It’s a paid pattern or is share it but it’s say over half of the stitches are not adjacent to the same color. I didn’t realize how many different shades is one tone is blue there is. It did make it easier to be lazy when I would forget to do a stitch though since they all blend well.
As someone who’s dabbled in pixel art, I can’t help thinking that it should be possible to reduce the number of colours and stray singleton stitches in that one without degrading the image by much, if at all. It would be a bear to get 100% right according to the pattern. Nice job!
Hah, that’s my approach with my current full coverage too. Oh, I made a small mistake or left an empty spot? These colours are all so similar I’ll just fill it with whatever 🤷♀️
It’s a great effect in this piece though, hopefully worth fiddling with all those blues!
If it’s available to you try to use DMC branded floss. I normally don’t care about brands, but when I started stitching last year the first thing I did was buy a big multi pack of generic floss that caused me to get quickly get very frustrated lol! The DMC stuff glides better and doesn’t fluff up so much
I’m willing to do it but only if I can have some kind of extra power, like invisibility or flight or my floss never knotting. You know, something impossible.
However, BIG caveat. I’m doing it all in tent stitch (half stitches), which I did a test square of before starting to make sure the coverage was good. Obviously the main difference is stitching over 1 you end up with a finished piece half the size of what the pattern probably says it should be, but as a bonus you get to use (and therefore buy) less floss. So swings and roundabouts!
I think 2 over 1 full cross stitch would’ve been a bit much for this fabric, I’d probably have tried swatching 1 over 1 to see what that looked like. But honestly just do whatever you want, no stitching police are gonna come knocking at the door :D
Personally I really love the look of stitching over 2 on evenweave because the relatively chonky stitches contrast with the finer fabric. But ymmv!
I’m quickly realizing that 2 over 1 probably would have looked fine, but I’m just going to forge ahead at this point because I’m having fun with it and I like the way it looks lol. If I decide to do 1 over 1 again I will probably choose a pattern with less complicated lettering! I’m having to do parts of these letters one tiny stitch at a time lol!
I definitely had to crank up my light as bright as it would go lol! I may make another post soon about everything I’ve had to do differently in case anyone else wants to try this who hasn’t before. It has definitely been a learning experience!
I sent them to my local craft store. They’re a small local business, ran by a retired couple, that sells art and stitching supplies. The husband makes custom frames while the wife does the consultations and sales.
Oh wow! Those nice frames really put both pieces over the top! I especially like how the garden of curiosities looks! This makes me think I should definitely look for something better than the cheap frames from the craft store that I usually get lol
