰ they confiscate the car and you are not getting it back at all. They confiscate the car regadles of who owns the car (with very few exceptions) and that is also if it is leased. So far since when the law started they have confiscated over 2000 cars in two years. It’s my favourite law of all laws right now. The fine for driving crazy is also nicely proportional to your income and it removes the car so the person cannot just drive without license afterwards.

GBU_28,

I can’t get behind property seizure without compensation, but I can understand everything else.

Even if they said “you can’t have this car any more, but can sell it from our facility” that’d be better I think

Light rail/trams are better especially for avenues etc. But busses are more flexible, and you usually need a combination of both for best results

bob_lemon, in China's new high-speed train just set a new record as the world’s fastest — and it could travel faster than an airplane

On a recent test run, the train sprinted to record-breaking speeds of 281 miles per hour, making it the fastest train in the world.

That’s not even close to the current record, which is 375 mph: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Railway_speed_record

Once completed, engineers hope the maglev will reach 621 mph

Yeah, that’s a big “if” right there.

I’m all for high speed rail and I hope they succeed, but this article is terrible.
