I really like Debian I was using Arch before, but Debian looks better to me

billwashere, in TIL

In my freshman year of computer science our main computer lab was filled with Sage IV machines. Basically a Motorola 68k series with 4 or 5 serial terminals. Most people were writing Pascal code or using a simple word processor. But god forbid you were on there with someone taking assembly language. Because they could write really stupid code with super tight loops that never allowed any other code to run, and the only thing you could do was reboot. So if you hadn’t saved your code you were fucked.

So I never purposely wrote really bad code that would overwrite unprotected shared memory with random quotes from Marvin from HHGTG to mess with other people. I would never do that. That would have been unethical and shit… 🤔

I did learn a lot of basic hardware and operating systems though so there’s that.

warmaster, in /etc/fstab entry for Synology NAS

Filesharing drove me insane.

I ended up ripping the HDDs and putting them on my server, then proceeded to share the drives as normal. My docker containers now use them perfectly fine. IDK wtf Synology is doing but it’s cumbersome AF.

after modifying /etc/fstab you’d have to manually run sudo mount -a for the settings to take effect.

Got an E14, easiest laptop to open ever (at least compared to the HPs and Toshibas I had the pleasure to own)

This is why I recommend Chrome OS /s

gayhitler420, in A response to the "Boycott Wayland" article

I didn’t read any of that but Wayland doesn’t work with xscreensaver so I’m not gonna switch to it.

MiddledAgedGuy,

Just :s/x/w/g on every bit of source code and recompile wscreensaver.

gayhitler420,

Lol at how controversial that comment was.

Weird shot at the Arch wiki, which is truly great. I turn to it regularly despite not using Arch.

wmassingham, in /etc/fstab entry for Synology NAS

What do you mean “doesn’t work”? Is there some error message in the log (dmesg, /var/log/messages, on the console, whatever raspbian uses)?

WitchHazel, in Just install EndeavorOS lol

I’m kinda weird for this one. I started with arch a long time ago, and ended up distrohopping because I borked my install. Everything else had problems for me eventually, including Ubuntu and Debian. At this stage, if you can figure out iwctl you’re good to go. This enables me to have a system up and running quickly in which I feel I have no restrictions on my abilities as a developer.

archinstall will do proprietary drivers for you, works great for me.

SamsonSeinfelder, in Just install EndeavorOS lol

Isn’t archwiki one of the most comprehended wikis for Linux distros out there? If anything, the arch-wiki (to me) has often too many answers for the same problem than the other way around.

drkt, in Just install EndeavorOS lol

My first ever distro was Arch, over a decade ago.

I just consider it my trial by fire, everything has been smooth sailing since because anything else is easier!

EatYouWell, (edited ) in /etc/fstab entry for Synology NAS

This is what my fstab entry looks like.

synas.com:/volume1/Music /mnt/music nfs nofail,noauto,x-systemd.automount

If that works, but you want to figure out the root cause, let me know and we can get it figured out.

I believe there is a setting under the windows settings. If not you should be able to set a custom shortcut
